disneyland iphone app

if the app works then it may be worth the $$.
Especially if it is set up in such a way that you get updates directly from DL instead of from users. That way you could have real time updates with no need for many users doing updates....that would be exciting.

That's honestly what I'm hoping for. With all the money that I(we) spend on our disney trips these days to figure out ride schedules, best days at the parks, etc, $9.99 seems a small price to pay to have some real time, accurate information to make your trips to the park even more enjoyable.

If the Verizon app is launched in the next month, I'll get in a good comparison for it. We're going Dec. 16-22 with another family. They'll be on the iDon't (I mean iPhone) and I'll have my Droid. May the best phone/app win!

I agree.. That is what I meant by the App being Disney itself. They can update it with the same info they use in the parks. If it does that it would be gold and would be worth a subscription fee.

That being said, that is also why I think that eventually they would offer something similar to other carriers. I guess that also depends on how much the deal with Verizon is worth and if they have enough users that would be paying for the service. It seems like since Disney has no control over what carrier guests have the exclusivity wont be permanent...

How would the real time updates work???

Jack

Got a Droid last weekend (LOVE IT) and going to DL on Wednesday (can't wait!). Too bad it doesn't seem like there is a good app for it right now.

We go to DL weekly. I rely mostly on MouseWait for wait times and GotPlans for fastpass return times. This information is critical for us as we usually go to California Adventure first and then need to decide when to head over to Disneyland. I believe that the wait times are most accurate with MouseWait even though it is newer.

However, I'd be very excited to get an app directly from Disney that had actual wait times and fastpass return times. I would not pay more than $1.99 for it, though. Anything more is against the spirit of the iPhone... :)

Edited to say that I'm now downloading Walkee.

I'm guessing that whatever they do to update the wait boards in the park they will keep doing, but put the info on a server that the app can query at any time.

This really is the holy grail for phone apps for park visitors, I can't believe they've waited so long to do it. I also can't believe they are doing it only with Verizon. Maybe they will set up a stand to rent Verizon phones for the day just to carry around the wait time app.

We also know that the Fast Pass system is already networked. It probably wouldn't hard at all to tap that for Fast Pass wait times etc... Then they just have to use whatever system they have to estimate wait times on the boards and make an electronic process to report those times if they dont already have an electronic way to do it...

just a heads up that the official Verizon app will NOT work on Blackberry phones. This was confirmed by Disney and Verizon. It did work on my wife's Envy2

just give us an app that will work on Android phones with the same basics as the Iphone app and the new one from Disney...
It gets really frustrating that one phone gets you one thing and another gets you something else...just equalize across the board so we can all enjoy the same information:confused3

The Disneyland mobile site isn't half bad, giving fastpass availability and categories of wait times, It's worth checking out if you have an iphone (or other smartphone not blessed enough to be on verizon)

6 days till GCV!!!

I wasn't sure, either, so I looked it up and found information at AllEars (http://allears.net/tp/pal.htm). Apparently it was an "interactive, plush Mickey Tour Guide" that was used at WDW.
Just something else to lug around....I just want a nice app for my Android phone since it goes everywhere with me now and only takes up space in one pocket;)

Pal Mickey?:confused3

We bought one for DD on our WDW trip. It is only good at WDW. It was cute and it had it's own lanyard so she could wear it around her neck. It kept her busy randomly telling jokes or giving Disney trivia. I did not find it was useful telling us ride times or where characters were in the park. (which is what they advertise). There are supposidly little triggers in the through out the parks that activate him. It was expensive ($60 ish) and buying the lanyard and changing outfits got annoying. But he does look cute hanging in her room!

I just downloaded the DIS Iphone apps: E ticket DL and E ticket WDW last night. I just read on another board that it wasn't supposed to have been available yet so they took it off again this am.

Corey said that it's not the finished product, but they are pretty sweet, you can pull up maps, find the restrooms, rides, dining locations, etc. You can much more easily access the DIS boards and post. It has a DVC calculator, etc. It has a itinerary planner. It's pretty awesome and it's not finished yet. Can't wait. :worship:

Why in the world would they make an app that doesn't work on a smartphone? I have a Blackberry Storm w/Verizon service and was happily awaiting the new app, only to find that it won't work on my phone! Huge bummer!! I am not too impressed with Blackberry so far, mainly due to my nightmare experience with the Desktop Manager CD (if you get a Blackberry, don't use the CD, or if you do, make sure you exclude Roxio Media Manager from you d/l!!). But again, why would they exclude BB from the Verizon app?

here's what i'll be using. works with any smartphone, not just iphone.

you build your itineraries on your pc then you can send them directly to your iphone or other smartphone. or you can just print your schedules out on paper, if you prefer.

it's free so worth a look.

I saw that some people managed to get that. :) Can you have easy Dis board access with BOTH the DLR and WDW version? That alone would make it worth having. Have you tried that?
