The Fantasmic water "fans" are being used during fireworks and a few additional fireworks are being launched from the islands. The same projections are on the castle, Matterhorn, IASW, and I believe on the buildings on Pirates Lair.
You do miss some of the actual fireworks when you look to the side on Main St to see the buildings. There is no viewing spot without some trade-off.
Having said all that, I kind of liked the old fireworks show better, where it seemed to be a montage of rides and was so sentimental that I got tears in my eyes the first time I watched it! I don't know that this show, even with it's awesome projections, can top it for me!
How early are people reserving there spots on main street these days, I think I'd love to watch our first viewing from there
If you are only looking to see the fireworks from Main Street, it will be very difficult. Pretty much everyone starts staking spots for PTN 2 - 3 hours before the parade. Those same people, once the parade ends, step right into Main Street for the fireworks, so it's packed full immediately after PTN ends.
In order to see the fireworks from Main Street, plan to watch PTN as well...and for that, stake a spot 2 hours prior if it's a weeknight and plan for 3 hours prior on the weekend.
Whoa... this is crazy talk to me. IF you're wanting a prime viewing spot for PTN, I understand. But if your main concern is the fireworks, don't do this!If you are only looking to see the fireworks from Main Street, it will be very difficult.
