Disneyland Eastern Gateway preview video

I completely disagree...at least on the restaurant side. McDonalds is fighting allowing easement access directly through the back of their property to the security plaza as Disney is also proposing with all the other properties that back up to the project.

If I was McDonalds or any other restaurant I would be welcoming this with open arms and make that walkway as big as possible. Yes, you may loose a bit of existing foot traffic by the redirecting of some hotel patrons, but you will now have THOUSANDS of park guests from the garage that will have direct access to your establishments both coming into and out of the park giving them much more off site eating options upon arrival or departure.

Yeah, there will be some winners and losers with hotel location, but that has been true with every change. I think there will be may more winners than losers though.
I totally agree.

I thought I read somewhere that the Disneyland hotel was built because Disney (Walt?) was annoyed by the cheap, mom and pop motels surrounding Disneyland.

This will make the walk from the Candy Cane Inn to the front gate significantly longer. I am sure they are against this plan.
Although they are rarely mentioned in these discussions, I think they are the hardest hit by this. The other hotels on Harbor would have the ability to access the new Disney entrance on the back side of their property. Although the walking distance to the ticket turnstiles could be slightly longer, they could now offer "Disney access" without ever having to cross a busy street. Disney is moving the entrance right into their backyard.

The Candy Cane Inn would get none of this benefit. Now, besides the much longer walking distance, its guests would have to cross Harbor to get to the Disney entrance.

To follow my above post and sticking to the effect on west Harbor businesses: One way to look at this is, Disney is not just "closing off access from Harbor." Disney is "moving the park entrance" to the west side of Harbor. Because the entrance has moved, the old entrance is closed off.

But, what this does, is actually move the entrance across the street and closer to the west side Harbor businesses. There's some physical (and monetary) construction details for the back-side access to be worked out, but to me, except for the slightly longer walk, I don't see the major issue with going to the back of the property to get to the Entrance - instead of going to the front of the property and then crossing the street to get to the entrance.

We stayed at the Desert Inn in 2015 and loved how short the walk was. We are staying there again this year. But if suddenly the walk is much longer than I don't really see the benefit of this hotel anymore. (By our next trip we may have a travel trailer type camper and won't be at a hotel anyway though.) I'm thankfully this shouldn't be happening until after my June trip.

So if you stay in a hotel near the the pedestrian bridge (bottleneck bridge?) you will still have to walk back down Harbor Blvd to Disney Way to access the bridge? Does this also mean the Toy Story Parking buses will get rerouted to the new parking area?
Plans are still up in the air. We may end up with access to the new transportation hub/lot through the back of Harbor Blvd hotels. But if they can't get something worked out and the Harbor pedestrian entrance is closed, you would be forced to walk down to Disney Way.

The entire transportation hub that is currently just east of the esplanade is being moved, so Toy Story lot buses, along with ART and hotel shuttles will indeed be dropping people off at the new location.

This one issue will determine if this is good or awful for the Harbor hotels. Because it's such a no-brainer that this should be done, it makes me worry that it won't happen. It makes too much sense.

I wonder where bus transportation will drop off & pickup when the new gateway is complete. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't remember seeing that in the video.

Does anyone have any idea when this may get approved & construction will start?

I'm now thinking of staying near the Mickey & Friends parking lot to avoid this construction and any unknowns...

the buses and shuttles will be at the new transportation plaza at the east end of the new bridge. I'm not 100% sure but I believe also pickup and drop off for taxis and private vehicles.

This drawing shows the turnarounds for the busses as they would enter/leave from/to S. Manchester Ave.

This drawing was from a thread several months ago.

How is it a no brainer for the Candy Cane Inn?

This comment of mine was in reference to the bolded part of the post I quoted. This was referring to the hotels on the east side of Harbor building access to the new Hub through the back side of their property. Candy Cane Inn is not one of those hotels on the east side.

I mentioned in another post that Candy Cane Inn is one of the hotels most adversely affected by this proposed change because they don't get easy access to this new Hub.

Thanks I went back and rewatched it and that makes sense. I booked the Fairfield Inn for December and am worried about constructions and park access along Harbor now.

Ok I found where they said on Disney Parks Blog, "Guests staying in the hotels on Harbor Boulevard will be able to access the Resort without going through the Eastern Gateway." Hopefully this holds true!

So, the Disneyland Monorail popped up on the refurb calendar starting May 15. Micechat reported back in August it would close April 17 (so close :)) for a re-routing so that it doesn't interfere with the pedestrian bridge. Get your monorail rides in, folks!

Thank you for this info. Glad it's still up when I'm there next month :)

It'll be down when I get there on May 17... :( Oh well, I'm not too bummed about it. I'm more bummed about Indy, but honestly the refurb schedule (considering the current state of things) isn't too bad so far for me.

Disneyland shows it down only until June 16. One month isn't long enough to reroute in my opinion. Maybe it's not a very big reroute and it's easier/faster than I think.

Where are you seeing that? You're right -- that's almost assuredly not long enough to reroute, but I can't find anything that says how long it will be. They dodged my question on Twitter. :)

Go to Disneyland.com and search for the attraction you want to see. Then click on the map from that page. If you hover over a ride it will tell you details such as closures. I just checked and the app does not give this information. Here's the link for Monorail https://disneyland.disney.go.com/attractions/disneyland/disneyland-monorail/ just click the map.

EDIT: Change the date to May 15 and it will show you it is closed until June 16. I don't know why it doesn't show that without changing the date.
