Disneyland in the Rain :(

Anyone know what rides usually close in the rain? I'm planning a trip in November with my mom and want to know what rides might close for a few hours. Also, how often does it rain down there in November?

Was there in December and it only drizzled on us one night while we were doing Storybook Boats and Casey Jr. It didn't seem to shut anything down and everyone just got in the 'caged animal' carts for Casey Jr.

We were there once in January and it was gloomy and raining off and on all day. This was winter though, when rain is normally expected. We were at DCA. What surprised me was that the CMs were all flustered by the rain... like they didn't know what to do.

The good: we got to do all of the rides with almost no wait, and the park was deserted.

The bad: we had lunch reservations at Ariel's and they turned us away. Since they had to close the patio they lost half their seating capacity and had more reservations than they could honor. I got 'ornery with them and demanded a table and they told me they could accommodate us in an hour. You darn well better believe we were back and made sure they did that for us! But it was a struggle. So I'm guessing all the crowds came to Ariel's when it started raining.

The disappointing: the Pixar parade (which my kids had been dying to see) was cancelled, because they were afraid the costumed characters would 'slip on the wet pavement'. I don't recall if the fireworks were cancelled or not, since we weren't at DL.

The bonus: The following morning it looked like rain again, so we all wore our blue windbreakers. As we were sitting in line for MM, we got asked to be the Family of the Day and open the park! I'm pretty sure it was because we all looked alike in out matching windbreakers.

So... there's my DL in the rain story!

Usually the Mad Tea Party and Alice in Wonderland will go down during sustained rain. I don't recall if they clear Tom Sawyer Island or not (anyone? Buehler?). The Main Street Vehicles may stop running as well. Possibly also Dumbo/Astro Orbiter.

For myself, if I have a jacket and something to keep my feet DRY, I'm thrilled with the rain. It rained several days on our trip in early December 2009 and it was a near-perfect trip. It was scheduled to rain most or all the days but it really "only" rained about 2 days. And that was a rainy season.

The only really bad thing was that the parades, fireworks, and shows didn't always happen, (the parades especially). Often the rain will clear out by nightfall. But IF it rains and if those are a priority then I'd suggest being sure to do them on the dry days. (Though to be honest, this time of year I'll bet the rain isn't bad at all.)

If I got caught in consistent pouring rain and had it to do again I would've just insisted on going on the same ride a few times in a row. Instead we wandered the parks (which were not at all crowded, even though the rain came mostly Friday and Saturday!). DCA in particular was a ghost town at night (though this was before WoC). TSMM was probably a 10 minute wait! And it was so beautiful.

It can also get slippery so do be careful. I've seen people fall!

The funniest thing that happens in the rain is that people actually go into Innoventions!

Tom Sawyer Island is closed when wet. Surfaces are just too slippery when wet. Parades don't run if the streets are wet and they don't run the fireworks in heavy winds or if there is rain falling or it has been very wet all day. The rest is sort of "it depends".

Big Thunder Ranch BBQ is closed if it's wet, the Mark Twain and Columbia ships are closed, the canoes are closed. Most of those places that are closed are because the surfaces are just too slippery when wet.

We don't have rain that often in So Cal so it isn't much of a surprise when the CMs appear to be scrambling a little. They have to wait for a supervisor to decide whether or not a ride will be closed and what steps they have to take.

Us AP's know that DLR that it's the best time to come! Like everyone has been saying lines are short!

A few tips...

Get a poncho.... They will keep you warm and dry, for a few bucks each they are a good investment.

Remember anything outdoors will close... Mad tea party, jungle cruise, dumbo, Tom sawyer island... They will reopen if it stops raining

Take in the shows, tiki room, Billy hill and the hillbillies, Aladdin, Capt EO, the animation academy at DCA and so many more!!!

Do things like.... Play checkers at the coffee shop on main street.

You will have the most fun in an empty park!
