Disneyland Half Marathon 2024

My son broke his wrist rollerblading two weeks ago and it’s made me lose all my running motivation. It’s silly but I jus5 can’t get into running. He had surgery on it a few days after it happened. He’s a swimmer and swim runs on two year cycles. When he was 10, it was Covid now at 12… this. His big meet is in 5 weeks. It just sucks and I’m having a hard time focusing on myself. I’m going to try to run this afternoon.

Did you get out on a run this afternoon? I'm sorry for your son's injury. Take your time to clear your head and take care of your son's needs.... there is plenty of time to train. Maybe yoga would be helpful since you can do it at home on YouTube.

I'm really glad they're doing this. Not a Legacy for DLHM, but it's only right they honor it. Not any Legacy's daily the races were paused for so long.

I don't know exact numbers but its not going to take up even a quarter of Disneyland bibs assuming they stick with the roughly 15,000 runners for the half.

I'm just so used to here at WDW where it sells out sometimes in 30- 45 minutes! I'll be on that computer but we have about 10 of us registering separately so here's hoping!
Are they saying legacy runners are anyone that has run a DL race? Or just perfects? I would assume there would be tons of legacy runners but I was thinking the former!

There us no doubt this will sell out quickly. The demand with or without perfects is insane.

Legacies aren’t a ton to begin with. Between the 7 year gap people aren’t going to be in the same position to come back.

And there wasn’t a huge amount of us I think to begin with. Like I don’t know the numbers but realistically every year less people would have stayed on due to anything from injury to finance. I’m just lucky I’m still in the position to race again.

Even if 2017 me wouldn’t have guessed it would have been in a wheelchair racer.

Don’t get me wrong there is a huge demand for this. And it’s a sigh of relief to only have to probably deal with the 5k next week (on the fence need to talk with trainer)

But we aren’t taking that much from the gen pop in terms of numbers. DL 1/2 legacies were pretty small from what I recall. And I don’t think the Dumbo legacies like myself were that high either. Larger than the DL 1/2 because we hadn’t been around as long. But still small.

If every legacy stayed on then there wouldn’t be spots in races every year. But we don’t. People drop out

I’m glad they’re honoring it but I was surprised. Because one this is the day before early reg. And we got so close to it I started to assume they weren’t doing anything with us if they even knew who legacy still was.

Because tbh I wasn’t even sure if they still had the list with our names on it. It’s been 7 years I know a friend who is legacy tor Avengers said they would keep honoring it around when the last Avengers happened. (Which is actually a bit surprising for different reasons considering I don’t think Avengers hit the 5 mark and that’s usually when legacies start getting honored). I wouldn’t have been surprised if they had treated this as a full reset considering how long it’s been or the list got lost in some sort of error.

I am estatic they’re doing right by us and honoring our status. But I know I’m not the only one who was surprised by the choice.

And this is making me realize if they decide to bring Tink back eventually I’ll be legacy for that as well. I did the 1/2 every year.

But maybe someone spoke up and said it would be poorly received if they didn't offer it? Since Legacy is still a thing for WDW races and there were Legacy for DLR races it would be low even for Disney to remove that acknowledgement and the perk that comes with it.

And yeah, that does set the precedent for races that already acknowledged Legacy so here's hoping! I'm also hoping if Tink returns that PDC returns with it and gets Legacy status when it reaches its 5th year . We only got through 3 PDCs, though, so we'll see.

As a Legacy Dumbo, I am ecstatic and relieved that they are choosing to extend this benefit to us. How else could a legacy have a realistic shot at maintaining legacy status if they didn’t? Imagine the anguish of the Legacy DL Half runners.

I’m kinda hoping they do. And I think the fact that they’re doing multiple C2Cs makes me think there’s a good chance the pink C2C might be coming back eventually.

I expect this first year is partly testing the waters with Anaheim. And getting things smoothed out and nicely before trying to push for multiple race weekends. They didn’t even introduce all weekends in one go. Tink was 2012. Avengers was 2014. I can’t remember exactly first Light Side but I think 2016?

So if we keep the theme every two years introduction track we’re probably looking at someone being reintroduced in 2026.

Get things off on a good foot before trying for multiple weekends just feels like the logical step imo.

Honestly the only one that I can’t see maybe making a return right now is Star Wars unless they decide to switch Springtime Surprise back to Dark side. But who knows maybe eventually.

Avengers with the campus and having more available characters being a draw is a given and Tink with the girl vibe just feel like more likely to return if they do go for mult weekends

Yeah, that's why I specified "when available" . Basically not wanting to give any reason to not register for it when it reopens. If Legacy know they're locked in, no reason to buy CrD when it does open. They still could have acknowledged Legacy with just a designation and not given the guaranteed registration. But I'm glad they went with the traditional Legacy acknowledgement we're accustomed to. It's the least they can do after so long without West Coast races.

Would have been nice to have a DLR specific CrD. I might have maybe put out money for it. Maybe. Probably not. At least would have been nice to have the option. Oh well. I already have the day off anyways as a normal day off for general reg day so just going to hope my luck holds. Trying to grab DDD, 5k, and maybe yoga so it's going to be tough.

Yeah, PDC was only 3 years. 2015, 2016, and 2017. 2018 as we all know was announced, but then cancelled along with all other 2018 DLR races. So if they choose to still Legacy it off it returns, we have two more race weekends of it before it'll reach Legacy status. Here's hoping it and the other races return . Tink I feel has a good chance to return just because it's the sister race to Princess. But who knows
