Disneyland fire trap

Being at DL this past weekend, I can understand the complaints a little. We knew we were going on a 3 day weekend, we knew it would be busy... and trust me we know busy, we go every year from 12/26 to 1/3, but this last weekend was the worst I have ever seen. I would have hated this to be my first time! It was obvious that the crowds of this magnitude were not expected, there was barely any organization, and the little that they had came way to late so everything was already out of control. I have to agree that a lot people were being very rude, and as no one could help the situation, many people were seeming to make it worse with the I only care about me attitude. Things definitely could have gone a lot smoother with some manners or compassion for other humans.
But in contrast to my complaints...Its your attitude that makes or breaks the day! We tried to just let it go and went with the flow, and ended up having a great (crowded) weekend. you can't always help the circumstances but you can help the way you deal with them.

Sounds like the OP wasn't too prepared for their trip. Maybe they should have started posting here BEFORE the trip, so they could have learned about some of those things. Like food prices in expensive restuarants, and MM.

I don't blame people for being upset about such huge crowds, and getting stuck in a mass of people not moving. Not something I like either. Which is why I don't go in October, Spring Break and at Christmas or New Years! Gotta plan ahead!

One other thing I want to add about pushing a stroller in crowds is the people with their noses in the air that see space in front of you that looks relatively free of people, and cut right in front of you, to the point where you have to slam your own brakes on to avoid hitting them. I'm sure the look on my face gave away how frustrated I was by the fact that I was moving along at a nice pace, when that person jumped in front of me without warning. It's like merging in traffic going 30mph right in front of someone going 60mph. Arrrgh!

Whenever we get stuck in the usual sidewalk gridlock on Main Street (and I am not even talking about the post-parade crowds, just the usual crowds), we are always saying that there should be traffic signals and specific lanes for the people to walk down, just like on the road!

I have always said in just jokingly (about having traffic lanes) whenever I have been to DL in the past, trying to claw through people on Main Street. But the more I hear stories of how bad the crowds are more frequently now and how uncomfortable it makes a lot of people when they feel trapped, it seems like DLR should really think of a more effective crowd-traffic management method. Maybe they are at a loss and have no idea what to do, because if they did start putting up 'lanes' for people, it would slow down the number of people who could be flowing through Main Street at one time, and they may see that as a bad thing. They allow a certain number of people in the park at one time, and they have no way to really manage all those people in the heavily congested areas (like in Adventureland). I guess it is a lost cause.

If the foot traffic keeps increasing over the years, eventually they will be forced to try a different approach at handling it because nobody will be able to walk anywhere - Main Street or otherwise!

I think this person posted at another board too about this same story. We too have been in tight crowds where you pick your children up so they are not ripped from your arms in the crowd. We have also learned to find a place to sit and just wait out the crowds, they will die down. We have experienced this at both DL and Magic Kingdom trying to get on the boat back to the parking lot. I was seriously having a panic attack because we could not move and it got really warm standing so close. So we learned pretty quick to wait it out a bit.
I do know that Disneyland will open back stage areas in Tomorrowland and Main Street if the crowds are too bad. Crowds are just what you run into at these parks and you ever do or die I guess. It does not impede my love of any of the parks.
I am sorry they had a bad time of it and I have many friends who think I am freaky for spending so many vacations at the parks in CA and FL but oh well!!

hmm, Fire Marshall rules i think is about how big the evacuation area is. So it goes by those #'s ie, how many ppl would fit on the parade route + a few additional areas that have opened area. Also, the evacuation outpark areas as well.

I dont think packed areas is really considered into that factor... Besides, its been crazier. I have to admit that. Its busy, but not as busy as it used to be.

Probably not. Or if he is he is "lurking". Disney isn't for everybody, but if he had done his homework he would have figured a lot of stuff out. Oh well, his loss. One less person to contend with when I go.
