Disneyland Hotel VS Paradise Pier

We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel on our last trip to Disneyland and absolutely loved it. We were looking at prices for an August trip and saw that Paradise Pier was over $100 less a night. What are the differences between these hotels? Is it like at Disney World where there is different tiers of hotels or is it just a difference in decorating? We usually stay at one of the monorail resorts when we are in DW and thought that the Disneyland hotel was pretty comparable but we might be willing to go to a different hotel if it would still be a unique experience and comparable to one of the deluxe resorts.

As far as the rooms, the difference is mostly décor. I find the biggest difference is in the pool area. DLH is far superior. I like and have stayed at both.

I wish to stay at DLH someday, but my family has not d/t the generally significant price difference from PPH. We've stayed at the PPH twice, and will be returning for a 3rd stay at the end of summer. I wouldn't consider it "deluxe," but it is nice enough as far as hotels go. There is plenty of Disney flair, and that's the main reason we stay there as opposed to off-site hotels that are far less expensive and possibly closer w/ regards to walking distance. However, if I had the means, I would definitely try the DLH first, then the GCH.

I would say that PP is a moderate +. It is a high rise, with park views available, and has a club level. I stay there pretty often (once a year or so), and I have stayed at the other DL hotels 2-3 X each. I like them all. I will be at PP again in August.

I like to book the PP upper level theme park view rooms, over DL hotel rooms. The view is spectacular, and it is guaranteed, not a crap shoot at check in. It is a pricey upgrade, though. It's a shorter walk to the parks, too.

The pool difference could be a factor that I generally do not care about these days. If the pool is important, you would prefer DL Hotel or GC.

Thanks for all of the replies. This really helped a lot and it definitely makes more sense. We decided to go ahead and book the Disneyland Hotel because we liked the environment of it last time. Maybe next time we will be brave enough to try a different onsite hotel!
