Disneyland or Walt Disney World More Romantic?

A vote for Disneyland, only cuz I've never been to WDW, but I agree with the comment about go with what you know ( WDW ).
As for specific locations in DL, I like the idea of near the castle as well. If you get a chance check out the secret path by the Harbour Galley
( youtube search " Secret #3 Harbour Galley secret path " , sorry I'm not allowed to attach the link here yet ). Plus the Blue Bayou restaurant would be super romantic, you have to make reservations, so when doing so let them know you're plans - could be great.

My DH proposed at the Disneyland picnic area right outside the gates. Surprisingly romantic and pretty private. Then we went and had dinner at Blue Bayou.

My now husband had to tell me he wasn't going to propose to me when we went on his first trip to disneyland. He had other plans and could see I was waiting for it to happen. I would vote for disneyland in the grotto/wishing well area on the side of the castle. Another area that is usually quiet but still surrounded by people is the area between the haunted mansion and New Orleans square. There are still lots of people but it is off the main path.

I think it just depends on how well you love each resort and how you intend to propose. DLR and WDW are very different. I prefer DLR and find it romantic, but I can see WDW being romantic, too. I wouldn't choose DLR, though, if you haven't been there yet. Everyone is different. Some DLR and WDW vets prefer the first parks they visited, some prefer the parks across the country from them.

Since you haven't visited DL yet, I'd suggest popping the question at WDW, since you already know that place and thus will be able more easily to plan the big ask (location/timing/manner/etc.) I say that because sometimes, even though you may want to visit the other parks, you turn out not to like them as much as you anticipated. (That happened to us with WDW.) And that could put a damper on things.

On the other hand...if you're saying (if I'm reading correctly between the lines) that you don't find MK to be particularly romantic, then you might want to go ahead and make the ask at DL.

I agree with Mike here.

Further, WDW's greater size allows for more options. I am not sure why it has to be MK vs. DL though. How about doing an Illuminations cruise at Epcot and doing it there out on the water? Or getting a reservation at the California Grill during a fireworks show at MK?

Note I personally have never done either of these but have read enough I can imagine they would be special.

One of my daughters just got engaged by the grotto this last July, a park photographer took the pics and it was s big surprise. Was very candid and the expression on her face was priceless.

Just another response

This is a must no matter where you do it!

My husband proposed at Jiko in Animal Kingdom Lodge and he said the staff were absolutely fantastic about everything - he went there each morning before it opened to organise stuff (i thought he was swimming!). And he organised the lovely maitre d' to take photos - which are priceless.

He did it on our 3rd of 6 nights there - which was great because we got to really enjoy the engagement while we were there with the"just engaged" badges and a lot of congratulations from staff. so wherever you do it i recommended doing it on the first couple of nights of the trip.

no matter what you do it will be romantic

Sounds like you're talking about the resort area pre-DCA. I hardly think the Anaheim Resort Area of today is "scummy". It's actually rather nice. Personally, I think the wide open spaces of WDW are depressing. So much wasted space and unkempt vegetation just says "backwoods" to me, not romantic vacation kingdom.

The resort itself is great. Everything on the Disney property is great. But I'm saying everything off the property, while maybe not horrible, is still kinda scummy IMO. All those other people leeched on to Disney and it stinks.

That's what I love about WDW. The open space. Perhaps in the next 25 years they'll build Park #5 there. But yeah, the open-ness is a plus for me personally. I love it.
