Okay. For those of you who went to WDW during the 25th aniversary, you had to go through the pain of seeing Cinderella's caslte look like a giant cake. Although it did look good to eat, it was just dumb looking. Now, with the 50th Celebration I think they did a good job on Cinderella's castle this time, the mirror on the front, Peter and Wendy flying around the top spire, very nice. But over in California, in my opinion it don't look too good.

When they started out decorating Sleeping Beauty's Castle, painting gold trim on it, it looked very nice. Just add a little bit of gold garlend, a cool thing in the fornt and maybe some gold charecters like Cindy's it would have been fine. But then when they added the huge crowns, and over sized decorations for the castle, it just went down hill form there. Let's start with the crowns.

The crowns are too over powering, the castle is too small for them, and in generel, I just don't think they look good. It's a good idea having five crowns for the first five decades, but they need some work.

Then the huge Mickey head on the front. Why couldn't they have done something cool like the mirror on Cindy's castle? It's just a gold Mickey. Nothing special.

The huge flags hanging in front and on the walls of the castle. They are also too big, and a little garish. They look like the size for Cindy's castle, even there they might have looked wrong. Again, they are just too over powering.

So, all in all. I think ti jsut looks way too tacky. The castle is ver small and quaint, and the decorations are way too big, and they jsut don't look good. I don't know maybe I'm worng, but I know a person that works for the Disney Archives who thiks the caslte doesn't look good either.

Here are some pictures to help you understand.

So, to sum it up. I just thik they over did it. Like if you put to many decorations on your Christmas tree it looks dumb. Any one agree with me on this?

I'm sorry, but I totally disagree with you. The pepto-bismol pink monstrosity that was Cinderella's castle for WDW's 25th was the worst idea I think I've ever seen. Tacky doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about that thing.

Sleeping Beauty castle, by contrast, is done much more tastefully and I think it looks really pretty. It seems to been more about enhancing the existing structure rather than "transforming" it completely, which was the case before. I don't think there's anything garish or overblown about it at all. I personally think it was a much smarter way to go as opposed to, say, painting the whole thing gold. Yeeech.

Yes, I do agree with you on painting the whole castle gold, wich was one of their ideas, gold being the 50th wedding aniversary present. Don't get me wrong though, I am a huge Disney fan, I hope my post didn't imply that I'm not. I just think the castle was a little over done. Too much salt on the steak. You know what I mean? I think that the Imagineers are very talented, and like some one said, they are known for goin all out during celebrations, and do it well, but the castle just doesn't look good to me. I think that is one of the very few mistakes they've made.

Since I'm an AP holder and visit often, I got to watch the castle transform from a so faded pink that most people thought it was white castle, to the beautiful castle that we see now. I think it looks great. As they took down the tarps that covered it while they were repainting it, a third at a time, I was awestruck by the beautiful paint job. On May 5, when I first saw the gold crowns, I was awestruck again. I think they did a perfect job on it.

I thought the Castle looks absolutely beautiful! No where near a pink nightmare. As another poster said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I have only seen pictures of Sleeping Beauty's Castle (will see it in person on Thursday, yippee!) and I think it looks beautiful. But then I am one of those "more is more" kind of gals that likes to put so much stuff on her Christmas tree if almost falls over! On the other hand, I think Cinderella's Castle doesn't look nearly as nice. That thing is so huge it doesn't need any help looking spectacular. I think its just a matter of taste. I'm just happy Disneyland got the much needed TLC it deserves!

P.S. I just looked at the links and I don't think the current Sleeping Beauty's Castle can be compared to the birthday castle. SB's is still a castle with the original detail and architecture enhanced and dressed up. The cake castle looked like Candyland on acid.

When I first saw the castle, I thought it was QUITE pink (though not quite as pink as the cake castle). We were just at the park the other week, and in fact it looks pretty nice. Not sure about the crowns, but it's certainly not hideous. We liked it.
