Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

sharing here because I know you will understand (and I tried to share with DH who just looked at me like I was crazy...)

EVERY SINGLE ONE FIT OR WAS TOO BIG!!!

NON-PLUS side of Dress Barn!! The side I never dared to think about trying on anything before!!

Now if I have a momentary temptation I remind myself how good it feels to grab a "L" size off the rack and go put it on easily without it being the 22 or 24, I've waited sooooo long for this!!

:

Oh gosh, Amy, I have chills from reading this. Or maybe I just have the a/c cranked up too high. Anyway, this is GREAT. This is what we love to hear. I am doing the happy dance for you, truly.:banana: Thank you for telling us this (when you should be in bed...:lmao:)

Hi friends...

Donna...When you really cut back on the processed stuff...it is amazing how different things taste. Fruit tastes so sweet to me now! And water delicious!! I have found I have to really dilute crystal light because if I mix it in normal it is too sweet. I was actually thinking today I will try making big pitchers of water with sliced fruit in it for flavor instead of crystal light and see how that is.

. Looking forward to that 60# banner!!

Whoo-whoo, gf, it will look sooo good on you. I love the idea of fruit in water... I'm going to try that. Yes, I love the crystal light but I do dilute it also. Soooo true about how your taste buds do change.

I could easily have stopped at Burger King but I chose to be healthy.

Sarah

:thumbsup2

.

I did get my lazy self out and ran 2.26 miles last night (;)

How is everyone else doing?

Great!!!!!

The good: I ran 11 miles on Saturday, ate no sugar (other than what was in the daily low sugar protein bar), did weights twice.

That's gotta be a typo... wow, girl, you must be feeling bettah! :cheer2: Yea on the no sugar!!!

I'm pooped out!
This morning I got left the house at 9:30am to get to my soon-to-be-cousin-in-law's house (Daniela). From there we drove to Griffith Park and parked by the pony rides. We hiked for 2 hours!!! My thighs and calves are so SORE. I'm definitely going to be feeling this tomorrow!

It's turning out to be a great weekend!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: Good going!

I had two days off of exercise only because I had no time on Thursday and Friday was in Vegas for the day. I did do a lot of running to airplanes though! I ate some french fries and some nuts on the plane so today I made sure I did a full hour on the elliptical, level 2, at a good pace. I'm always sweatier when I haven't exercised for a day or so and finally get back to it:confused3.

Dinner challenge tonight - out with friends. Gym planned for tomorrow as well as a physical weekend of cleaning out a garage...

Keep movin' everyone!

I'm hoping to not repeat the crack of dawn posts tonight. last night was not fun and made today even worse..lol

I have the hardest time sleeping because the coughing gets worse when I lay down. Even propped up on 2 pillows I was hacking. So I came downstairs and did what every good nurse would do...completely overdosed myself on cough medicine..lol. Nurses make the worst patients BTW...anyways...I had turned down the offer for prescription cough syrup when I got seen this week because Paul had gotten some when he was sick last week, so I figured I would just use that. Well I didn't read the bottle, just took ummm 3 times what I should have and waiting for it to work. The coughing did get better (not gone though) but I started feeling really wired and couldn't sleep. About an hour later I read the bottle and realize the syrup he got had narcotics in it to help with the coughing pain. If I had taken the right amount I probably would have slept like a baby but for some reason if I'm not careful with meds and take just a bit too much, I have a weird adverse reaction usually opposite of what is desired.

Good news was, I got caught up on the DIS. Bad...didn't fall asleep till 4am and Paul had to work today so it was just me and the munchkins. I slept as much as I could on the couch but was a zombie until this afternoon.

Really really want to kick this thing. and really really miss the treadmill. =(

Amy--So good to hear from you girlfriend! I am SO sorry that you are having such a rough time. Please GET HEALTHY and do not worry about ANYTHING but getting to feeling good again. You still have plenty of time for that 5k and without your health you can't embark on any exercise program. Just take care of that body of yours and HEAL.

