Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

It's been a few days since I looked at the report on the study, but if I remember correctly they looked at aerosol spread of singers with masks on and off. So Disney could calculate the safety based on the information about singers without masks. That doesn't help much if you are in an Indy car with people who remove their mask, since you're close to them, but it does if they limit cars to one party/social group.
What about on slow moving rides like IASW or POTC? Even if they limit it to one family/group per boat, if the boat ahead of you contained non-mask wearing singers, would you feel safe for the entire ride? Given some of the traffic jams that can happen on those rides, I don't know if I would.

Has there been any updates on the “meeting” from this afternoon?
I’m not expecting to hear anything official. Theme Parks are still absent from the new reopening timelines. My guess is they will fall into Orange based on where they were likely to reopening in July on the old system. But given that Newsom and the state are being more cautious (as they should have all along) it may be that they don’t reopen until Yellow. We have a long road ahead. And we the public have the power to speed things up (to a degree) by the actions we take today. Wear a mask, stay distanced, avoid gatherings, etc.

The tricky part of theme parks as Newsom mentioned is that there's a lot of variability to them. Large differences in Disneyland to Beaumont Park to Bayside Aquarium to Great America.

Just within Disneyland - crowd gathering - Hyperion theatre vs fireworks on mainstreet vs parade crowds vs queues POTC vs queues Small world. vs enclosed submarine ride vs incredicoaster. -- SO many variables; hence the delay.

KIS for DLR - give us a festival for now --- please! :) Off to Seaworld today if son is up to it.

That’s the sort of scenario everyone needs to all themselves because once you’re in it you’re stuck.

Personally I’m fine with it because
1) the odds are incredibly low a group will take all their masks off and bust a tune out of boredom because a ride is backed up (no JH/HS kids groups anymore)
—> and they will be seen on camera and they will get a chat from security after as that is such a big violation
2) These ride areas are large and the air is well circulated

Imho... in retrospect the gov threw the media a bone after dropping the little note that discussions on amusement parks had actually been set aside. So they haven’t even been talking recently. Instead there was a meeting this afternoon after the published guidelines locked down theme parks to the umpteenth degree with the caveat they haven’t actually decided anything yet. Heckuva “welcome back to the table”...

Link to the video of the question for anyone who hasn’t seen it.

I’m still interested to know if Disney or other theme parks come together and sue or something to get guidance. It’s one thing to not allow them to reopen at the current stage, but they were technically supposed to get guidance to reopen on July 4. It’s almost September and nothing. At least if they had the guidance now, they could make sure all of their plans matched what the state wants.

IDK about suing, that wouldn't look very good PR-wise. Plus I'm sure the various corporations (Dis, 6 Flags, Universal, et al) are in constant communication with whoever their State liaison is and are being kept 'in the loop'.

Part of the problem is that scientific knowledge of the virus is still developing and what was safe behavior yesterday isn't necessarily safe behavior today so parameters for reopening change. Plus there's a wide variety of theme/amusement parks and each one will have to have its requirements done separately.

I think they (and we) will just have to wait and be patient.

The reset yesterday to color tiers probably would have reset those July recs too -- who knows. Doesn't matter - no guidance -- so DLR has a choice to either wait and work with admin and stay closed until then; or work with admin AND push forward with a festival plan.

It's been over a month with Knott's with them expanding to full park after success, yet DLR --- nada. Very weird world with Knott's leading and Disney sitting around.

Ok maybe not sue, more like pressure to get an answer?

I went to the knotts event last night! I was telling my friend I hope Disney ends up doing something like this. Felt very safe. Plenty of space to social distance. Staff was great at cleaning.

Oh I'm sure that's happening, probably at least since the FLA parks have opened.

But the theme park guys (TPG) have to be a bit balanced between putting on pressure and 'ticking TPTB off' with constant bombardment. They aren't going to want a breakdown in their 'lines of communication'. I'm sure the TPG are pretty savvy and know just when to jump and when to sit back. I think Disney already has its plan in order (after consulting public health experts & liability lawyers of their own) and are probably using the 'gentle art of persuasion' to get the State to come around.

Honestly, I think that is what these conversations are about. Talks between the two groups on what is or isn't feasible. This is what will come into play with where they place theme parks in the reopening scheme.

If they follow previous guidance's they won't release the guidance publicly until a week before they are scheduled to open.

Leaders in San Diego county held a press conference yesterday at Legoland, basically begging the state to allow them to open, citing the safety measures they have implemented successfully at their parks around the world. It was happening yesterday afternoon. Seems maybe they didn't get a seat at the table at whatever meeting was happening yesterday. They reiterated that their safety protocols go above and beyond what the state has indicated is required for other businesses reopening.

Also, re: indoor rides... I just saw today that my local Target put up several big air filter units; not sure how much they do, but it could, if they work, add yet another layer of safety. I‘m with theluckyrabbit on mask compliance on rides being the most problematic issue. Unfortunately, there are a lot of thoughtless, careless people out there, who are only willing to act responsibly when they’re being watched...

Our school district has placed air purifier units in every classroom. I know they work well in small spaces, but not sure how well they work in large, cavernous buildings like indoor DL rides which are usually several different rooms. I imagine these rides already have industrial strength air filtration systems in place. But maybe DL could use them in stores and smaller indoor spaces?

i finally asked my sister about staying with the kids 9/18-20 since it’s still there and she can’t do it. Wahhhhhhh! So now our choices are bring them, but my 8 year old is only supposed to miss dance if her leg falls off and the sutures are still wet and both kids have a swim practice or two. Or maybe my other sister can stay with them, but she’s got three kids of her own. So.... after all this waiting and waiting.... we may still cancel if they are still waiving DVC holding rules.
