Has there been a thread started for this yet?

My husband just signed me and him up. I am NOT a runner. I started training this week. :confused3

I would love to know if anyone else is out there training and to meet up at the race!

I'm in!!! I was there for the first two and I'll be there for each and every future DL half marathon! Honestly, its not the best half marathon out there, but its Disney and the castle medal makes it all worth it!

Where are you located/training? Run or walk?

I'm trying to talk dh into letting me do it. We have another trip planned for early December, so it's going to be hard to convince him. I hope I can!

I am debating weather or not to sign up. I am not a runner or jogger but I've heard that a 16 minute mile can be walked? Plus $100 is alot right now.

I heard that you have to run each mile under 15 or 16 (I don't remember) minutes.. And if you don't, then they ask you to stop.. I think I read that on the half marathon website.. But I could be wrong..

minute pace is the required pace. It is doable, with training, even walking. I will be competing for the third time this year. It isn't, as somebody said, a great race but the medal is amazing and Disney support is second to none. I just hope it isn't as hot this year as last. I am also glad that the race is on Sunday instead of Monday so we don't have to go home on the day of the race.

What is the latest that you can sign up?

You probably live far enough away where it won't matter, but I know last year, entry was closed to the local and neighboring county residents well before it was closed to the rest of the general public, so I ended up on a wating list. You may want to check the w.i.s.h boards and the race threads. They keep a good watch on the race entry levels and have a lot of information on training, etc.:thumbsup2

I've done this before so if you want any more information I'd be more than happy to give it.

HALF MARATHON PACING REQUIREMENTS
All athletes entering the Marathon and Half Marathon must be able to maintain a 16-minute per mile pace throughout the race, finishing the Half Marathon in three and a half (3.5) hours or less.
Anyone not able to maintain a 16-minute per mile pace will be picked up and transported to the Family Reunion area. You can be picked up at any point along the course for not maintaining a 16-minute per mile pace.

SAFETY REMINDER
For everyone's safety, baby joggers/strollers, bicycles, inline skates, skateboards, headphones, and animals will be prohibited on the course.

PROOF OF TIME
Corral placement is based on proof of time. If you believe you will finish the Half Marathon sub 2:45 hours, proof of time is required.

Acceptable forms of proof of time are either a photocopy of finisher's certificate or a print out of race results. All forms of proof of time must be from a marathon, half marathon or any race 10 miles or longer, after September 1, 2006. If you do not provide proof of time you will be placed in the last start corral.

If you are registered for the Half Marathon and did not provide proof of time, you will need to bring that proof of your estimated finish time to the Runner Relations booths after you pick up your race number and ChampionChip at the Health and Fitness Expo on Friday, August 29 or Saturday, August 30. If no proof of time is provided, you will be placed in the last start corral.
If you are a walker, please correctly mark the registration form so you may be placed in the correct corral.

Can anyone give some more info on the Family Fun Run (5K)? Is there walking on that one and is there a speed requirement? And anyone done the kids races?

I'm registered for my third Disneyland Half in August. Awaiting the bonus medal for having already done the Goofy '08 in January at WDW.

Wooooo whoooo, more BLING!

Here is a a picture of the medal from someone that posted on my forum and I added to my website.

It will be really cool to have one:banana: . Everyone better keep up the training and hope for cool weather:)

Thanks for sharing Robert!

I guess I'll post on this one too:

I am looking for someone in my area to train with becuase I have no clue how to start training for a Half Marathon.

There is an entire board devoted to training for events. It is a sub board over at the WISH boards. I am going to send this over there so all you have to do is follow the link :)

The official line is a 15 min/mile pace. The race is NOT chip timed. I believe it is the same as the 5K in Jan at WDW. It stated a 15 min pace but my DW and I took a stroll to save our legs for the Goofy. We did 17 min miles and many walkers came in after us. I think if you do 20 min miles you are i trouble but otherwise...

:welcome: DL trainees or wannabes!!
Thank you, JudyfromBoise, for sending this thread our way. We will be glad to help answer any training or DL 1/2 questions. Many of us here have done it/will be doing it.
A 16 minute pace is definitely walkable. There are lots of training programs online as well as in books..Hal Higdon, Jeff Galloway, or John Bingham. Quite a few of us never attempted anything like a half before and started with Marathoning for Mortals. If you start now, you will have time to build a base and be ready for Labor Day weekend. Hope to hear from you!
escape/Susie, where is the DL thread?

Also, check the WISH Event Calendar at the top of this board for a listing of others doing the DL 1/2. :goodvibes

It will be neat to do this as a group. As of now I am the only one I "know". DBF can't because of his bad knees. It will be good to have someone there to help keep me going.

Welcome to all of you! There are already a few threads pertaining to the 2008 DL 1/2 marathon going which you may find helpful or interesting (or at least help you figure out who all the people in bright green shirts are wandering around Anaheim labor day weekend):

Who is doing the DL 1/2:

Where to stay:

Also, I'm not sure if this question was answered yet, but the DL 1/2 requires a 16-minute mile pace to avoid being swept. I am 99% sure that the time runs from when the last runner crosses the starting line (last year, I believe there were three waves of starts...) So as long as you cross the finish within that time, you will get your medal. If, however, your chip time shows you did not have a 16-minute pace, you will not have an official time or finisher's certificate. So, it definitely can be done at a fast walk, and there are many walkers in the race. You do, however, want to also factor in time for stopping for pictures with characters (and potty breaks!) along the way!

Good luck with your training, and once again, welcome!

Thank you so much for those links! I'm really excited to meet people who are doing the DL 1/2!

Mooshu was just at Disneyland Sunday and Monday (5/18-5/19/08).

She said the weather was hovering about 100 degrees. So for those who ran the half marathon last year, prepare yourself for the same stifiling heat.

question about this - if you fall out of the 16 min pace at any point, does that count? Or is it your overall average pace for the full 13.1?
