I am scanning in our family photos for digital copies and I'm laughing my rear end off at how small the castle is at Disneyland. It's so small you have too look for it from the opposite end of Main Street.

I loved it the original but it was a shock when we walked in at saw that tiny castle after years of visits to WDW.

I was once told to think not of the castle as your focal point, but rather the Matterhorn. It is much more impressive!

The small castle was a bit shocking to me as well the first time I went to DL. It seemed so quaint. However, one only has to ride the much-superior POTC or Space Mountain to realize that DL has things that put MK to shame as well!

I agree, as I said I did enjoy it. I loved Pirates(I don't know if I would call Space Mountain Superior) and many of the other attractions. I did like the quaintness of it, and it wasn't crowded at all when we were there so that helped add to the enjoyment.

I really don't care about the size of the castle, I care that DLR remains a top quality experience. I love everything about the parks: easy to hop back and forth, easy access to DTD, fabulous attractions, and no FP+!

I agree. I'd love to visit Disneyland one day- everything about it seems so magical that the size of the castle doesn't really matter to me ;)

I don't know if I would call Space Mountain Superior....

Yeah, I am kinda torn on that one. The popular opinion is that DL version is much better. Personally, while I agree it is a better roller coaster, I like the theming and queue of the MK version much better. My last DL trip though I was starting to see the better aspects of it there.

I kinda like the differences between both. I didn't think that I would be saying this, after years and years of WDW trips... But I/We actually enjoyed it just as much in some aspects & even more in some others..:confused3

Kinda makes you wonder why they don't recreate the same exact castle, only make it bigger. After all.... "They're never done adding to the magic."

I don't think of the castle as small. I think of it as Walt's. It is the castle that he built and loved, the only one he saw and walked through. That alone makes it special, regardless of actual size. To me, DL isn't about "bigger" or "best" or "better"; it was and is Walt's park. The other parks have special things, too, but none of them can claim that.

Like I have said before, it isn't size that matters, it's how you work it.

The way I view it is that all the castles fit the parks they are in as far as to their sixes and theming. I wouldn't want to see Sleeping Beauty Castle at WDW or the other parks just as I wouldn't want to see any of the other castles at Disneyland. That way all the castles get to be unique in their own ways. I love all their differences. Just as I love how all the parks are different from each other, yet still have some of the same rides, such as IASW.

They can't change the castle. There'd be riots! The reasoning behind it and all the thought that went into it (look up the paintings they have hanging in the dream suite)..there's just no way. I adore that castle. I haven't been to MK but the huge castle weirds me out a bit. It's probably what you get used to.

The castle was made small on purpose because Walt didn't want it to intimidate the kids. He wanted them to feel like it was THEIR castle. I love it. And I think it is the perfect size!

When I first saw the DL castle, I was a little disappointed too. I thought it would be bigger than what it is, but then again looking at it from a kid's perspective, it's perfect. Then it made me sad that I wasn't able to experience looking at it as a small kid to appreciate it better. Lols, but it's a beautiful castle nonetheless.

Hey, at least the Disneyland Castle isn't just a pretty face; it is a "dark ride" (well, dark walk) of it's own...with story, effects and interactivity. You actually get to walk throughout the castle.

You used to be wander up into the parapets at WDW, but I don't remember when that went away.
