Disneyland Hotel - worth it?

Hi all,

Not long back from our 6th stay at DLP & as always it was amazing
Already planning our 7th trip for Feb half term and considering pushing the boat out a bit (as it will be our youngest daughters 3rd birthday whilst we are there) and stay at the DLH.

Up until now, all our stays have been at the Santa Fe which we enjoy (the refurb has been done very well) but we want to try something new next time.

Deals at the moment mean that the Santa fe would be around £700 with no meal voucher.
The same stay at the New York hotel is around £850 with a meal voucher.
The same stay at the DLH is around £1400

Its a bit of a no brainier to upgrade the the New York hotel, but I'm still tempted by the Disneyland Hotel...

I just wanted to ask anyone who has stayed at more than one on-site hotel - is it really worth it?

Ooh, this is always a tough one - on one hand I say yes, it's worth it, and on the other I say no!

I stayed at the Disneyland Hotel for my 50th and it was wonderful and everything I'd hoped it would be and worth every penny. The following year we stayed at the Newport Bay - at probably about a quarter of the price of the DLH and we had two lovely rooms (Admirals Floor) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. In fact I think I preferred our room at the NPB! Not that there was anything wrong with our room at the DLH, it was lovely too, I just preferred the layout of the NPB one.

The downside to NPB was the location, more precisely the walk to and from the parks - I'm used to walking as I have dogs but it was 39/40C so a bit hot I wouldn't have minded the walk if it had been a bit cooler! The downside to DLH was that we found we were a bit trapped in the DLH bubble and had to really force ourselves to venture out into the Village.

Would I stay at the DLH again? Most definitely but probably only for a special occasion or a significant event.

What would I do in your case? I'd stay at the HNY as you've still got a great location if it's cold (especially with little ones), you'll still get a hot breakfast, and it's a fab hotel even though the theming does nothing for me ..... and the money saved is an awful lot to put towards another holiday.

We loved the Disneyland hotel when we stayed there twice and considered it our favourite until we stayed ay the HNY....have stayed there on our last 3 trips!!! I think it is lovely to get to experience all of the hotels and a stay at the DLH will definitely be memorable. It can be cold in February and wet.....so being that close to the parks makes for a comfortable stay....its great to be able to pop back for a dry off and warm up! Enjoy whatever hotel you choose x

I agree with Elaine. We loved our stay at the Disneyland Hotel, but we stayed there for a special trip (my parents 40th wedding anniversary) and I would love to stay there again in the future for another special trip. But for me, the cost is just too high for the trips that we now do. I enjoy staying at the New York. The breakfast is good and the walk through the village in the morning gets you in the Disney spirit! Although I must admit each trip we do either have a meal in the Disneyland hotel (we are eating at Inventions this Thursday before the Halloween party!) or go for a drink in the Fantasia bar just so I get some Disneyland Hotel time!

We also stayed at the DLH for a special occasion (Father's Day) and we had what we felt was a good deal, with half board so we made full use of that and ate at Walt's and Inventions (3 times), so we felt as though we truly got our money's worth!
You can't beat the location, and if one is so inclined, I think every Disney lover deserves to stay in a pink hotel that's essentially the park entrance. where else can you do that??

Our room was nice, not great...nor amazing...but very nice and clean and the hotel smells lovely... Breakfast is good, the view from your table can be outstanding...BUT, others say...I don't think we'll ever stay there again unless for another very special occasion or some ridiculous good deal.

My family's favorite hotel thus far is the Sequoia...we love the coziness of the fire after a chilly day in the park.

I say go for the HNY!

It is very hard to justify paying so much more for DLH, but, it is beautiful! We've stayed twice and the location cannot be beaten. In Feb I think it would be ideal if the weather is cold.

I do love HNY too and wouldn't hesitate to go back. However, although DLH is expensive, the price you've quoted is actually very good. So it might be a good opportunity for you to try it now when the price isn't too eye watering!

Given the prices you quoted l'd go for HNY. We were at HNY 2 weeks ago & loved it. We stayed at the DLH in March 2008 & loved it too, especially it's closeness to the park with the weather being so cold (we'd been to DLP in March another year & the weather had been milder).
Our stay at the DLH was on a 3 nights for price of 2 & kids under 12 free deal, if l remember correctly it cost under £800 - too good to refuse, l remember thinking at the time it was a great price. I would love to stay there again, maybe for my 50th birthday in 3 years time, but l'd feel it would have to be a really good offer for me to justify it.

Whatever hotel you choose l'm sure you will have a great time.

Also, one of the drawbacks on our recent trip was a lack of choice on places to eat. We really wanted to eat at our hotel (Santa Fe) but we also didn't want to miss the dreams show or eat too late after the show - so we always ate at the park. This was great, but we'd love to be able to watch the parade, go to the hotel for dinner and then watch Dreams afterwards.

Plus, not having the hustle and bustle of the coach back to the hotel every night would be a huge bonus

DW and I have not stayed in the DLH yet, but we have spent a lot of time there. We usually have a meal there at least twice during our trips and have always enjoyed the time we spend in the hotel.

I plan on staying there one day for a special occasion, possibly for our wedding anniversary or birthday one year.

The one thing I do like about the hotel is it's location. You can't ask for more that walking out of parks and going straight into the hotel. Also the views from the restaurants up Main Street USA is just fantastic when your having a meal.

As you say location is definitely a factor at that time of year, although HNY is not so far away. The DLH for a birthday trip would be magical.

If the price includes premium or half board plus l would be quite tempted to stay at the DLH for that price. (Note to self walk away now, you are not tempted, repeat you are not tempted )

Its a good questions and I was thinking about that all the time.

Our next trip will be in January 2014 and it could or will be cold.

Your are right that the walking distance from the DLH is a good argument but we always stay at the SQL and we always walk to the parcs and we never felt cold or such a thing. We covered ourself in warm clothes but at that time of year you have to do so if you stay the whole day in the park.

The main reason is the price. I don´t think that the DLH is worth that more money than the SQL or HNY.

We always say: We go to the SQL and the spare money we spend for an extra day or souvenirs.

I love the DLH and i will stay there in the future for a birthday or something like that but for a "normal" stay I guess it is not necessary.

I actually think that is a really good deal for the DLH and I would go for it

If you book the DLH and it includes half board, then yes...that would be the premium voucher (Inventions, Auberge...etc)...at that price, that actually sounds like a pretty decent deal. Make the most of those vouchers!

We were at DLP this past February and it was indeed freezing and snowing and staying at the NPB made for an incredibly cold commute! Lol...and we use to live in Alaska and enjoy the cold, so that's saying something. Lol...

If DLH won't put you in a bind, then I say go for it...but defiantly upgrade to HNY.
