Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend 2024

For everyone who ran, how was the course crowding? This was one of my biggest issues with the January race. It sounds like they released entire corrals at once again so I was wondering if it was as bad.

Also, was there better lighting and marking of potential obstacles and hazards?

I didn’t run in January so don’t have that as a comparison, but was happy with this course. I was in Corral D, and there was the typical crowding at the start of a larger race at the beginning but it spread out pretty quickly once we turned on Katella. There were definitely some parts of the course inside the park that were narrow but no bottlenecks anywhere. There were some narrow turns at times but for those they had speakers playing a loop warning us of a turn or course narrowing. Overall, very happy with the course!

I have this tag too for a finish line photo
Cool curious to see what ends up on the rD page. Since it’s not showing for everything.

I just discovered the 10k medal actually functions like a door knocker and I feel the need to inform everyone else if y’all haven’t discovered that

I can’t speak on crowds because I was ahead of where I was in January. So I don’t have a good comparison. That being said lighting and marking/announcements did seem improved. There were still some problem spots (exiting Avengers) but it was better in comparison to Jan. I didn’t have much gripes about Jan’s course. But I was much happier with the ones we had this weekend.

As far as corral release it did take them 50 minutes today to release the balloons. So it seems like they paced themselves better.

Unrelated but they really stepped up their photopass game. They heard the complaints on that and responded well. I have over 50 pictures from the 10k alone. Which is actually more then I got for some races at Princess.

I

I think it easier to miss character stops than wdw They seem more off the course. I saw characters from UP,maybe around grizzly?
I felt kinda similar when I did it in January, I think it’s a bit of them being more off course and a bit of the course seeming kind of tight in spots, I remember feeling a bit surprised when a few of them came up.

Unrelated: No water station bottleneck this time? Haven’t heard any complaints, so I guess that move must have worked.

My husband noticed a lot of corral hoppers between E & F because of the intersection between them. We were a last minute sign up for him and didn't have proof of time handy when doing that sign up so he was definitely seeded incorrectly in F.

He ended up adding over a half mile to his course during the first 6 miles because of weaving around the crowds. I think if he was in the correct corral, it wouldn't have been as much of an issue though.

Yeah this was an issue that regularly occurred prior to the hiatus. Unf I don’t think there’s a way to fix it. Anyone who’s done rD DL enough times from pre hiatus knows about this being a thing. They try to keep it from happening from what I remember but there’s only so much asking a crowd to move that will be effective and these people know it.

And there’s no real fix to the solution because rD does need both sides of the intersection, so it will always exist here

Yeah definitely standing by that not only did they listen to the Photpass complaints on the lack of them. They stepped up their game in terms of quality. I’ve changed my profile pic on FB like four times now. Because I keep finding a new favorite photo.

I don’t think even WDW has had me changing it this much in the past decade plus.

Totally agree with this. I did do January, and it was sooo much better. I would venture to say that this might have been the least crowded Disney half I've ever run. There were some crowded places in the parks, and along the canal, but I never felt bottlenecked like I have before on Disney courses.

The characters were absolutely awesome. Some of the character lines would not use your personal phone for pics. It was photopass only and they moved so much faster. Photopass is included with the races this weekend and I think that may have something to do with it.

Photopass being included while making the lines photopass only is kinda brilliant decision on someone’s part if you think about it. Because I do think rD being worried is what lead to lack of characters in Jan. So having the PP be included. While making sure you have a means to keep the line moving. Both helps keep someone from worrying about the sweeps and allows for them to put more characters out. And keeps a runner from complaining because hey they’re already getting these photos with their registration so even if they can’t use their phone they’ll still get it.
Oh bring this to FL! That sounds awesome!

Yeah at this point I think it's fair to say that they're worried about the crowding, at least they had something going on this time. IMO when I was running past in January it *seemed* like you could pull it off but I'll defer to them here.
Well we were half wrong since Black Panther and Groot were actually available for non selfie photos. But they still had SW selfies and the Dora Milaje as selfies. Maybe someone was reading these and made a move to listen to it at least partially?

Wait, where were they? There had been a spot where they do Avengers photo ops during the day that I thought would have made sense and it's a bit of a ways off the courses for the DL half weekend but it seemed like they had enough space do pull it off.

Groot was in front of Mission Breakouts sign.

I don’t have photo with Black Panther because by the time I realized he was there I didn’t have the ease to pull off for the photo but he was somewhere around here on the map. IMG_0584.jpeg
Dora Milaje was up on the platform like Loki and Moon Knight.

Sadly there was a death at the finish line.
I think the person was taken to the hospital first but yes this is very sad. He made a TikTok the day before about how the heat was affecting him… so tragic. I am guessing this is why runDisney hasn’t done any social media posts since before the start of the half.

They also wiped his results from the results page which I find a very interesting move. I'm not entirely sure why they would want to "erase" him from the race results.

I heard they swept quite a bit of people, but not sure how accurate that is. Sadly there was a death at the finish line.
Chatting with a runner in line for photos yesterday at Disneyland. Said she started in last corral, course flag was updated to red at the water stop, and everyone was swept around mile two. While on the bus, apparently balloon ladies went by, they complained about being swept before balloons, and race personnel offered they could try to catch up and make up the five minutes that had passed. She was not happy and sounds pretty terrible if that was truly their experience. Didn’t have time to get any more info than that.
