Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

If Disneyland does decide to open is some fashion like Knotts without the rides, I hope it does not re-start the clock on APs.
It likely won’t because the parks aren’t “open” but AP’s would have to purchase whatever admission is charged. Guess it is my bad Disney fan showing but I don’t understand the urge to have the gates open for a food festival.

Desire for Disney atmosphere + desperation for something to do. Life has been closed for almost 6 months.

I get the something to do. I haven’t gone any where for fun expect for a disappointing trip to the coast in May since early March. But I’m just not sure the Disney atmosphere will be the same. A lot of what makes the atmosphere is the energy and motion of the rides. Fantasyland without Dumbo flying, the carousel spinning just won’t feel the same. People have asked me what I like so much about Disneyland and I tell them just the feeling of being there. So that Disney atmosphere is a big part of why I do enjoy Disneyland.

Life has certainly changed yes but I wouldn’t go so far to say life has closed for six months.

Oh it’s been closed for 6 months. As a parent to two young children who can’t even play on the playground, life as we knew it is closed. And it sucks.

We’d go to a festival at Disney depending on cost. Especially if they opened up the hotels. We’d do a little staycation.

We’d go to a festival if they were as strict with their social distancing guidelines as they’ve been with Downtown Disney.

I really am surprised they haven’t opened up anything, or even put some popcorn and churro carts down at the end of DTD or... anything. Seems like some missed opportunities.

I am sure it is much harder on you with young children than it is for me, a single adult. I don't understand why playgrounds are still closed when it has been shown that the chance of getting it from surfaces is very low.

Physical distancing is hard. It takes a bit of energy to keep at it in public spaces and in motion. I'm sure if we all turned on Bluetooth proximity and had an app to alert/buzz/shock ;) compliance would be higher --- but, nope. Would love to see that update it Disney app!

My guess on why they haven't done that is licensing issues. They can't just roll carts out to DtD. They need to obtain the proper permits/licenses to sell food in the DtD district, as it is permitted separately from the parks. Vendors, including Disney, need to have proper permits to operate food sales at DTD. Maybe it's not worth the effort.

Could also be the vendor/tenant agreements in place don’t allow Disney to do that.

Yep. I mean, I imagine Wetzels and California Churro would NOT be pleased if Disney brought out Churro and Mickey Pretzel carts.
I know when my ex-employer leased a space in a shopping center part of the lease was a clause that no other business of the same type would be allowed during the life of our lease. I am sure the tenants in DTD have the same clause in their leases.

Right? It’s like we’ve all been in jail... “for a crime we did not commit.” Sounds like the premise for a late ‘70s TV show.
I think we need our own theme song... "Downtown Disney Desperados," hungry for the Magic, locked down for a crime they did not commit -- Watch them wear their masks for a chance to hear the music, smell the churros, almost touch the gates... Stay tuned for next week's adventure!!

💯 would watch. Also 💯 would apply for a chance to be in this show.

Yeah, I’m finally at this point as well. I want to get this years plans and travel budgets finalized so I know what I can try to do next year, even if that means more cancellations.

I hear ya. I keep spending this year’s vacation money on new furniture (anyone else hating their house lately? haha!)- I’m having a hard time following my usual vacay budget with these unknowns. Even though most of our trip was paid for but still...
