Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Geez. I am just upset because I can't go on a planned Disney vacation. I can't imagine how all of you people who live in this state feel. Unless you are willing to lock people in their homes and never let them go outside, you are going to have positive cases. Just wow :(

Preach it sister. We are out of here November 30. Going back to Texas. I’m super sad because after the unbelievable news today, we won’t be able to get in one last trip to Disneyland, but we went twice a month minimum each month we lived here right up until the pandemic hit. So I’m trying to be grateful for that. I cannot understand how anyone who lives here thinks what the governor is doing is ok. It’s just shocking.

If I'm Disneyland my argument for this afternoons meeting is, In "Purple areas" the following businesses are open:
  • Outdoor Aquariums
  • Cardrooms
  • Family entertainment centers (Outdoor only kart racing, mini-golf, Batting cages)
  • Hair Salons (Indoors with modifications)
  • Most stores (Home furnishing, florist, book as long as it is 25% capacity)
  • Movie theaters
  • Museums (outdoors)
  • Shopping Malls (indoor 25% capacity)
  • Zoos
I feel like Disneyland as long as they stay at 20 -25% capacity can be just as safe (or safer) then all those locations.

If Disney doesn't get movement this afternoon - they will do a Knott's/Seaworld style festival probably. With the new 21 day pauses between tiers, looking at least 2 months for getting to where they need to be -- unless DLR gets special circs.

Someone mentioned this a few pages back, doubt they get a good answer.

Yeah, I somehow missed a whole page of the thread. My bad.

BUT the governor also said the website wasn't quite 100% ready to go live yet, so maybe we can take the "theme parks can't open until yellow" with a grain of salt.

To be fair, most of the gudiance and the color system is for INDOOR places. Theme Parks may be categorized differently.

I don't even live there and I don't think it is ok. If I can't go on my vacation, who cares? I will keep pushing back the dates until DL reopens or I'll get my money back.

I understand that COVID is a real threat and I do everything I can to try and stay safe and keep the people around me safe. People's jobs and livelihoods are on the line. Businesses can, and should be able to, reopen with proper guidelines in place. Will changes have to be made from business to business to allow that to happen? Absolutely.

My 'bet' is he'll formalize what's been going on;

Widespread/Substantial: Outside - okay. No rides. Strict mask policy in place and enforcement.
Moderate - Inside 25% given all capacities rides at 50% capacity
Minimal - Inside 50-75% with size limit of xxx - Rides at 75% capacity

Just spit balling, but gives him a roadmap for this afternoon :)

Disney specific mentioned: 1253 - theme parks - 'working with them' 'dynamic conversation' 'separate conversion' easier to have with larger ones. Afternoon meeting on this 'actively'
Well, wasn't Disney originally exempt? I personally think it's kind of interesting that they are having a meeting this afternoon just with them. I am one of those half glass full kind of gals. They could have said something like all theme parks have to abide by the color code thing like everyone else. I missed the meeting....did he say they had to? The powers at be no full well that thousands of people that work at the parks (along with other businesses) need to work. If Disneyland doesn't get up and running soon to a certain extent Anaheim will could be in serious financial trouble. Does Newsom really want to be the Gov. that in some form single handedly brought about there demise? I'm still hopeful that something amazing could happen. Businesses will only take so much for so long.

This is what I keep thinking in my head, but each update seems to prove otherwise. Who knows...

This! There’s a separate meeting for a reason w/ theme parks. Now to what extent their guidelines will differ is what I’m questioning. They will be different- but will they really be THAT much different?🤔

Disneyland was originally exempt, but honestly I think they knew a closure would be forthcoming by the state, so they closed voluntary to make it look like it was there choice and to get goodwill with both the Governor and local people. At the time, it showed they cared for the health and safety of their employees (especially those that are older and working at Disneyland in retirement).

I'm curious how accurate the tiers are. My county (El Dorado) is listed in the new database as Substantial, however when I click on the details for the county the metrics should put it in the Moderate tier. And that is using data directly from the state's website. We've had 2 deaths in the entire county during all this. The thought of going backwards is not appealing.

We were supposed to be in DL in June for my daughter's 20th birthday and to celebrate my son's high school graduation and Eagle Scout award. That got pushed to August. Now I'm hoping for next June. Daughter's 21st in DL sounds like fun to her. I do have a couple of days booked at BWPPI for January but I'm not holding my breath and I'm not telling them. Both of them have had so many things cancelled the past 6 months I can't bear to give them false hope again. Sigh.

Now that I read through it some more, I think DL will be open when Orange County goes to red (2 weeks meeting criteria? 3 weeks? I think 2 - it wasn't clear to me since they were off the list this morning). I am basing that on one thing only; Movie theaters. If you look at a Red county (Nevada for example), they are allowed to open indoor movie theaters at 25% capacity. having been to WDW, that is the capacity of the theaters there. Every other row was filled, every other block of 4 seats was allowed to be filled. That is what Disney is doing - no reason why they couldn't do that in DL if that's the criteria. Is there any other activity in DL that is riskier than the theaters? I don't think so.

It’s very upsetting. Just from a mental health stand point. We have been stuck in the house not being able to do a whole lot. Our kids can’t even go outside and play right now because the smoke is so bad. It’s really taking a toll at our house. I feel like this virus isn’t going away anytime soon. Are we all supposed to do nothing until it goes away? We are worried about our jobs too. This is very depressing news.
I am with you, Crystal. You must live in Northern California as well. This is extremely depressing news to me. I am overly cautious by nature--I was literally wearing a mask when flying in February--and we've been pretty much SIP for almost 6 months, but this seems beyond overzealous. There needs to be a balance between re-opening (jobs and getting our kids back in school) and reasonable restrictions to control the virus. This is not balanced or reasonable IMO. The goal with shutdowns was to prevent the surge, to get our ducks in a row, etc., but it's almost as if he's made it about eradicating the virus. It will be interesting to see how he replies to the Supreme Court today about school re-openings. This is horrible news IMO.
