Aloha,

I tried to search for the answers to this with no success.

When is the best time to do laundry at DLH? Is it easier to go 'off-site'? Is it 24 hours? We plan to stay a week, where do you folks do your laundry?

Thanks,
Lynn:love:

DH kindly did some laundry one night for us. We were at the Paradise Pier, so the trek was a bit much while carrying a heavy laundry bag, but he survived. He is currently napping so I'll have to go by memory on this one...I *think* he said that it was open until midnight. Don't know what time they open.

It seemed a bit on the expensive side. If you have a car, and time to scope out the area ahead of time, AND if you had some free hours, I would consider washing off-site. But convenience is worth quite a bit, a is having more trust in your surroundings, so if it's just going to be one person washing while the others sleep (or sleep in), I'd probably stick with the DLH coin-op rather than go off site.

The laundry room at the DLH is sort of tucked away back by the quiet pool and health club. It's the usual, $2 to wash and $2 to dry. I think they had about five washers and dryers. In our nine nights there in June, I never had a problem getting one or two to use, I don't think most guests even know the laundry room is there! They have a machine that sells laundry soap and fab sof, for $1 each.

Its not open 24 hours, but I do believe it opens very early, around 6:00 or 7:00. At night I think its open until either 10:00 or 11:00. There is a bench right outside as well as a restroom. It was really easy to do laundry while we swam at the quiet pool, however the quiet pool hours are shorter than the laundry room hours. One morning very early, I was able to sit on the bench and read while I did a couple of loads.

I think its way easier to do it there, esp. if you can get up early one or two mornings. Although I seriously did laundry about five times when I was there at all different times. I think going offsite would be a pain personally. There was a laundrymat on Katella, not that far from the DLH that we passed one day.

Here are some pics I took (no idea why) of the DLH laundry room:

DH woke from his nap and I finally remembered to ask him the timing question, and he definitely remembers midnight being the closing time for the laundry room.

thanks, that's very helpful!! my hubby had a bad experience at one of the anaheim hotels on our previous trip. he actually had to babysit the dryer due to people taking out other people's wet clothes and drying their clothes on someone else's dime!

He's even more awake now, and offers more advice.

While he was there, he got advice from others there. The dryers are a bit feeble, so it's best to split the wet clothes into more dryer loads, or you'll need to use more cycles and more quarters. And more time.

Go early, b/c it gets busy.

Bring a book if the pool and/or exercise room is closed.

I personally would never leave laundry, I don't think I could even leave to swim or work out, because I have had laundry stolen out of my apartment complex laundry room, and it was a really rotten feeling. So I was glad that he brought a book and sat there.

I had the opposite experience. I just wanted to throw in one load but everytime I went down at least one or two folks were waiting for a washer. I kept thinking if I timed it right I would be able to get right in. On the fourth try I finally gave in and waited my turn in line.

Definitely don't overload those dryers. You'll be digging for more quarters or doing this back in your room...

I guess I got lucky. When we were there in June, the laundry room definitely closed at 10:00 which was when the main pool closed as well. The quiet pool closed earlier than that. As I said, I did laundry five or six times in our 9 nights and never had to wait for a machine once. Usually I had the place to myself which was even better. The dryers also worked fine (as long as youd didn't overload them) for our visit but one of the washers didn't work at all, it didn't spin my clothes which was a real mess. I called the front desk, they gave me my money back plus more to do another load since the clothes were literally sopping wet.
