Disneyland CP anyone?

Hi. I'm Jess and I have applied for the Disneyland CP program for fall. I've applied, faxed, interviewed, and am now in the waiting process.

I find this thread very interesting.

I think with Disneyland or WDW, as with any job, you get back what you put in. If you have a positive outlook, remain cheerful and open, I believe you'll generally have a positive experience.

DLR CP Mom, I'm really glad you're daughter is having a good time in her program. I think it's unfortunate that other people have not had similarly positive experiences regarding the CP in Anaheim, and I hope that rumors or bad experiences of other people will not keep someone from signing up if thats what they really want to do.

Anyway, you can't blame Disney for wanting to employ Cheap Labor- why keep employees for many years and have to continue paying them more and more every year, when you can have a constant incoming and outgoing source of labor that isn't likely to stay longer than six months? Though in the long run the CP pool is much smaller than the general staff. It's a great experience for students like me.

I chose Disneyland because it's a lot different than the WDW program- I'm a bit older than your standard CP fare, and I have a lot of friends who live in SoCal- if I get accepted, I plan to make the best out of my time there.

My daughter began the program in January. The first week, she had 10 hours of work. The second week she had 20 hours. She never once had more than 25 hours a week, and most weeks, she had between 10 - 15 hours. She would dress, go to work, and be sent home due to overscheduling or "low attendance". Her rent was $159.00 a week. Her check was only ONCE enough to make rent. Most checks she made $90.00 or less. She dipped into her savings every week to make rent, not to mention food. There was no money to eat out or buy a single thing. You are not promised 30 hours minimum as you are in World.

The apartment she was in was a dry apartment. However, kids were on the patio, right outside their window (the girls were "lucky" enough to get the floor right on the patio) where kids stayed up all night drinking and smoking. When this was reported to management, they said there was nothing they could do about it, even though they claim they will kick you out of the program for these things. One day, she heard noises coming from the window, only to see a couple having sex. No reason for that since they have rooms.

Finally, we had major apartment problems. Their bathroom was mold infested, due to a leak from an apartment 3 floors above them. It had to be blocked off with large sheets of plastic and BIOHAZARD signs plastered all over it. They took 5 weeks to fix the bathroom. Housing promised the girls it would be fixed in a week, then it was 2 weeks, then it was TOMORROW! I promise! Tomorrow! Just be honest, housing. Just be honest and say, it's gonna take time and we are not giving you a break on rent and we hope you don't have severe asthma or allergies and just share a bathroom with 4 girls even though you are paying more than $2500.00 a month collectively for this apartment!

I could go on. Am I negative? Or just telling facts that happened? You decide. Doesn't hurt my feelings if you think facts are negative.

This doesn't even count the managers who don't train the CP kids and expect them to just learn by osmosis. The cast members were rude to guests and co-workers alike. Where are the managers to ensure quality customer service? One cast member made a comment that deserved a call to a manager. That manager NEVER returned the phone call. Sad.

Finally, my daughter, along with two roommates decided enough was enough. No hours, no money, no sleep (due to the parties outside at all hours), no bathroom for $636.00 each girl per month... crazy.

When my daughter called housing to tell them, the young man told her he was disappointed in her and berated her. You can bet I confronted this young man when we arrived to pick her up. I told him that I was disappointed in Disney for not fixing problems that were brought to their attention. So three girls left that day, and countless others have texted each other and left for these and many other reasons.

The only reason I am posting today is that my daughter got a call today from Disney asking how they could improve the program and would she consider coming back if they made improvements, even though the young man ( I won't name him) in housing told her that she was forever "unhirable" or whatever the status is. Today, they were begging her to come back. They merely want the cheap labor.

Bottom line - everyone has different experiences. I say yippee to those that have positive experiences. Do you think I didn't want that with all of my heart for my daughter? But go in with open eyes. And had I seen a post like this, I would have been better prepared (take a lot of saved money with you, ear plugs to sleep, don't expect Disney to do what they say in a "dry" apartment.) Make sure you REALLY want this because it's going to take everything within you to make it all the way through the program. My daughter gave up a steady job, making good money and benefits to pursue this dream that turned out to be a nightmare.

^As far as the housing, I'm not staying with Disney's, and there's cheaper apartments around anyway, so hopefully that'll cut down the nightmares dramatically haha. Might I ask what role your daughter was? Because I know certain roles do have bigger issues with getting hours than others...

I have been accepted to the program this fall and I'm trying to get more information on the living arrangements. I would like to know what the physical address of the apartments are and how to get from there to Disneyland if they are not close to the parks. Any information on apartments will be helpful. Thanks!

I believe the two apartment complexes they use are The Broadway Arms and The Carnagie Plaza.

Here is the website. It's only about five miles, I guess, from the park.

It's (all one word but I can't post links here yet, so work with me)

thepromenadeatanaheim dot com.

awesome. Hopefully I get accepted even though I applied kind of late, and I'll see you there!