Thanks for sharing your shopping stories! That was so awesome to read!!! Makes it all worthwhile! YEAH!!! :woohoo: I'm sure you looked absolutely fabulous in all those clothes. You are such an attractive person and now have a fabulous bod to go with it! :cool1:

So I'm two weeks off from my 1/2 marathon and I was unable to do any training this past week. Getting sick sucks, as Amy understands way more than me. I am feeling a bit better today and hope to at least get a walk in and tomorrow or Monday will do a 60 minute run.

I am just about ready to bite the bullet and sign on the for full marathon at WDW. I know I really want to do it, because I've been thinking about it since like January 1. I am a bit reluctant because of the cost and it feels a little extravagant, but I think I will regret it if I don't. If I go, it will be without the family, because that's the only way it's financially doable. I guess I should try to find a marathon here in California, but I'm just having a hard time getting excited about Sacramento or LA like I get excited about WDW. I'm gonna "put a pin in it" and give myself some more time to mull it over. I'd like to commit by the time I finish my 1/2 marathon on June 7 - so I can begin a new training program then.

And for the QUOTE OF THE DAY
Cherish your vision; Cherish your ideals; Cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts. If you remain true to them, your world will at last be built.
James Allen

Aww thanks Jen you are awesome! I think you should go for the full!! I would if I could!! And I mean it about 2011...if I can survive and stick to my plan hopefully I can work my way up to a half and head to WDW in 2011!! That would be a blast!

sharing here because I know you will understand (and I tried to share with DH who just looked at me like I was crazy...)

I had to buy a suit for an accreditation visit last week at work, and a dress for a wedding.

Now of course, I have always HATED clothes shopping. I usually have to start way in advance, because I know I am going to have to go to several places, try on a ton, end up in tears a few times, and reluctantly buy something that I really am not thrilled with but it is the only thing that fits decently.

So this time...I had been so busy that I couldn't plan ahead. Ran from lunch and just went to the nearest shopping center due to time, and was looking to find something 2 days before the first event. I went to Dress Barn, walked in, tried to be optimistic, walked through the store picking out things I liked, entered the dressing room with an armful of size 16s, full expecting them to be too small...and EVERY SINGLE ONE FIT OR WAS TOO BIG!!!

I even got to go back and try on a bunch of 14 which fit too!! It was so much fun!! I got to pick out what I liked best out of several outfits which all fit instead of having to go with the only thing that did as I was used to.

When I was done and went to the register, I realized I had only looked at half the store, so I walked around the corner and realized that I had spent the past hour trying on clothes in the NON-PLUS side of Dress Barn!! The side I never dared to think about trying on anything before!!

Anyways..it was just such a good feeling. I've been in plus sizes for so long and hated shopping because I got so down on myself. Now I am a shopping fiend!! I've barely bought clothes because I've been dropping sizes regularly so I'm just sticking to a few things every few weeks to get through. I figure once I get to my goal weight I will go crazy shopping! But I can't go anywhere without at least trying things on. The last time we went to Target, I went straight to the clothes section. Paul called my cell after a while and I was in a dressing room..lol. Didn't need or buy anything but was just having so much fun trying on the larges!!

Sorry for the rant but I knew you would all understand. Getting these rushes is so amazing because it makes it all worth it. Now if I have a momentary temptation I remind myself how good it feels to grab a "L" size off the rack and go put it on easily without it being the 22 or 24, I've waited sooooo long for this!!

Thanks for reading!

That is soooo Awesome! Congrats! I am looking forward to that day! It has been waaayyy too long in the plus sizes.

I got home around 1pm, changed into my bathing suit and went to lay out to tan.

Right now my mom is getting changed and when she's ready we'll be on our way to my aunt's house to swim in her pool.

We might go to the beach tomorrow after church.

It's turning out to be a great weekend!

What a blast! Glad you are having such a great weekend. My uncles live not too far from Giffith Park so I have been there a couple times on my trips to visit them! Way to go with the hike!

