DisneyLAND Honeymoon thoughts?

My fiance and I got engaged at Epcot last May, and we're set for an August 2012 wedding in New York City, where we live. So that gets to the question of the honeymoon...

We ruled out WDW, because we didn't think we'd be able to make it relaxing. Too much to do, and you don't want to feel like you're wasting time just sitting at the pool...

Our first choice was Aulani, but today I priced it, and at $450/night plus tax for their cheapest room, and $1100 per person for the cheapest flight, we're at around $5500 just for airfare and lodging before we eat or do anything! Too expensive for a week, especially since we have to pay for our own wedding.

So I came up with the idea today to combine the best of both ideas; do a week at a beach resort near LA, then do 4-5 days at Disneyland. Still pricy, but less so per day, and we get to walk around a Disney park in bride & groom ears

Has anyone who's done a Disneyland honeymoon give us their thoughts, what are good honeymoon things to do there, etc.?

I wish I could help! My husband and I are planning our Disneymoon to Disneyland April 29th - May 4th of this year (2013)! All I know is we got engaged at disneyland last may and we had such a blast! We actually went to celebrate his parents 25th wedding anniversary! lol I hope you get it figured our what to do! If it helps this is our plans:

We are staying at the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, it is simply beautiful! We loved staying there this last may and wont stay anywhere else because we would be comparing! We are flying in and getting a 4 day park hopper that way we have a day of rest/down town disney/and pool time, then 2 days at disneyland and 2 days at california adventure!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the DL area, in general, but there are some things to know before you choose a hotel:
There are 3 on-site resort, with the only one that's actually comparable to WDW given that DL doesn't really follow the Deluxe/Moderate/Value model. The Grand Californian is the west coast sister to the Grand Floridian, and while stunning, it is very pricey - even if you can find a discount. You might be able to look into renting DVC points to help save some of the cost, though. DLH is stunning since its revamp over the last couple of years, and the nostalgic references are superb. Paradise Pier is the least expensive, but it's also the least "Disney". Some people really enjoy it, but I'm just not a big fan. Don't count out some of Disney's Good Neighbor Hotels. The Sheraton Anaheim hotel is a great option, as is the Hilton Anaheim. There are a LOT of off property hotels, so if you do end up going with one, I strongly suggest reading up on Trip Advisor. The thing about Anaheim is that you could have one really nice hotel right next to a seedy one. Not to alarm you, but it's just something you want to be aware of.

As far as fun or special things to do for your honeymoon, I would suggest getting to the parks early in the day, so you can knock out most of the attractions in the morning before the locals start rolling in around 11-12, and then you can just take it easy from there. Book a meal at Carthay Circle (lunch isn't near as expensive as dinner, and is just as good). They also have a great WoC viewing section, all you have to do to get a ticket in is buy an entree, plus an appetizer OR dessert (per person). So you could order an app + entree, and your DH could order an entree + dessert, and you'd each get a FP into the viewing area. There's also Napa Rose at the Grand Californian. Take time to do a character meal (I'd recommend Minnie & Friends breakfast at DL).

I'm a big proponent of taking tours on your honeymoon, since it's not something you'd normally do. The Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour is a good one for honeymooners, and you get to visit Walt's apt over the Firehouse on Main St.! I've heard rumors that a segway tour is coming to DCA, so that might be an option for you by then.
