Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend 2024

The theme is most surely "Adventure", based on the event taglines:

Yoga - A Feel-Good Adventure
5k - Heroic Adventures
Kids races - Adventure is Out There
Dumbo - Double the Adventure
etc...

Mickey looks like he's wearing the costume for a Jungle Cruise skipper. Either way I wasn't planning on going to DL, and I'm still not. The theming is very disjointed. I love the 10K distance but I cancelled Disney+ last year because I wasn't watching any of the new content, and I don't miss it.

We thought about trying to make the party the Tuesday before or after work but it was just too complicated to try and figure out the hotel, flights, and PTO.

Total fomo for the kids race medal! No one in my family is young enough for that anymore

I had hoped for a bit of a different direction on the challenge and 10K medals. I thought a coffin shape with Jack and maybe Zero on it (plus others) would be cool. I had hoped the ghosts might be hitchhiking with the Haunted Mansion in the background. But they still look nice so that's a plus. It's important for me to try and separate whatever I think they should do from whatever they actually do so as to hopefully not be too disappointed when they go in another direction.

I like Half Marathon quite a bit and I've never seen Hocus Pocus. I had high hopes for the 5K and they met those. Chip and Dale in full on Halloween costumes is what I hoped for.

I really hope that happens at this next race weekend, but I won't know until I've actually run the races. I expected some bumps in the road in January. I think the Disneyland races will always of necessity be different from Disney World races, it's reasonable to expect that they return to the qualify of runDisney at Disneyland before 2017.

I really like the 5k medal and I'm fine with the 10k one. I'm curious what the back looks like since it appears to spin.

I also hit my fundraising goal for the 5k! Much faster than I expected but I'm not going to complain.

In addition to the challenge medal being a spinner, it looks like the 5K medal might have a spinning component (the spider web behind Chip and Dale) and I'm hoping that the 10K medal has a functioning door knocker! I'm really loving these medals and can't wait to earn them.

I just looked and I'm bummed that SNA doesn't seem to be included, at least flying from DAL. It did appear that I could save about $150 booking in and out of LAX, but I'm not sure that would be worth it given the increase in Uber/Lyft and having to deal with LAX and more traffic. Oh well.

Worth checking Long Beach as well. That was a significant savings for me and isn't that much further than SNA.
