We will be staying at the Disneyland Hotel the weekend of Thanksgiving and I haven't stayed there in 4 years I would love to hear any comments or opinions
of the hotel and what has changed over the last few years. We are soooo looking forward to going for 8 wonderful days during the holiday season I guess I'm just looking to be re-assured that it will be full of pixie dust still! Thanks!! :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

While we weren't in the rooms, we were staying at GC, we spent a bit of time over at the DL hotel. The castmembers were excellent, they had the best gift shop in all the resorts. We loved hooks wine cellar. There is a great 50th castle photo opp in the front near valet. They have a beautiful mural for the 50th painted near the lobby. We were very impressed and thought we would not have any problem staying there at all.

I am hoping for good comments as well...we will be there June 27-July 3rd and some posts lower down have not been very complimentary......

It is all a matter of personal preferance. DH and I had a WONDERFUL time staying at DLH. In all the years I have been going to DL since I was a child, the first time staying at DLH was this past January (my parents always thought they would never be able to afford a room so we never even tried).

As much as I am OK with staying offsite around Harbor or Katella Ave hotels, you can imagine how much more magical it is to stay at DLH when you are use to Best westerns and Holiday inns.

The staff was extremely helpful, especially when we drove up not knowing if we should park ourselves..where to park..where to put our luggage etc. If we looked slightly lost, there was at least one person who asked to be of assistance. Even our bell hop recommended a restaurant to visit (Granville). The rooms were clean and TONS of disney touches.

The resort itself is beautiful and has a lot to do in itself. The swimming pool area has snack areas and seating. I know DLH isn't as close to the parks as the GCH but it is close to the monorail.

In all the stay was magical and I would stay there again. They have character dining, slightly finer dining, and snack bars (so all levels of budget are catered to).

Hope that helps you guys :earsboy:

I do enjoy the hotel. Out of the 6 or so times I've been there, I've only had ONE negative experience, and that's pretty good odds in my book! The rooms are lovely, and I love the large bathrooms! I wish I could buy one of the headboards from thier beds for MY bedroom at home! :)

Count me in as a DLH fan (also love Paradise Pier, haven't tried GCH yet, maybe some day). In fact if you do a search regarding this hotel you will probably see me always going on and on about it. It is probably my favorite hotel anywhere and I have stayed at plenty. I think for me the beautiful grounds, fountains and Koi ponds really make coming back from the park magical. We have always had the best service there, no problems really. We have stayed in both the Sierra and Bonita Towers and are in the minority in that we prefer the Bonita (if we can get the pool side). You can't really see the pool from that side but you have a nice view of the hotel area and we were towards the end once and had a great view of the Matterhorn and Big Thunder Mountain. We have also stayed on both sides of the Sierra Tower and enjoyed those. We had a second floor DTD side once and were amazed that not only was it quiet but also we had a pretty decent view of the firworks considering how low we were. Many people will say that the Disneyland onsite properties are not worth the extra money. To us they are but I can see where some people might differ. I just love the atmosphere of the hotel lobby, rooms, grounds and pool and am pretty much willing to pay for it. Whenver we check in there I just feel like all is right with the world! The rooms are so clean, nice and spacious, comfy beds and nicely decorated. I am sorry some people have had negative experiences but I think that can happen anywhere. If I were going this summer I would for sure want to stay there since park crowds will be high due to the 50th and that way we would have a favorite place to come back to if we needed a break. We love hanging out at the pool and enjoying some junk food and drinks from Crocs bits n bites and the Lost Boys Bar. As far as the walk to the parks, I don't get the big deal and we actually really enjoy walking up DTD with no worries about traffic. There is always great live music acts playing, different ones all along the strip. To me that is much more pleasant than the walk up Harbor where my son almost got run over one night entering the HoJo parking lot. Talk about a "Magic Buster"! Good luck to all of you that have upcoming reservations, I am envious!

Although we did have a negative start which you've all read about already, we were fine once we were moved.

I agree with the grounds, they are absolutely breathtaking, actually ALL of Disneylands grounds are beautiful. I was in awe of all the landscaping around there. The waterfalls on the property are really pretty (although loud) and at night are even more beautiful with all the colored lights glowing.

The Neverland pool is a lot of fun, and fun to look at too. My 6 1/2 year old loved the waterslide. The hottub is spacious enough. Lots of lawn chairs and a couple of tables to sit at. The beach pools are really nice too for more quiet plus they are easier to keep watch of the little ones. The sand area has a little play area for the kids and volleyball. In this area is the laundry room and the workout room. The pools in this area are REALLY warm too. Both pools have life vests for the kids, and towels. One morning we set out towels on a few chairs and came back in the afternoon and they hadn't been touched.

Like someone else said, there is all levels of food there. Crocs bits and bites had ice cream too (super plus!), we really liked Hookes Pointe (excellent clam chowder), it was actually the one meal we enjoyed the most. Goofy's Kitchen is tons of fun and a fun buffet. Granville's was horrible and expensive. If you do go there, the potato stack was awful. It was so salty none of us could eat it, and I like salt! $150 for 3 steaks (nothing special about them) and the potato stack which we didn't eat.

Loved having the little store in the Marina tower, very convenient for a water before bed, etc.

Agreed also about the walk to the parks, it really isn't that bad. I too love the walk through DTD, it is so lively and fun. We stopped every morning at the juice place. The monorail is real close but we never used it. We always thought about it, but felt the walk would be quicker, plus I love going through the main entry and seeing all the characters right inside and on main street. Le Brea's is a great quick place to stop in for a morning donut or fruit. Before you leave DTD to go into the gate area for DL or CA, there is a bag check.

ESPN Zone is right up alongside the hotel and they too have good food and a fun atmosphere.

It really isn't a bad place, it's just that we got a bum deal at first, but after a day of complaining it was fixed. Although I am still peeved that we even had to waste a day doing that and having to pack our stuff up the next morning for the move, it was very inconvenient.

You'll have a great time!

even though I personally did not enjoy the DLH. I will say in the Marina tower you will see carollers by the tree which is very pretty. Also they have a tree lighting ceremony at night. The Santa Claus in the lobby by Goofy's Kitchen is a good place to get the pictures with the kids or grownups.

I gotta say that I love this hotel. Maybe I haven't spent enough time in 4 star hotels to know the difference, but after staying there and feeling so cared for, I won't go back to the surrounding hotels. Talk about dingy and dumpy. $60-$100/ night for the Jolly Roger is a crime! The DLH is my choice when I'm not in my RV
