Disneyland express from LAX

Just my $0.02 :rolleyes1

I used the DL Express for the first time this past February and I can easily say that I would never again use this service unless I was travelling with someone that needed to be close by to a washroom at all times.

The way my flight worked out, I landed right at the pick-up time, so I knew I would be waiting a bit for the next one. I was okay with that. Got my bags and headed out to where I should be. I had to wait about 55 minutes. During that time, tons of people gathered, waiting for the bus. About 90% of people were completely clueless, not sure where to wait, wondering if they should get on the multitude of shuttle vans that were name Disneyland Express, wondering why the bus was taking so long. I was friendly and tried to help where I could but honestly, it was exhausting after about 30 minutes. I don't know if it was the lack of signs or that people weren't prepared and didn't read the literature?

I watched about 15 or more Super Shuttle vans pull up and depart during my wait and I was wishing that I could have taken the shuttle instead.

By the time the bus actually arrived to Terminal 2 where I was waiting, it had completely filled up! Not a seat left!

After about 20 mins of loading passengers and their luggage, we were on our way. We then stopped at every single Terminal thereafter and the bus driver got out and told the people waiting that we were all full. I felt so bad for these people, most had little kids and the parents looked exhausted! There were more than a few groups that were REALLY mad. It took about 20-25 minutes by the time we actually left the airport.

I was way back near the bathroom so I don't know what the bus driver was saying to these people, I just sat near the window, watching their reactions, feeling awful for them. :sad2:

I imagine they would have to wait another hour before they were picked up by the next bus?

I was alone, attending a work conference at DLR, so the wait didn't bother me much, however, if I had had my family with me, it would have been a whole other story! And if I had been unlucky enough to have been waiting at Terminal 3 (or 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8!) instead of Terminal 2 and after waiting an hour, I was told that I would have to wait another hour for the next bus, I might have lost it too, like some of those people I saw. :crazy2:

Once we got moving, it was about 45 minutes until we neared DLR. There were no movies or anything else showing on the screens but I chatted with the lady next to me to help pass the time. We were stopped just before going under Downtown Disney and we didn't move for about 10-15 minutes. Not sure what the hold up was but it seemed very congested with traffic and pedestrians.

I thought the first stop was supposed to be DL hotel which was my stop but we went to PP first, which took about 10 minutes. By the time we got to my hotel, I literally ran off the bus, I felt like I had been stuck in there for days!

Now, I'm sure that my experience is probably not the norm, however, it was bad enough to make me not book with them again. I think this service would be hugely improved if they had buses every 30 minutes instead of every hour.

For my return, I was staying at GCH. It had been raining that day and everything was quite delayed. The bus was about 25 minutes late and then we went to the DLH and waited there for another 20 minutes.

So keep in mind, when figuring out what time you need to get that bus back to LAX, most people on that bus had cut it way too close, in my opinion! It took me about 25 minutes to get checked in and scan my bags and then another 40 minutes in line for security. Give yourself plenty of time peeps!

I will say that the bus was very comfortable and Disney-fied! The driver was courteous as well. The one big advantage they have is the bathroom on board. If you are travelling with little kids, this might come in handy.

Next time though, I will be trying SuperShuttle

FYI, these are the vans that you want to avoid!!! If you are taking the DL Express, you are taking a large bus, not a van :thumbsup2

Appreciate all the input. I'm the type that is a little paranoid about getting to the airport on time anyhow, so I give myself plenty of time. Our flight actually doesn't leave until 10:36PM, so with the cutoff time for the bus anyhow, I would give plenty of time. (Plus I hear there is an In-and-Out Burger 1/2 mile from the Airport, and I've never been to one...so I would leave extra early anyhow). I guess worse case scenario is if we get there, and just missed the bus, I can do Uber or a Taxi, etc. Coming back, I shouldn't be too rushed with such a late flight out.

I tend to call ahead (the morning of my flight), only to confirm where the nearest pick-up point is... Because I've been told that it was "right outside" my hotel, only to find out "right outside" meant up past my hotel, and another hotel, and another hotel, and then across the little 5-store-front to the ART bus stop.... Or "right outside" meant over 2 hotels and in front of Tony Roma's.

