I know Paradise Pier lets you have access to a microwave near the desk, right? I am having a hard time finding out if DLH does the same. We will be mostly eating in our room because wrangling tired kids in restaurants really sucks so having microwave access would help a lot.

Anyone know if there is ANY access to a microwave short of booking a suite in DLH?

you would think for the amount of money they charge per night ($350+) they would at laeast have a microwave in the room

If worse comes to worse, there is microwave access at Whitewater Snacks in the GCH. If you will be walking by that way, you could stop in and just purchase beverages and heat your food. But hopefully you will be able to find a microwave at the DLH.

Whoa - I just read the room amenities for a standard room for DLH and they have no fridge???

Well, that definitely sways my vote to PPH. We need a fridge. Anyone been there recently that can confirm or deny this? I will be calling DLH tomorrow to check for sure.

Our room definitely had a fridge! It was just a two queen room, so I imagine it was a standard room.

Yes, they have a fridge. Just confirmed below in another thread and its stated several times in the DL Superthread. Its a dorm sized fridge in the armoire.

I really wouldn't expect a higher price level hotel to have a microwave. I travel for business and typically stay at nice hotels. Its rare to find something that's not suite-style and thats nicer than a Residence Inn that has microwaves. Westins, Marriots, etc. don't have those as standard amenities either.

When we were there in June, the "refrigerator" i beleave is what they call an icebox. In our room there was no way to turn it colder and it stayed cool but I would not say it was cold.

Thanks for the info re the fridge! That seems kind of backwards that higher end hotels do not have microwaves. I mean, really - if I pay more for a room, I am expecting more for my money. If Best Western can manage to put on a breakfast and have a fridge and micro in the room for 80/nt, then I would expect a higher end hotel to at least match that and/or have beyond exemplary service/upgrades etc.

To be honest, Stovall's is looking better and better.

all the standard hotel I've stayed at had microwaves this is supposed to be higher class for the money that people pay for it, they can affor to put in microwaves
or at minimum put one on every floor by the ice machine or something!!!

The rooms do have mini-fridges, however none of the rooms (including the suites) have microwaves. When we stayed there in February, we were told it was a fire hazard. I'm not sure where you could get access to one.

Higher end hotels also have other amenities like full service restaurants on site and room service, bars, resort style pools, and spas. A microwave and free breakfast are just not part of the deal if you are staying at a Ritz, Westin, Four Seasons, etc. Most do not have refrigerators either, unless you have a special suite. Its not something that's a priority for a business or luxury traveler. Recently "suite" hotels are more common that are nicer (mid-level) and have a kitchenette, but that's an exception in high end lodging.

Those amenities are more of a priority for a tourist on a tighter budget, that's why cheaper places have them. So yes, a place like BW will have a microwave and refrigerator, but its not because its an upgrade, its because of their target customer. DLH is kind of in between in that it is set up as a high end resort but caters to a tourist crowd.

That is a good point, Baygirl. Honestly, I am somewhat ok with them not having a micro - I can understand that to an extent. When I thought they did not have a fridge as well, yet their main market is to families with young children? That seemed off. I know Disney caters to a large market, but I would guess that families with children under 10 is a majority of them.

It would b nice if a micro was offered at an extra charge like refrig used to be.

We were there two weeks ago. There is a fridge and a microwave is available in the coffee shop by the pool deck.

Have fun!

Oh thank you! I don't anticipate really using the micro (mainly planning on sammies and getting food delivered) but knowing there is access if need be helps!

We stayed at the DLH last month, staying 5 days at the park vue and our last two at the Disneyland hotel. Coming from the PVI with a microwave and close parking it was quite a switch to the DLH. The afternoon we moved our stuff in I was opening a microwavable mac and cheese for my ds and after I opened it we were like where's the microwave? I called the help area and they said there is a micorwave in the pph hotel which is about a 5-10 minute walk they said. I was not going to walk 10 min to a microwave! For the price we paid (almost $450 a night) here I would think at the very least they would have a mircowave. I think it was nice to stay there but I think we all liked the atmosphere (lots of food choices-mcdonalds, dennys, mimi's etc) across the street better and free breakfast was included.
We also got free fresh baked cookies and punch/lemonade everyday from the Park Vue and also upon arriving to the PVI the kids got little gift bags with Disney goodies waiting for them with candy!
They were so excited.
Also if we wanted something else to eat we could hop in our car, which was right outside our room and go to the store or get cheaper food instead of eating in the park or downtown disney. I also thought it was weired that the sheets are changed every 4 days I think it was. We did not like being so far from the car either. The rooms were beautiful and big, nice pool/slide area (although it was cold/windy the two days we stayed. The days before were nice and hot) but for us the price we paid did not match what we felt we got. If they lowered the price, or added a microwave and some sort of breakfast to match what they charge we would stay there again.

It does seem strange that the more expensive a hotel the more you need to spend to eat. I think most people who can afford these hotels also don't like to scrimp on meals and are quite happy to eat at the hotel restaurant. However if you are staying 3, 4, 5, or more days that adds up! I only stay one or two nights so I want the whole 9 yards. I totally understand wanting a microwave. They have to have fridges though because of the number of people with diabetes now who need to keep their insulin in the fridge. You would think Disney would realize their demographic and put in a microwave though.

It's definitely true that the more upscale the hotel, the less likely they are to have something like a microwave or refrigerator. Very upscale hotels don't even have ice/vending machines. You either have to use the (very pricey) mini-bar, call for room service, or use the gift shop.