I am doing well...not getting in as much exersize as I would like but I took a 40 minute walk down by the beach after the kids went to sleep on saturday and I did about 25 minutes of gardening sunday. I had a nice time at a friend's dinner party yesterday and today I am going to my moms for a bbq. I am bringing the turkey dogs and the low point cobbler! Last time using the frozen rhubarb as mine is growing and looking good! The weather has been great here and I hope you all are having a great, healthy, active weekend. For those who are sick I hope you feel better soon...I just started getting a sore throat last night and now it is really bugging me. Hopefully it will go away soon and not turn into anything worse! Here's to crossing fingers and hoping!:tinker:

Sarah

I ran 20 minutes (1.5 miles) yesterday and 45 minutes (almost 3.5 miles) today. I'm not keeping up with my training routine due to this flu. I'm hoping to get back on track this week, as the 1/2 marathon in the weekend after next. :headache: I'm feeling much better, just not 100%.

This long weekend hasn't been too much fun. My DH and I have both been sick, so it's just been a lot of tv watching and resting. We did clean out all the kids toys from the last 4 years and are going to try our first eBay virtual garage sale. Haven't ever sold anything on eBay before, so I hope this goes ok. Baby steps with posting our items.

Just a short week to get through....

-Jen

Hi ladies! Remember me? I'm the one who keeps falling off the wagon with a big, fat thud!

But I'm here, if you'll still have me, and I wanted to do a little catching up.....

Laurie~ I wasn't here to welcome you when you joined so I will do that now. WELCOME!! :yay: So good to see you here. I am so proud of you for trying to quit the smoking. I know you can do it.
And from one soda addict to another, keep up the great work! It's hard but you are making such wonderful changes for your health. Good job!

Jen~ I loved the Break the Chain story. Thanks for posting that.
First off, congrats on getting back to doing WW, and cutting out the sugar. Now that's impressive. I'm sorry to hear you are sick right now. Take care and I hope you feel better soon.

Also, I think you sign up for the WDW marathon. You can do it, and you deserve to do it. The other day, I actually ran. I mean, sort of. Ok, so I ran for 3 lousy minutes and felt like I was going to pass out, BUT the point is I wanted to run. I wanted to feel what it felt like to run again. I haven't done any running for at least 12 years!! Haven't even wanted to. But I was walking along and just decided I was going to start to run.
You are the one who inspired me to even want to try. That's a big deal. And who knows, I might even try running for 4 minutes next time.

Sarah~ Girlfriend, it is so good to see you here! I love your attitude and your realistic goals. I said before that I am proud of you and I mean it. It's so hard to break years worth of bad habits, like eating the cake and ice cream at a work party, and you are doing it! You are. And I know you will continue to do it until you reach the goals you've set for yourself.
Congrats on your loss so far and hang in there my friend. I'm always here for ya!

Cristabel~ I love that you are always here. Always. Good days, bad days, whatever. You never give up. You are really an inspiration to just keep at it no matter what.
Oh, and I like the Lean Cuisines myself. They are pretty good, and an easy way to keep track of everything. Keep up the good work!

Bridgette~ I'm sorry to read you are starting to feel sick. Hang in there. I know you have a lot on your plate with the move and graduating. You can do this and be healthier. I know it.

Amy~ Hey girl! Sorry to hear about your FIL. How's Paul doing?
Also I'm sorry you've been sick for so long. We really missed you at lunch the other day. Congrats on the 5 pound loss (being sick is good for one thing and one thing only, weight loss!) and you will be at the 60 pound mark probably by Friday! :cheer2:
Great story about the shopping by the way. I bet you felt like a million bucks!

Debra~ You are another one I wasn't here to welcome! I'm so glad to see you over here!!! This is such a great group, so supportive and I know whatever your goals are, you can reach them.
I hope the surgery next month goes well so you can be as active as you'd like before you know it.

Vicki~ Congrats on getting back on track after your trip. I know how hard that is. You are doing great with the running too!! Keep it up!

Donna~ It was so nice to see you again! And whatever you are doing, keep it up cause you looked great.
I wanted to say I love what you posted about thinking of food as nourishment rather than entertainment. That really hit home with me as all my life food was basically part of the entertainment.

