Disneyland disappointment?

In short, slow is not "the DLR way".

I agree. Slow is not how I would describe our trips to DLR. We've had to slow down a little now that we have DS but we used to just go, go, go. The great thing about DLR is that you can tour it how you want to. If you want to do commando, go for it! If you want to go slower and enjoy the history, details, etc - that's great too!

Some people have commented that DLR is more relaxed than WDW but i think that refers more to the fact that you don't need to do as much planning.

Disneyland/California Adventure pack in most of the major rides you find in 4 parks at WDW into 2 parks. Most of the well known rides are there and they're building some great new attractions to open next year.

Indiana Jones is a great ride not found at WDW. Space Mountain and Pirates are far better at DL.

There are more attractions at DL than at MK and Fantasyland at DL has much better theming.

At Holloween time DL transforms Haunted Mansion into Nightmare Before Christmast which is awesome. Space Mountain is now rethemed as Ghost Galaxy during October.

DLR has far easier parkhopping!! Just a few minute walk between parks. Downtown Disney is also just a few minutes walk away or a monorail ride from DL. Everything is right there in one spot. Great to go out of the parks, grab lunch at DTD and return back to the park minutes away, no waiting for buses etc.

We're DLR vets but have visited WDW 4 times for 1 week trips each. Have a DLR trip planned next week and a WDW trip planned for the fall. Love both but they are different experiences!

Disneyland has Farley the Fiddler (don't miss), Billy Hill and the Hillbillies (don't miss) and the Miner 49ers (don't miss if you like string bands, eclectic but weighted towards bluegrass). The atmosphere entertainment is part of Disneyland's charm, whether you watch the groups I have already mentioned or the Dapper Dans, the Strawhatters, the Royal Street Bachelors, The Jambalaya Jazz Band, The Laughingstock Company, Operation Playtime, the shows at the Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue --- and on and on.

The kids might not take to all of these, but they will love Farley, and they will have a good time at Big Thunder Ranch BBQ (the food is great, and all you can eat).

You're SOOOOOO right! Thanks for pointing that out!:thumbsup2:goodvibes

And you know, now that I think about it, my first REAL issue with Disneyland is location. I AM NOT a fan of flying. I avoid it whenever possible. We always drive from NJ to , but Disneyland represents my first plane ride in 5 years. I'm not happy about that (and by not happy I mean the thought of it makes my hands shake) and it's starting my negative thinking. I have to focus on the fun!

Ativan 1mg, P.O. the night before and 1 hour before your flight, it will go much easier.

Thanks veryone for all the great opinions & info:disrocks:. We are still trying to decide. I know when our trip will be now (November), just gotta decide where we"re going!
I was going to suggest seeing Aladdin in DCA, but I believe it will be gone by then. Ditto on seeing a baseball game - off season. Have a great time anyway! :wizard:

I grew up going to DL and have visited WDW 3 times now. The biggest difference for be between DL and WDW, is the size and the food. WDW hands down has better/more food locations. I love Storytellers, Napa Rose and Steakhouse 55 at DLR. I also love Hungry Bear and Pizza Port (within DL).

And then the size DL is a lot smaller, but then again it saves your feet from all that walking. There is a nice easy between the two parks, no busses or monorail needed. Which is nice.

They say there are more attractions with in DL then MK, so you wont be shorted in that department. I really do enjoy sitting and watching people. Coke Corner is a great place to do that. There are others too, but I really like it at Coke Corner.

I think you will see there is a difference, but you will be happy you came. Its a great resort.
