Summer at Disneyland: Star Tours 2.0, Little Mermaid ride and Mickey's Soundsational Parade

It seems odd that the biggest Disneyland news this week came out of a Walt Disney World press release, but we now have confirmation from Disney that the reopening of Star Tours, the opening of the new The Little Mermaid – Ariel's Undersea Adventure attraction, and the debut of Mickey's Soundsational Parade all take place this summer, rather than the spring dates many fans were hoping for. Star Tours 2.0 is set to debut May 20 at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida as part of the just-announced Star Tours Weekends, but Disney says the West Coast version won't reopen until an unspecified date in June.

The press release also lists The Little Mermaid ride and Disneyland's new parade as part of Disneyland's summer line-up, though no specific dates were included. It's possible that Disney will time the three openings together as part of a major summer marketing campaign, like the Summer Nighttastic promotion from 2009 and last year's debut of the World of Color show.

For those curious about the new Star Tours plot and characters, Tom Fitzgerald, Executive VP & Senior Creative Executive, Walt Disney Imagineering posted about the "stars of Star Tours" last week on the Disney Parks Blog (link). In addition to the new Star Tours Pilot Ace (AC-38) and Spokesbot Aly San San introduced last September, Fitzgerald says Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Master Yoda, Admiral Ackbar, Princess Leia and Chewbacca are set to all appear. Of course, since the new ride is said to have multiple possible endings, it is still unknown if every character will appear in every variation.

Looks like we will have to wait until "summer" for all the new stuff to happen. Usually that is second week of June or later. So sad. Just once I would like to see them open the new stuff up in the early spring.

This is why we are going in the fall this year we were too afraid to book a summer trip and have them "bump" rides later & later like what happened with Murphy the dragon want to make sure the new rides are done and some of the crowds had a chance to disperse a bit/

Boo, that's sort of sad. I was hoping to ride on The Little Mermaid on my graduation trip this may. Oh well, maybe there will be AP previews by then?

Other than being stuck into certain times we are allowed to take vacation, we do late summer at DLR just some these reasons. We did see Murphy last year prior to him breaking. But no matter when they open, the rides will be jammed just like Lamo was when it opened.
