After peeking at just a bit of the fireworks on Youtube, I am wondering...if you watch the fireworks from the hub, don't you miss all the projections that would surround you on Main Street? Is it better to be a little farther back for this show?

The same projections are on the castle, Matterhorn, IASW, and I believe on the buildings on Pirates Lair.

Yes you do. The first time we saw it was from right outside Carnation Cafe and it was so much better there than the Hub the second time. I was constantly turning around to see what was happening on the buildings. I really couldn't see the projections on the castle, too many tall people in front of me and it was really cool to be surrounded by them further back.

While the projections are shown on the castle, there are a bunch of things that pop up over the buildings on main street that do not show up at any other viewing place, I don't believe....Main Street is still the best place to view them, I feel. I also think the snow falling during the Frozen segment is better/more immersive on Main Street.

You do miss some of the actual fireworks when you look to the side on Main St to see the buildings. There is no viewing spot without some trade-off.

The Fantasmic water "fans" are being used during fireworks and a few additional fireworks are being launched from the islands.
Since many guests leave the Rivers of America area immediately after the first Fantasmic show, the area is not too crowded (by DL standards) for fireworks viewing.

We watched from the F! Area, from the hub in front of the castle, and from about halfway down Main Street. I think the Main St. spot had the best views, and that the projections showed up better on the building facades than on the castle. We weren't even sure if we wanted to try to watch them that last night, and we were actually walking down the outgoing side to leave when I noticed that there was plenty of space if we ducked under the ropes, so we snuck in and I was so happy we did! Perfect view while standing on the curb, and we got 'snowed' on for the first time there! They had the machines on at the other locations too, but the breeze carried it away before it could land. Plus, your view of the projections and fireworks are both well over everyone's heads, where it felt like the hub and castle everyone was looking straight ahead and thusly had less of a view... Having said all that, I kind of liked the old fireworks show better, where it seemed to be a montage of rides and was so sentimental that I got tears in my eyes the first time I watched it! I don't know that this show, even with it's awesome projections, can top it for me!

Funny enough, I agree with this assessment. It cracks me up that they are calling these "Disneyland Forever" because they are really all focused on the Disney movies, rather than the park itself. I think the "Remember...Dreams Come True" fireworks were actually more about Disneyland than the new ones are.

How early are people reserving there spots on main street these days, I think I'd love to watch our first viewing from there

If you are only looking to see the fireworks from Main Street, it will be very difficult. Pretty much everyone starts staking spots for PTN 2 - 3 hours before the parade. Those same people, once the parade ends, step right into Main Street for the fireworks, so it's packed full immediately after PTN ends.

In order to see the fireworks from Main Street, plan to watch PTN as well...and for that, stake a spot 2 hours prior if it's a weeknight and plan for 3 hours prior on the weekend.

As another poster said, there is a trade-off no matter where you choose to watch. We have watched it on Main St. and in the Hub. Main St. is pretty awesome as the projections are all around you. In the Hub, the projections are on the castle and are not as clear as the ones on Main St. and harder to see because of all of the people standing in front of you.
But, watching from the Hub was kinda cool because you can see the Matterhorn and the stuff they do with that during the show, and you can see Tink and Nemo much better from there.

So

So what is the normal duration of time between when PTN ends and the fireworks begin?

Thanks for your responses, 2 hours prior its, we will have flashy paint brushes and munchies to keep us entertainment, I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

If you don't care about being right up front for the parade, you can probably go around 8:30 to be in the general area, though you'll have to find a spot out of the walkway. Then after the parade, make your way to the middle of Main Street, and make sure you can see the castle and a little to the left of it.

We saw them both in the hub near the front and in the middle of main street and we really, really preferred the main street view. The fireworks are less impressive from there but the projections on the main street walls are just so amazing! Highly recommend seeing them in Main Street!

Whoa... this is crazy talk to me. IF you're wanting a prime viewing spot for PTN, I understand. But if your main concern is the fireworks, don't do this!

Hang out in the shops on Main St during PTN. When you see Mickey & Friends start to go by, get ready. As soon as the last float goes by, step out onto Main Street.

If you're only going to watch Fireworks once, Main St is the place to be. We watched it three times during our stay, once on Main Street, once by IASW, and once from our Blue Bayou F! viewing location at the Rivers of America. Main Street is by FAR the best.
