Disneyland Paris Changes Coming (Rumors)

Ok so a trustworthy insider who covers all things about Disneyland Paris has came out and said Disneyland Paris has big plans concerning the future. I lost the website but will post it as soon as I find it again. He was right about the things that have happened so far so he has some credit.

Magic Kingdom

1. In 2015 Space Mountain is rumored to go down to receive some upgrades. These upgrades including new trains, lighting and effects. The ride will also return to the original version before 2005.

2. In 2015 into 2016, Thunder Mountain is said to go down for an extended overhaul. Work will include a longer train, new lighting, and an interactive queue.

3. A huge theater is planned to be built next to Its A Small World in Fantasyland.

4. Star Tours is finally upgraded to the new version.

Walt Disney Studios Paris

1. Toy Story Midway Mania is planned to go forward and be added to Toy Story Playland.

2. Rockin Roller Coaster is said to go down at some point to rework it into a Spider Man ride. The track would remain the same, but the interior décor would change a lot. This also explains the Spider Man meet and greet.

3. The giant stage show building that holds the Hollywood section at the front of the park is to be TORE down. The entrance will become a new immersive Hollywood street.

4. The Armageddon Experience is rumored to become a Fantastic Four experience.

5. Animation Courtyard as well as Pixar Place are both to receive new themeing and placemaking.


After this the plans are a little more blue sky and still in the works.

Sorian is added behind the Indiana Jones coaster to a Indiana Jones themed ride.

The Red Car Trolley is added to Walt Disney Studios.

The backlot tour is changed to a Marvel themed ride with a tour through the world of Marvel.

Lights Motor Action! becomes a Agents of Shield stunt show although this depends on the success of the show.

A small Star Wars mini land is added to Discoveryland.

These would be exciting changes and improvements. It would also be good timing ready for their anniversary.
I'm always excited, I just hope some come true. Especially a theatre- are all old ones gone?- but I hope this means shows too!

When I read this last week I thought I read like a Marvel Super Heroes fan wish list and still does. I belive the refurbishment part about Space Mountain and BTM but do not belive DLP has the money for all these proposed works in WDS nor do I belive the WDC want's to loan DLP any more money. It will cost around $50million just to up grade Star Tours to Star Tours II.

Many of these are 'Blue Sky' projects that have been leaked before. And DLP have already confirmed no new projects until 2017.

De la Terre à la Lune was much better than Space Mountain: Mission 2!

Here is the description from DLP Magic web site.

Opened in 1995, Space Mountain: De la Terre à la Lune gave the freshly-renamed Disneyland Paris a thrill ride of worldwide significance. The first roller coaster to have a fully-syncronised on-board soundtrack, the first Disney coaster to feature multiple inversions and the first Space Mountain to posess a dramatic cannon launch (still unique to this day thanks to its 32-degree incline), all wrapped up in a 130-year old French science fiction fantasy.

In 2005, seeking a similar boost after several more years of declining business, the attraction was relaunched as Space Mountain: Mission 2. While some improvements such as a longer launch and more impressive internal effects progressed the experience, the generic modern music and vague "edge of the universe" destination ultimately removed much of the soul which made the 1995 original feel more than just a thrill ride, but a piece of history. Perhaps, one day, history will rewrite itself yet again and the beaming face of the Moon will come back into view...

Originally opened as Space Mountain: De la Terre à la Lune on 1st June 1995, with a storyline closely based on Jule Verne's 1865 novel of the same name. Many elements of "From the Earth to the Moon" were referenced throughout the ride, such as the Baltimore Gun Club and Blue Moon Mining Co. The signature scene was not an exploding supernova but a whimsical projection of the Moon, face and all, beaming down at riders as they dropped over the crest of the lift hill and descended back to Earth.

While most launched roller coasters built since the opening of Space Mountain launch riders horizontally along the ground, the Columbiad cannon uniquely launches trains upwards at an angle of 32 degrees, custom-designed for the attraction.

After on-board soundtracks for roller coasters were pioneered with Casey Jr. - Le Petit Train du Cirque in Fantasyland the year earlier, Space Mountain perfected the art with the first multi-section, fully-synchronised on-board ride score. The trains store the music on solid state Flash cards - revolutionary at the time - with each "track" mixed into a seamless score as the trains progress through various electronic checkpoints along the track. There are more than 150 speakers in each train.

Echoing the early intention for Discovery Mountain to feature indoor space besides the roller coaster, the attraction originally featured a unique Star Way (La Voie Stellaire) viewing gallery — or the "chicken way" as it became known. This indoor pathway ran alongside the single queue line and allowed those too afraid to ride to still get a unique glimse inside the mountain through the wire mesh walls. In 2000 part of this space was reused as the attraction's Fastpass queue, whilst the 2005 Mission 2 overlay saw the open mesh walls covered up, no longer allowing any guests to see the coaster track snaking around the building.

