Disneyland crowds 9/29 -10/5

We have other planned activities for 9/28, 10/1 and 10/4. I'm buying the City Pass so this is my plan based on the web site:

09/29 Sat Universal
09/30 Sun Universal
10/02 Tue Disneyland “Ghost Town”
10/03 Wed Disneyland “Ghost Town”
10/05 Fri Disneyland “Hey, It’s alright”

Basic anaysis, often wrong.


When you go to Universal it will be packed because it's the weekend. The weekdays at Disneyland REsrot totally fine. Friday on thier scale is average. It's fine at 1pm, it's packed by 5pm, forget about it from 5:30 to 12am. Friday will host a Halloween Party. This may be something you want to take part in. It has big crowds because it's a party.

You may want to go to DLR on Saturday or Sunday, the only days to see Fantasmic and Fireworks.


Are you going to buy your CityPass at USH to get two days at USH?

Universal isn't going to be anywhere near packed on a September weekend. It will be quite pleasant, and you don't need two days at all. You might not even need a full day.

i saw another site that said Monday Columbus day is one of the best days of the year to go since it typically has extended hours and multiple F/WOC but with lower crowds than a typical weekend since most of the state doesn't have it off.

This is great, that's exactly when I'll be there. My state, Hawaii, doesn't get it off either, but it's a Federal Holiday so I get it and a long week-end is a great time for a Disneyland visit

Were coming from Kauai and will be there the same dates....doing Universal on 9/30 only though....hoping that is also not too crowded at both DLR and Universal...we did Universal on the Sunday before Memorial Day a couple of years ago and it was super crowded....we chose Fall Break (for HI) over the Christmas Break because we were hoping the crowds were going to be smaller....with Cars Land opening who knows what the crowds will be...BTW we are dong MHP on 10/2!!!!

Yes, buying City Pass at USH.

Since there is less attractions to see at Universal than Disneyland (we will be skipping roller coaster and getting wet rides too), I thought it would be better to go at a busy Universal than Disneyland.

I'll check with the wife about the fireworks. I would like to see them too but my experience with the ones at WDW in Florida, is they are not worth the hours it takes to get out of the park when they are over. Maybe it's different at DLR?

I'll check with the wife about the fireworks. I would like to see them too but my experience with the ones at WDW in Florida, is they are not worth the hours it takes to get out of the park when they are over. Maybe it's different at DLR?

My mom often comes into the park only for fireworks. My dad takes her back to the room and returns to close out the parks with the girls and I. We normally wait about 5 minutes or so after the fireworks are over before attempting to begin the journey to our various destinations (we watch from the flagpole area, not the street - so much easier for my mom to see the fireworks there from her wheelchair). I guess it depends on the night and how crowded the park is, but we haven't experienced the unmoving crowd after fireworks.

We found Is it Packed? to be extremely inaccurate! When we were there in May, it had said it was supposed to be a Ghost Town for our entire trip...let's just say it was PACKED!! As in like hour long waits for Indy, Space, Splash, etc!! oiy! I would never plan my trip using that site EVER again! Something I find interesting about their site too, is that they put "It's packed" for every weekend day, and yes, while weekends are generally busier than weekdays, if you checkout the thread talking about Saturdays being the day to go to the parks, it sounds like, due to AP blockouts, Saturdays have been downright awesome! Some people have even said that certain weekdays have been much busier than Saturdays!! Go figure!

Some people have had luck with touringplans.com, BUT apparently they are not always accurate either, and especially not now, as Carsland just opened. It seems to be a shot in the dark as to what crowds will be like right now. One thing we DID have a ton of luck with two years ago was RIdemax. It's a software program you enter the attractions you want to do in. It computes them all and then spits out the order and times your should do them in to avoid cowds/lines. It REALLY works, even when it is super-busy!!! The neat thing about it too, is that we found that if you are in the parks when it is not busy, you can choose to not use it, just go commando and do whatever, but then if it gets busier later on, you can pull the plan out and just look at the time to see what you should do next for short lines. They are always right on the money with this! It's an awesome resource!
