Am I crazy to spend $3,000 for a disneyland trip? We are a family of four 2 adults and two children 2 1/2 and almost 5 at the time of travel. We are flying from Oregon cost is about $1,400, I have not found anything cheaper. the difference($1,600) is for DLH and 5 day park hoppers. Travel dates would be 9/10 to 9/15 6 days/5 nights. We really want to stay at the DLH. I am surprised at the airline costs. We were planning to book thru AAA. They told me if any special deals come up (kids fly free) I can adjust the package for a $25.00 change fee. This will be our first time going with our children. We really thought it would be nice to stay at the resort hotel. I have always wanted to stay at the DLH but always ended up staying offsite.

We just booked through AAA for Mid September (for the half-marathon) Our package for 3 adults (DD15) was about $2400 for 5 night DLH resort view concierge and 6 day hoppers. I haven't looked at airfare yet.......but $1400 is very high ! Have you looked at Southwest to LAX?

I have tried all the different airlines and discount travel sites average ticket is $300.00. I really want to book and pay for it in advance while I have the money and then we will just be saving for our daily spending money. I also want to book in advance to get the times we would like to fly. Prices from here have been this high for several months.

Sue,

I just checked the Southwest Airlines website. They only show fares into June right now, but from Portland to Orange County (I don't know where in Oregon you are) it's showing internet fares of $79 each way per person. I would think that something equally good would come up for your dates in September! I never book on discount travel sites, primarily because they are rarely a discount!

You should call Disney Travel and ask for rates on the hotel only. Keep asking if there's any better rate. Ask about codes, AAA, seasonal discounts, promotions. You have to be persistent. Write everything down, and even try calling several times. You'll get a better deal than you're getting.

As far as park hoppers go, check this site for better prices:

I've always found that getting everything separately saves a good chunk of money.

Hope this helps!

It seems a bit steep, especially for the airfare, but well worth it. I would watch for the SWA Dings, there may be something considerably less that pops up.

Have a magical trip. I hope to be going back down there soon.

All I can say is that you are going at a great time! We went last September 11-17, and had a blast. Never needed the AAA enhanced fastpass, never hardly needed a fastpass at all! :teeth:
The DLH is a wonderful place to stay with kids! You will love it there!

Southwest won't release their discounts for quite a while.....We decided that the AAA package was worth it since we do not know how crowded the marathon will make the parks.

Definately book separately. You can get AAA disc for the room & then keep watching for the airfare.

I am going in Sept for my first time to DL (been to WDW 100 times) How are the crowds/weather then?

Judy-me & my mom are coming for the 1/2 marathon also. We just did the 1/2 in WDW & had a blast. I hope this one is just as fun! Good luck!

I think the airfare is high too. I am pricing flights from LAX to MCO in September for our cruise and those flights are far less than your flight from Oregon to California.

I second that being a great time to go. We have been there in that same time frame for my dauhter's birthday on the 10th, two years in a row. Great crowds, in that there weren't any. Walk ons during the week and very manageable crowds on the weekend. You will love the Disneyland Hotel, it is perfect for your kids, especially the pool area. I would book separately, packages with airfare are generally better deals when you get closer to your dates. And you will be able to see the park decorated for the 50th before they end that sometime later that fall. Have fun!

Airfare should go down as you get closer. You usually don't save money on flights if you book so far ahead. Can you book the rest of your package and then add on air in June or July? That is when better rates should come out for September.

Thank you for all the input. We are very excited about going. I might book my airfare through AAA and then if it does go down I can re-book airfare with them for $25.00 change fee. I am afraid prices are going to go up. The travel agents were also commenting on the prices saying they have been high for a while and that I could get a better deal going back east. Thats crazy!. I was also wondering if the crowds would be good. I know the marathon is the weekend we are leaving so I also was wondering about crowds.

I'm suprised, that hotel is usually much higher. The average price I pay for airline tickets round trip for 2 is about $700-$800, then a standard room alone is over $2,000.

Check Southewest Airline Vacation Package. I did for WDW from New Orleans and my flight only cost $19.00 (9/11 security fee)