They should have info in their PDF about where the stops are.

For those that have taken the Gray Line and a Cab, which do you prefer? How consistent are the buses with their schedules?

A cab to/from LAX? There's no way I would do that. You're looking at at least $75 pre-tip if not more. I would rent a car instead, or use Karmel Shuttle.

Our flight lands at 7:06 PM in LAX and looking at the brochure, the last bus leaves at 8:00 PM. Do you think we can make it?

LAX is a bit different in layout, so I've found their luggage service to be a bit faster than many other airports, but...I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with that. I despise rushing in airports.

Be careful about other businesses trying to pick you up. It is very confusing!

That's where prepurchasing saves you, because if you mention you've prepurchased, it sends the imitators away.

Also when you ride the bus they have disney movies playing......last time we rode it was "wreck it Ralph"

I haven't taken the Express in a couple years, but we took it a few times before then, and I don't recall having a movie playing... It might not be on every bus or with every driver. Perhaps not something to *expect*.

Omg it's THAT company who copies? For fun, go to that website on the van. Wheeeeeeeee. But if you tend towards seizures from flashing lights and multicolored text, avoid it. HIlarious that THEY are copying the Express, since they are quite rude about the Express on their website!

But nooooo, don't try SS. Go with Karmel instead. SS trolls the airport if they aren't full, going around again to try for more people. Karmel has a policy against doing that. SS has tried to deny me entrance to the van because she had a reservation for one and she THOUGHT I was sitting with some kids and therefore wasn't one person. 5 minutes of conversation to convince her that I was solo and those kids weren't mine. There was a bit of a language barrier which padded the conversation time. Oh and even though I made the reservation online, which means they should have had my simple name, exactly as I spelled it, on the paper, they had some bizarre version of my name. After an HOUR on the shuttle, going up and down Harbor and Katella, they stopped right back at my hotel to load more people. :faint:

That hasn't happened with Karmel to me. I like them.

Also, SS drivers have used up to THREE mobile devices at once, while driving, in my experience. One "cricket" in the ear, one texting to dispatch, and one personal cellphone. Even after CA enacted their cellphone use laws.

Yep. Unfortunately, their drivers aren't always aware of their own stops, though. I've been told twice that they would pick me up in front of my hotel--yet, they don't pick up from Super 8, or from PVI, so I don't know what the driver was thinking! So, I always try to call if I can't access the pick-up locations online (can't see it easily from my phone) and not rely on what the driver tells me now.

About $100 without tip from LAX to PVI 18 months ago. I about had a cow when DH told me! I believe I even posted on here, because it seemed like he was being "taken for a ride" (pun intended, hee hee hee).

That's as annoying as the ART driver who wanted to ignore our stop (after the Half, so we were NOT letting him get away with it)

100 makes more sense. I get confused about the cost b/c I forget if it's the same or lower as getting to our home from SEA...apparently it's about the same. Shudder.

Kids ride free question...

This trip it will be just me and my two kids. Do I have to pre-purchase the tickets to get the kids free? Or I can walk on the day of and only pay $48 for the three of us?

We will never use their shuttle again. We have used them a couple times before. They changed to hourly pickup, we were there ahead of time, bus never showed up remotely close to the time. Then when a bus showed up it drove right by.

Finally get on a bus, we had a seat right by the front. Which provided a good view of the driver falling asleep while driving.

We called Gray line about it. Didn;t even seem to care.

From now on we will use car services and fly into SNA. Much less stressful and maximizes time at DLR

Does Disneyland have shuttles to Long Beach Airport in California?

Just in case you aren't using that as an abbreviation of Disneyland Resort Express...it's not a service run by Disneyland. It's a Grayline business, that services the resorts in the Disneyland area. It's not a part of Disney at all.

Finally get on a bus, we had a seat right by the front. Which provided a good view of the driver falling asleep while driving.

I might very well have called the police right then. Delaying the bus-full of people, including me, would be nothing compared to a freeway accident.

(daughter of a former Greyhound driver here...safety is huge with buses, and a healthy and awake bus driver is the very first part of being safe)
(falling asleep any time he sat down was the first indication that DH had major blood sugar issues...it could be vital to that driver's health that he get totally checked out)