My step dad is Filipino and at every holiday or party there was tons of food. It was the main attraction. I think it's like that for most of society these days. Holidays, BBQs, parties, whatever, they all center around food. It's hard to get past that, but it did really make me think. Thanks.

January~ I'm glad to see you are sticking with it. You got off to such a great start and I'm sure it's been frustrating to now plateau for two weeks, but I think WW will be much better for you than Atkins. Hang in there. And don't get so busy you forget to take time to pamper yourself. Miss you!

AmySue~ You still rocking those water workouts??

Callie~ Where you at girl? Still on cloud nine after your wonderful trip? :cloud9:

Katie~ How's it going for you? I hope we didn't lose you. I know how hard it is, but I know how much you want this. You can do it.

Well, hopefully that was everyone! If I missed anyone I'm sorry! Keep on keeping on! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I have been MIA for like 2 weeks now and sure enough, I gained in 2 weeks what will probably take me 2 months to lose again. Went from 210 back up to 224. :guilty: Ouch.
But I find myself back here once again. Trying once again to get back on track and accomplish something. I refuse to give up. I refuse to put back on another pound. I am once again focused on reaching 200, drinking more water, cutting down on diet soda, and just being a healthier me.

Take care WISHers! Talk to y'all later.

Well look who snuck in?? Welcome back Beth!! Of course you are always welcome here.:grouphug:

Awesome job with the run! Sounds like there is a budding runner in you. I'm serious. Just that desire to feel your blood pumping and your body exerting itself. And when the endorphins kick in...forget about it. The runners high. And you don't even have to drink any of those cocktails you don't like to get it.

So I feel I must come clean and say that I let myself have sugar this weekend. Just couldn't take any more congratulations. I think I need to have weekends off, if I can handle it. Though I don't think I handled it too well. Just that life without sweets seems so bland. But I'm still figuring this out. Can food be nourishment during the week and then entertainment on the weekend? Well let's see how easily I can get back into good eating habits after a three day weekend, and I'll tell you.

I don't know what's going to happen with WDW marathon. Let's just say, DH isn't convinced. :sad2:

OK...here's to a good healthy week!!

Take care all,
Jen

:cheer2: Yea, Beth is here!!! It is so good to see you here, was great to see you in Vegas. Thank you so much for the kind words. I didn't know your step-dad was Filipino. Is he still alive and living in Calif? I know how they love food but usually they never gain weight!

That "not as entertainment" quote was from a friend of mine who has lost weight and kept it off. It's hard to remember all the time because I am a foodie at heart. But what I do is I schedule when it's going to be entertainment - like our lunch. I'm conscious of what I'm doing and try to balance the calories out the next day.

Speaking of which - Jen, I did know a gal who lost about 40 lb with her trainer/nutritionist/bf who had her on the 6 days good, one day naughty plan. She said she didn't go hogwild on the one day but she would allow things that normally were not on her diet. So maybe for you, that will work. (added: two days would be too much though)

Anyway, if you were sick and went back on sugar, no blame there. When you're sick, it's so hard.

I ate out with friends, which always makes me not lose. I did spend some 8 hours on Sunday cleaning out the garage and 4-5 hours today on it, plus my 36 min on the elliptical today. So I'm hoping the scales will reflect how exhausted I feel!

Have a great moving week, everyone!:goodvibes

What about two days "a little bit naughty"? I think that this is where WW fits in OK. As long as I can stick to my point allotment, I can throw in a little treat here and there. Just can't go over those 35 extra points I'm given. Not that I counted this weekend... But in theory that should be how it works.

BTW...where has our little swimmer gone to?
Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. :fish:

Amy – Sorry you haven’t been feeling up to par but I am so glad you are back her posting! Hope you are 100% soon!! And I am soooo happy for you and your successes! The shopping trip story made me smile and I could just feel your excitement! You are amazing!

Jen – Wow, I didn’t realize that your ½ marathon was so close. You’ll do great! Have you decided on the WDW Marathon? I actually found myself on the Princess ½ marathon thread the other day and I am considering signing up for that…yikes…makes me have butterflies even thinking about it!