A 16-sided polygon, Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris has a diameter of 62 metres and rises 43 metres high as the biggest landmark of Disneyland Park and a unmissable sight on the local skyline. The mighty 22-metre Columbiad cannon, which sits on top of the structure, weights an impressive 15.5 tons.
Looking at Space Mountain from a Fantasyland angle, the two cog wheels and round aiming device atop the mountain form a very clever Hidden Mickey.

The list is nice, but I'll wait to see it in reality.

It would be nice is TWDC could find an appropriate method of funding DLP without the need to cause additional financial issues.

I say this in light of the announcements in the last couple of days where:

- TWDC and it's partners in the Shanghai park have agreed an $800million expansion - before it's even opened

- Oriental Land (OLC) who operate the Tokyo parks announce that they plan to invest $4.8 billion over the next 10 years ($480 million a year effectively).

Yes!! What people do not realise is that the Asian parks are also franchises, where the Chinese and Japanese government fully control what happens to them.
Their investments come from resources with in their own countries, (unlike DLP) because of the crazy controlling operators whom will only approve of plans if they are the ones at the helm.

Yes sorry, I did realise that (although it wasn't clear from my original post). That said as I understand TWDC is still providing something like $344 million of Shanghai's $800 million investment - the joys of it being in a partnership.

The "point" of my original post (which was lost, because I did it in a hurry), was just imagine what DLP could be with a fraction of that investment.

Um Tom Staggs has actually been in contact with the management of Disneyland Paris to discuss major funding for Walt Disney Studios upgrades. So things can change and they can get funding.

I sincerely hope Studio One is left well alone.. IMO it's the only "magical" part of the Studio's park, and the park itself needs to take example from it, not the other way around!...

The Studio's simply need to be better at Christmas also.. they feel so bare and soulless compared to the Disney park, they need to add large Christmas trees, more music, lights, decorations etc to it at Christmas... the only decoration you tend to see is in front of Studio One and by the entrance gates, that's it.

Um Tom Staggs has actually been in contact with the management of Disneyland Paris to discuss major funding for Walt Disney Studios upgrades. So things can change and they can get funding.

Sorry I don't belive a word of it. Bob Iger is leaving the TWDC in 2016 the last thing he would want to do is put TWDC into more debt to rescue DLP. If such a deal was on the cards it would have been mentioned by Mark Stead, or Philippe Gas at one of the Shareholders Round Table meetings.

Also such a large financial deal would have to announced to the New York Stock Exchange and the Euronext under the US The Sarbanes–Oxley Act.

Euro Dinsey is not going to put it self into even more debt at the moment. If it was not for the TWDC refinancing the loans the company already had and reducing the Parks interest rates the present refurbishment works being carried out in the resort would not be happening.

The covenant obligations under the 2012 refinancing from TWDC states that Euro Disney S.C.A is not permitted to enter into any new or additional indebtedness or borrowe money except for the € 50.0 million overdraft the group has. In addition, Euro Disney is not permitted to incur or assume any new of additional liens or encumbrances on any of its property or assets.

The TWDC refinancing was a total lock down on Euro Disney borrowing any more money.

Your very right Iain, WDS would be fantastic with that type of investment but I can't see it happening any time soon. Park attendance would have to increase first and DLP would have to make a profit or break even for at least five stight years for anymore investment.

I somtimes wonder if it would be better for DLP if Euro Disney SCA were to be taken over by another company like the Merlin Entertainments Group for example.

To set the record straight on my position, I find myself in the camp of the "doubters".

If I ignore the rest of your (perfectly valid) points, I think the answer to the above are that this really depends on at which stage any negotiations between TWDC and Euro Disney SCA are really at.

They could have had all of the negotiations and agreed in principle, but if there is nothing as yet signed, and no money has changed hands - they there would be nothing to tell shareholders or any financial institutions.

In the same way that nothing was announced regarding the 2012 refinancing until it was actually ready to happen. There must have been discussions and numerous meetings regarding this between TWDC and Euro Disney SCA yet nothing was said to shareholders of either company, or financial institutions until it was actually a done-deal and ready for announcement.

Remember, we've been here before. There was the fuss not that long ago about an interview that Bob Iger was making where it was said he would DLP related investment announcements that proved fruitless.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a DCA style "rescue" plan from TWDC for Paris, but they have to had come up with some major new method of "funding" to make it work, because everything else just increases the debt effectively.
