Ok so this may be a redundant question. A friend was telling me that there were photographers around the park that offer to take your picture. You can get the card and they will put the pictures on there of all the different photographers. She also told me that the CD was yours to buy at the end of the trip and it was one price for the CD no matter how many pictures were on it.

Is this true?
Are the pictures Copyright released so I could print them on my own?
How does this work?
Is it worth it?

I appreciate your expert opinions.

Yes you are talking about PhotoPass. It is a great program, and there are lots of photo ops around the park where your pic can be taken. The neat thing is when they add in a few effects as well. The images are yours on a cd, and you can print them, save them to your pc or a flash drive, ect. I think it is worth it, and on our anniversary trip, it was nice to not have to worry about my camera, and we didn't have to try to find someone to take our picture as a couple. We will be using it on our upcoming trip so that all of us can be in some quality pictures together as a group. :goodvibes

This is completely true. It costs $59.99 for the CD. You get a card (like a giftcard) that has a barcode on it. When you see a photopass photographer (decked out in vests - once you know what to look for they are easy to spot) you hand him or her your card and they take your photo and it goes on your card. This is great at character greetings because you can focus on your kids' experience and not getting great shots. Once home you go to the photopass website and input your card number(s). Then you can crop and add text or graphics to the photos if you want. The neat thing is you can add something to a photo and it will still allow you to keep the original. Then you get a CD of all your original and edited photos.

One tip -- if possible write down your photopass card number when you get it just in case you lose the card. It is not matched to you personally so they can't "look up" your photos in any way except that card number.

Make sure you order buy the CD after you get home on their website. If you buy it while at the park you won't get any enhancements. However, if you do it online you can enhance each picture as many times as you want. The CD will still only cost $59.95

You'll have 30 days from the date your first picture is taken to upload it online and an additional 30 days from your first upload date to order the CD.

I've done this many times and it's a great idea. I've been lucky enough to share the experience with friends and therefore reduce the cost.:goodvibes I've even been able to get WDW and DLR pix on the same CD order.

When you are in the parks keep you eye out for the PP photogs. There's a thread somewhere on here that list their locations. Tell the photog that you are buying the CD and that they can take as many pix as they want. Some of them will only take 3, but the better ones will do more. Ask them if they take any special shots.

Here's a few of mine.

Have fun!

Oh, and instead of writing down my PP number, I take a picture of the back (with the numbers) with my cell phone or digital cam. Also, if you take a sharpie along write your name, or itials, on the card to make sure you get yours back. I actually put my phone number on, just in case I lose it.

I never knew about this, sorry to hijack your thread, but where do you pick up the cards and do you pay after the trip, after I see/edit the pictures?

This is exactly what I was looking for. See I knew I was coming to the right place.

The photographers have the cards. You pay after your trip, after you see and edit the pictures. If you purchase the photos taken at the character meals, they include a code to add to your photopass account and you can get those on your CD as well. But you have to purchase the photos at the meal to get the code.

So to start the first time you approach a CM photographer and ask them for the card??

perfect, thanks. I just didn't want to hand over 60 dollars in advance in case I didn't end up liking or using it enough, but we are going for 4 days so this is perfect. :cool1:

You can have as many cards as you want. If members of your group split off they can have their own cards.

Check out this thread for some great ideas

If you kids will be doing Jedi Training there are 2 photogs there. They'll take at least 3 of your child fighting either Darth or Dark Maul as well as group shots.

Go to the Photopass store on Main Street a few hours after the show and tell them the show time. They can add your kid's pix to your card. This can be done up to 30 days after the show.

Also you can check out our photos at the stores in DL or DCA to see how they came out. This won't start the 30 day editing window. :goodvibes

Don't overlook the magic shots

and get pictures taken around DCA where the changes will be make (entrance, sun plaza, etc.) Once they tear these down they'll be gone forever.

Keep your eye out for this photographer. He's the best!

Won photographer of the year last year out of all the Disney Parks!

Any more questions, just ask.:goodvibes

Oh, and one last thing, even if you won't be buying the PP pix the photographers will gladly take pictures of you with your own camera. ;) You won't get the enhancements or magical shots but you'll still get group shots will all of you in them. If you're like me, you're the one taking the photos so you aren't in many of them. This solves that problem.

...I've even been able to get WDW and DLR pix on the same CD order.
...

Hi hi, to do this do you have to go to both parks within a certain amt of time?
Cuz we'll be hitting both parks in a span of 5 months. I'm hoping to be able to do this...
TY!

The timeframe is that you have to claim your PP pictures by entering the card onto your account within 30 days of the first picture. And then you have 30 days after that to make your edits and order the CD or prints or coffee cups, etc.

So if you go to DLR and WDW completely inside of that total 60 days you can get just the one CD. But no longer.

About the copyright release. YES you get that. Last time I bought the CD we got a nice pretty paper copy of it in the case, and it's also on the disc. And that makes almost every place happy. However! There are some places that get really twitchy about it and cannot be forced to understand that the release is a proper release. Most often I've heard of this happening at WalMart photo places...one WM up in Edmonton wouldn't even let a woman I know buy her baby announcements, because they said they were done by a professional...yeah, HER. She was a wedding planner, amateur photog, and did great things with editing software. She had it all on the original card, and showed them everything, but they would not let her buy her prints and nearly kept her memory card! Some Costcos have been weird, I've read, about getting 8x10s printed b/c they say there is something weird about the size.

So just know that the release is totally on the up and up, but some places just don't believe it for some reason. If you run across a place like that, just take your stuff and go elsewhere, as it doesn't seem worth the battle, from what I've read.

I personally haven't had any problems getting my wedding pictures printed from shutterfly or mpix, even though they are obviously professional. I have the DVDs of the pix and the release, but neither site has asked a question about it. Obviously, I recommend them. :)

Do they add the pictures from the rides? Like Splash Mountain? You know those crazy pictures that you really don't want anyone to see but you have to buy :cool1:

Sadly, those can only be added to the CD if you buy the prints. :headache: Which doesn't make 100% sense, but then again, if you DO like the picture and want to share it, buying a print doesn't give you the legal right to make copies of that print. But if you buy the print and add it to the CD, then you get the legal right to make prints of it. So it makes about 5% sense, LOL.

Even at WDW, only one ride's picture can be added to the photopass card/account without paying for the print (Test Track).

It's easier to go home and log into photopass and upload the pictures at home. There you can add fun borders and stuff and take your time with them. They will stay on your account for about 30 days. If you get the CD it will also give you a release so you can have them printed out. I had one photo natzi not want to give me the photos even with the release and had to have the manager make her give them to me.

I just tried to order the CD and it wanted to charge me $149. Did I miss something? is there some sort of code I was supposed to enter? I bought one last year but I could have sworn it was only $59? SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!!! LOL

:confused3:confused3

Here is a detailed explanation of the Photopass on AllEars website. It even tells you locations of photographers and a link to a map of where to find them.

check your prices, once you enter your code, it should say that this is from CA Disneyland resorts and it should only be $59.95. If you go to Disneyworld, then it cost $149.

good luck! have fun.

As PP said, if it's WDW it's $149, if it's DLR, it's $59.95. Do you only have DLR pix on the CD? If so, and it still says $149, call them. They should be able to take care of it.
