DH and I are planning a trip to DLP for 7-nts, followed by a 7-nt cruise on the Fantasy (we're calling it Mega Disney Vacation!!!) We're curious about other people's experience there in September. I know it's considered a lower season, which is normally a good thing on DCL or WDW, but I'm concerned about closures when we go. Thoughts? Experiences? Thanks!

Its a great time to go to DLP :) - the main closure/refurb season every year is January-March.

There are closures/refurbs all year round, but not in such large numbers in September as at the start of the year.

we have been once in sept and once in june, we loved sept so much more that our next trip in 2014 will be in sept. (to coincide with my 40th birthday) :-(

the weather was fab, the crowds were very managable and most things were open. the only closures i can rememeber were phantom manor and casey jr train and the storybook ride. we had some wonderful character interactions due to the low crowds. was a magical trip. last june was far busier and the hustle and bustle of character meet and greets was very off putting.

There is usually a few closures as mentioned but not normally the amount that is in Jan-mar. Also if you are looking at this year the 20th anniversary celebrations are extended till the end of September although Dreams is staying after

I have been several times in September and very lucky to have low crowds and nice weather

I went for my big birthday with my Pirate and another DIS member on September 15th (Saturday) last year. OMG! Crowds were like NYE style and we baked in our clothes! Weather was wonderful, crowds meant hardly any rides (we did do POTC of course though!) and it was stupidly busy. Fab time though as we sat on Main Street telling people to smile as they were in "the happiest place on Earth!" :-)
Weather wise you should be fine, and ours was only a day trip (so romantic to watch Dreams for the first time in the arms of your Capt'n - even after being awake for 24 hours with another 5 to go lol-!) But paced, you'll have a fab time :-)

OP I Just noticed you mention 7 nights at DLP ~ you wont need that long to enjoy over and over what DLP has to offer in September (Pick midweek dates though, weekends at DLP are generally stupid busy).
you could do 3 or 4 nights at DLP and the other half of your week in Paris?

That's what we're doing, we're only planning on two or three park days and spending the rest in the city and such. What were concerned about is how much might be closed. I read someone else say they went in feb and there was only a couple restaurants open with really long lines.

Thanks for all the thoughts! It never occurred to me that jan-mar would be low season, though it obviously makes sense.

Another question: check-in cc. Our res will be pre-paid using DVC, so how much to they authorize on a cc during check-in?

We went last September and it was great, nice weather and low crowds.