Donna – Glad you had fun in Vegas and sometimes you just have to take a little break! Glad you had fun in Vegas. We really need to do the garage here too! I still have piles of boxes that I have not even unpacked from my move from CO.:scared1:

Crystal – Keep up the great work!

Sarah – Where did you find a low point cobbler? I made a berry cobbler for a BQ yesterday but I am sure it wasn’t low points!

Beth – So glad to see you here! You can do it! And running that is great! You really should look at the C25K program because you do start out with short runs and walk breaks and before you know it you’ll be running and believe me if I can do it YOU can do it!! :cheer2:

As for me this weekend was a challenge and I did not eat very good but I accounted for every bite of food I put into my mouth…ugh…I still have 10 weekly points left, (I usually have 20 or more but I guess that is what they are for, to use when you have weeks like this) and I have 8 activity points so far but really was eye opening to put down everything I ate at the BQ as well as at the Mexican food restaurant the night before including margaritas!

I did run 3.5 miles on Sat. and I’ll run again tomorrow, hopefully another 3.5 miles but at least 3.1 miles regardless.

We leave for Vancouver on Friday so I am not sure how well I’ll do with eating there either but I’ll continue to keep track of my points regardless and I want to run at least once while we’re there. It is really fun to run in a new place!

I hope you all had a good weekend and wishing you all a great short week!:grouphug:

Thanks for the welcome back. :goodvibes I'm not sure about the budding runner part though. :rotfl: I really looked like I could pass out. :lmao: My sister in law ran the LA marathon yesterday and it just boggles my mind. All you runners boggle my mind!! lol

About the sugar, well, I say good for you. I know I am a bad influence. I really am. But seriously, life is too short to deprive ourselves some simple treats now and then. It's like that saying, "Life is short, eat dessert first."

I do like the thought of over all viewing food as nourishment, but come on, sometimes you just want a slice of mom's homemade pie, or a creamy slice of cheesecake, you know. (sorry for making anyone drool!!!!)
But as long as those items are not part of a daily diet then I personally don't see the problem.

I know for myself I will never even attempt to stay away from sugar. :rotfl: I'd rather find ways to work it into my calorie count and make smart choices about it, and when I do eat something sweet make sure it's a real treat that is delicious and worth the calories. I don't know. Just my take on it.

Oh, one more thing, about the marathon..........remember, it's easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission. Just sign up!! :cheer2:
(Told ya, I'm a bad influence.)

Thanks Donna! It's nice to be back. I really did miss y'all!

Yes, my step dad is Filipino. He and my mom married when I was 7. Sadly, we were never close. I barely tolerated him most of the time growing up, and now quite frankly I could care less if I ever speak with him. I don't hate him or anything, we just never became close.

But I grew up with all my relatives and cousins being Filipino and I was close to my cousins. And you are right, none of them were really overweight. Maybe a few pounds but nothing major. It's not fair!! And my half brother is one of those who can eat all day long and he's a stick.

I like your comment about scheduling times when food is entertainment, like at parties or get togethers like we did. It's unavoidable at times. I just need to remind myself that on a daily basis and try to change the way I view it every day.

Beth – So glad to see you here! You can do it! And running that is great! You really should look at the C25K program because you do start out with short runs and walk breaks and before you know it you’ll be running and believe me if I can do it YOU can do it!! :cheer2:

Thanks! I am going to look into the C25K program. I have once before but just sort of blew it off. :sad2: I need to think of it more seriously. It seems to start out so slowly. 60 seconds of jogging and then 90 seconds of walking? How does that help? But then again, I still probably won't be able to handle even that much. :rotfl2:

Good job on being accountable for everything you ate!! That's a huge deal right there. And good job on running. :cheer2:

In case I forget to tell you between now and Friday, have a nice time in Vancouver. I'm jealous. ;)

Have a wonderful week ladies!! It's a nice short one. :thumbsup2

I'm off to walk the twins to school, and then when I get back I will do my walking. I have to do it before I do anything else or I'll just end up skipping it. I've still got that whole love/hate thing with exercise. :rolleyes1

Later!!

