How strict are they about fastpass return times? It's been years since I've been to DL. We could get a fp and return hours after the end time and ride with no problem. Is that still the case?

They are definitely enforcing the times on the fastpasses now. Whether they give you a few minutes grace period would depend on the CM, but I wouldn't count on it.

the only reason they would extend the time would be if the ride shut down.. some CM's will allow you to come back after your time.... although my family was next to get on Screaming when the ride was shut down.. and they had used their fastpast , and the CM's shut the fastpast machine down also.. so they couldn't even get another one... I protested to another CM who gave them a hand written fastpast.. which they gratefully used when the ride was back up.. I normally would not have done that.. but they were so close to getting on when it shut down.. that I felt it wasn't fair that they had used their only fast past and couldn't go on the ride..

As Mom said I wouldn't count on much of a grace period at all anymore

I was at Disneyland yesterday and a couple were 5 minutes late to Space Mountain with their fast passes. The CM turned them away. So yes, they can be very strict with the time.
