Disneyland Eastern Gateway preview video

Yeah. It looks like quite a hike even if you park in the structure. We usually stay onsite, but when we don't we stay at Motel6 and use Uber. Depending on the distances, it may be better to continue to use Uber and use the DTD entrances.

the new garage is closer to the park entrances than the Paradise Pier Hotel and parts of the Disneyland Hotel, if you don't count the Monorail.

it is a lot farther than the trams. once this is project is finished, when I drive I will probably park at Mickey and Friends. I was really disappointed that there wasn't some type of transportation system included.

I saw some speculation that the Uber/Lyft drop off point would be at the new transportation center.

I hope that they don't decide to eliminate the tram at some point in the future.

Do we know dates of when Harbor may close? I've got reservations for this August at DI&S.

I guess I should say approximate dates.
We're going in August as well (13-19) staying at the Tropicana. I think we should be ok for this year! Have a great trip!!

I keep trying to keep tabs on this project because we stay at Red Lion and walk North up Harbor every trip. I just can't fathom them not addressing the pedestrian traffic along Harbor or not making access points for those staying at those hotels.

If this gets built and they do away with the Harbor street crossing the way it is now, I won't stay at the motels there anymore. Even with a back way to their bridge crossing. Over the past ten years, we've always stayed at one of the Disney hotels. Just tried Park vue last time we went and loved how close it was. But if that's going away, we won't stay there anymore. So if that's Disneys plan, to make it more convenient to stay at theirs, it will work on us.

This would *really* hurt the hotels/motels on Harbor that have great access to the parks right now if you had to walk in the opposite direction to join the garage crowd to go through security.

Before DCA opened those hotels didn't have that access point either. It was built when they changed things around and added DCA and Downtown Disney. I really think it will work out in the end. I don't think the walk is that much further IF they have a back access. And it will make security much better and free up land for DCA to expand. But IF they do not have a back access, then those hotels and businesses will really suffer. Supposedly the city does not want there to be a crosswalk there as it is a traffic concern.

I don't think it will affect us that much as we have a bit of a walk from Red Lion already (in most people's opinion) and we can probably just cross over towards the garage at some point, but the ones that were staying at a hotel a hop, skip, and a jump away may not want to stay there anymore, unfortunately. I just think that's really unfair to the businesses along Harbor, that's all.

I watched this again (okay, a number of times), and it looks like at 2:54 there is possibly an entry on the right (maybe an escalator or another ramp)? So maybe there will be gates below and you can access the walkway?

No plan or drawing thus far has shown an access point from Harbor Blvd. Where the security checkpoints are located, all pedestrian traffic must enter from the parking structure side, meaning unless we see a major redesign (such as moving the security checkpoint to the West side of the pedestrian bridge), all pedestrian traffic will be diverted to Katella.

Mickey & Friends sure looks great right about now.

Saw this last week. When Disney starts rerouting the Monorail, then it's pretty much a given.
Gonna be tough on us old goobers at the end of the day, walkin back to the hotels.

it is going to mean almost an extra block of walking. the pedestrian entrance will be almost a half a block east on Disney Way.

That would make sense once/if they close off the current Harbor entrance. But I wonder where the drop off would be if you told your driver you wanted to go to DTD or the DLH. I'm sure they wouldn't take you to the new Gateway and tell you to 'hike it'.

So if you stay in a hotel near the the pedestrian bridge (bottleneck bridge?) you will still have to walk back down Harbor Blvd to Disney Way to access the bridge? Does this also mean the Toy Story Parking buses will get rerouted to the new parking area?

That's what the video seems to imply. I was led to believe that the current Harbor entrance would remain open for an 'unknown period of time', but the video seems to show that that entrance would be 'sealed off' as part of the expansion.

Not necessarily. They are working on details. But the plan is to close the current crosswalk when the project is finished. But it is possible the hotels will have access to the walkway behind them and that guests will be able to access the new security area directly from their hotels.

I kind of get the hotels and businesses on Harbor Blvds not liking this.

1. Many of the hotels have been "good neighbor" hotels for years - not sure if that includes some sort of payment to Disney or not, but I'd tend to think so as not all of them have that designation.

2. They have helped hundred of thousands of visitors as they visit the park and spend their money at Disney, and a majority of them actively promote Disney. Yes, they made money from it, but they were another marketing avenue for Disney. Heck the only web cam of Disney is from one of these hotels!

3. By moving the security to behind Harbor, Disney is now moving more of the "danger" threat to this area - right by a large of number of hotels and businesses that have been supporting Disney for years.

4. If they want to provide similar ease of access to Disneyland to guests (potentially better access in some cases), they have to build the access - not clear what this entails and how much it costs (and if there will be an ongoing cost to this).

I realize building your business based on another business means you have to realize things will change - but this seems in some ways like a sucker punch to a number of business owners; especially moving the "danger" check area to be right by them.

This will decimate business at the hotels and restaurants on Harbor.

I completely disagree...at least on the restaurant side. McDonalds is fighting allowing easement access directly through the back of their property to the security plaza as Disney is also proposing with all the other properties that back up to the project.

If I was McDonalds or any other restaurant I would be welcoming this with open arms and make that walkway as big as possible. Yes, you may loose a bit of existing foot traffic by the redirecting of some hotel patrons, but you will now have THOUSANDS of park guests from the garage that will have direct access to your establishments both coming into and out of the park giving them much more off site eating options upon arrival or departure.

Yeah, there will be some winners and losers with hotel location, but that has been true with every change. I think there will be may more winners than losers though.

This will make the walk from the Candy Cane Inn to the front gate significantly longer. I am sure they are against this plan.