Do it! Do it! Do it!

I thought the same thing...but I swear the first few times that minute seemed soooooooo long!! I'm stuck at week 3 since I can't breathe when I take more than a few steps right now...so you have time to catch up!! It's only 30 minutes 3 times a week...you can do that! And you have plenty of time to get through the program before we go to the 5k! (and you ARE going!!).

you can do it~!:cheer2:

Vancouver, WA or Vancouver, BC? I am right next to BC! Have fun!

I have been doing pretty well...using some of my flex points this week with all the dinner parties and bbq's so I don't know how that will affect me on the scale. Also, it is week two which is notoriously bad. I have a pretty bad cold right now but the medicine is making me fell ok.

Beth, it is so good to see you back on here! And those extra pounds will be gone before you know it! Way to go on the run! For someone who doesn't normally run, 3 minutes is great! I remember feeling so proud the first time I did that! I need to get back with the exersize but my time is just not my own lately! Hopefully it will get better soon.

I feel like my pants are looser today. Maybe it is just my imagination, but even if it is, it feels good...like I am accomplishing something.

I hope you all have a great op day and don't forget to drink your water! Chug Chug!

Sarah

Hi Sarah!

I'll be in Vancouver BC. I've never been and I can't wait to visit! I've heard it is a beautiful city. Any suggested must do's? DBF will be coming with me for the weekend and then I have to work on Monday so we'll have half a day Friday, all day Sat. and half a day Sunday until he flies back to LA.

I've used more of my flex points this week than I have in the past and I am thinking it might affect my weight loss but I'm prepared for not a great weight loss week and I will be happy to just not gain!

I feel like my pants are looser today. Maybe it is just my imagination, but even if it is, it feels good...like I am accomplishing something.

I hope you all have a great op day and don't forget to drink your water! Chug Chug!

:rotfl2:

Yes, do the C25k!!:cheer2:

There's a couple reasons it's important to start out slowly with the running. First, cardiovascularly I think you may find the 60 seconds is more difficult than it seems. Also, you need to build up your muscles in your legs. Running involves quite a bit of pounding on those legs and it takes time to build up the strength to support that. It was quite common for me to feel sore or feel a little tweak here or there when I started running. Still happens now, but not as regularly. Your tearing down muscles and rebuilding them stronger (someone who understands sports physiology, please jump in here!). Basically, it's really important not just to challenge yourself, but then to recover through walking and then with those built in rest days.

If you do take on the running C25K (which you ABSOLUTELY should), you really have to get yourself fitted with some good running shoes. Without them you can injure yourself.

Oh you need to stretch after your exercises. That's a good idea for walking, too.

I have been doing pretty well...using some of my flex points this week with all the dinner parties and bbq's so I don't know how that will affect me on the scale. Also, it is week two which is notoriously bad. I have a pretty bad cold right now but the medicine is making me fell ok.

Congrats on the looser pants!

I'm so frustrated. I'm feeling worse again today. And my DH is home sick, too.

I will try to get in a run regardless. And I'm staying away from those sugary treats.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Do not brood over your past mistakes and failures as this will only fill your mind with grief, regret and depression. Do not repeat them in the future.

I hope you have a great time! Vancouver Island is a blast! Or a day trip to Victoria to see Buchart gardens would be fun. I haven't been up in a very long time but I remember the aquarium was good and there is a park with a bridge that is supposed to be great (haven't been there since elementary school! Might be called Capilano suspension bridge?).

Thanks! Capilano Bridge was suggested by a coworker from the UK who lived there for 5 years and also Stanley Park. We aren't planning to rent a car but what I've read public transpertation will work for what we want to do...really we are easy going and will have fun exploring!

I hope it is great for you. I think Tracy lives in Vancouver. She is only a bit away from me and we have yet to get together though we are going to try this summer. I don't have any plans yet for the weekend. If you would like company for a meal let me know, but don't feel like you have to. I know that sometimes it is just nice to be away with a loved one.
