I'm not able to find pricing info on the Disney properties for the star wars marathon weekend (Jan 16 2016) -- the official Disney reservation site only goes up to December 2015. I'm most interested in the Disneyland Hotel, especially the 1 bedroom suite. We have 5 adults and I'm looking for the best option.

The only way to book now for 2016 is to go through the race travel planning company.

My understanding is that discounted rates for marathons can only be booked through GET travel, which should be in a link on the run disney website. The discount is only on standard rooms and you have to book a minimum of two nights. I think the DLH discounted rate should be around $330 a night plus tax. If you want a suite you will have to book through the website at regular price. Just a heads up, 2 standard rooms is always cheaper than a one bedroom suite.

Thanks for the info! I know it's probably down to preference, but do you think it's advisable for 5 grown adults to squeeze into 1 standard room?

The PP stated 2 rooms are generally cheaper than a 1 bedroom suite...not to book 1 standard room.
WDTC will not release 2016 until later on this summer. Like others have mentioned...you can purchase standard rooms from Get Travel.

Right -- I was just considering as an even further cost-saving measure having all 5 adults stay in 1 room, but I'm just wondering if that would be super cramped/a really bad idea.

With 5 adults I think it would be more comfy to be at PPH instead of DLH. Bigger rooms in general.

Are the 5 adults running in a race? I think you'll have a hard time getting ready with that many people in tight quarters.

There is a possibility that you will get assigned a room with no sofa bed so someone would have to sleep on the floor. Unfortunately not all standard rooms are the same size at the DLH. While some are very spacious with double sinks, seperate bathroom etc some quite frankly are not. You won't know what kind of room you will get until you actually check in. You can definitely put in a request for a sofa bed room but there is no guarantee that they will honor your request.

Really, they would make you sleep on the floor? I have heard that GCH sometimes does this, but I haven't heard that about DLH. Last year we were going to get a room for 5 at DLH, 3 adults and 2 kids. We booked our room through Orbitz and then I called the hotel directly to put in my requests. The CM I spoke to said that if you have 5 in the room they would definitely give you a room with a sofa bed. Maybe if they didn't have any sofa bed rooms available then they would upgrade you? We ended up with only 3 in our room so we got a 2 queen room with no sofa bed in the Fantasy Tower. The room we had did not have very much extra space. I honestly don't know where you could put a roll away or even a sleeping bag in the room we had. It would NOT have been comfortable with 5 adults.

The problem is that that weekend the hotel is at capacity, so it is possible that they will run out of 2 queen sofa rooms and have no upgrades available. Last year we booked DLH from Sunday (the day of the race) to the following saturday. Then we changed our minds and decided to go for a full week Saturday to Saturday. The problem we encountered was that there were NO rooms left on the saturday night before the race. Completely full! We ended up having to stay that saturday night at paradise pier and then transfer over to DLH on sunday. I think that of course they will try to accommodate them, but like i said before, you can't gurantee it. I am not sure if the DLH even have sofa beds. If they do then you could fit in some rooms fine, but some rooms are too tiny. Again, totally luck of the draw.

edit to add: last year the race sold out instantly. This year there are still spots in the half available. This makes me think it won't be as busy this year as last year, so you might be more successful in finding the type of room you want.

DLH has some rooms with daybeds. We can never get them because we are a family of 3. If we were a family of 5 it would be the room we would be put in.

But we like PPH better. ALL rooms at PPH have the neat sofabeds. And the rooms are bigger.

All 5 of us are running the 10k and two in our party have lost their minds and are running the half and the 10k. This is my first time staying on property as an adult and I'd like to be comfortable, but I also don't want to break the bank. I might suggest Paradise Pier, but I know a few people in the party prefer DLH.

Paradise Pier is right there for the corrals - it was super awesome last year to just walk outside and be there! We stayed there last year for the race and found it to work out well with everything. Having to walk back to the hotel also was a good post race stretch.

This is why I like PPH for race weekends. My mom and daughter share one bed, my son takes the sofabed which he loves and I get a bed all to myself! So I sleep better and I dont wake him up when I get up way too early for the races. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to try DLH and GCH one day but the bed set up at PPH just works well for us. Plus I love the boardwalk/pier theme, having grown up spending summers in Santa Cruz.

:) same background. Lived in SJ but noncustodial dad has always lived in SC area.

5 people in a room means that anything ends up reasonable per person assuming no one is paying for another person. But with PPH you know you'll have a spot for the 5th person while with Dlh it's not 100% known, especially I there are many other groups like yours and if they check in before you. :)
