Does anyone have any books about Disneyland they can recommend? Ones that describe the rides, etc? We are surprising 8 yo dd with a trip in Nov. I would love to have something for her to look at on the plane to get her excited and help her decided what all she wants to do.
Thanks!

I don't have it but I know there is a book on hidden mickeys. Maybe she would like to find them while you are there? Both my DD's love to look for hidden mickeys. (I should probably buy the book. LOL)

There is a book on Hidden Mickeys. I got it on Amazon. It's size reminds me of a Disney guide map. It has a yellow cover. I also saw it for sale at Disneyland.

For kids, the Birnbaum guides are great! They are a lot more kid-friendly than the adult guides. They've got lots of pictures and a description of every ride that is geared toward kids. I totally love the Unofficial Guide for planning purposes, but it's very dense and has hardly any pictures, so my DD is completely uninterested in it. But she loves looking at the pics in the Birnbaum!

Here's a link to it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Birnbaums-Disneyland-Birnbaum-travel-guides/dp/142315228X

One other thing that is great is to watch Disneyland videos on You Tube. You can see a ride-through of just about every ride, which is great for prepping kids so they'll know what to expect - particularly on the scary rides.

Have a great trip!

My kids absolutely love the park maps! They love looking & studying them while we are in the parks and even after we get home. I always bring home extras for them to look at in between trips.

Maybe you could if someone on the boards is either there now or going soon and can mail some to you before you leave?

Get the Disneyland Walk-through app if you have an iPad.
Might be available for other tablets too.

I was just looking into books, but more about history, etc. The app, however, looks great!

Thanks! These books all look great. I forgot about the Birnbaum's. We had that one for our WDW trip a few years ago and she loved it even when she couldn't read. That app looks awesome. Maybe I can talk DH into sharing his ipad on the plane!

Another vote for Birnbaum :thumbsup2 Way better for kids than the Unofficial Guide. The pictures get me excited, and the maps are awesome and colorful. And when we bought one a few years ago they had a 20% off coupon in the back for any Disney souvenir shop. We used ours at World of Disney in DTD. Don't know if they still have the coupon or not but take a look.

So this idea is not a book but it really will give her an idea of what Disneyland is like. Go onto YouTube and watch videos of the different Disneyland rides. It is a great way for a kid to see what each of them is like and what to expect. My son was 5 when we first went and I showed several of them to him and he got all excited and couldn't wait to try the ride when we got there.

I love the Unofficial Guide and have used it for both DLR and WDW.

I agree with both of the posters about the Unofficial Guide series. I actually purchased one off Amazon before our DL trip last year. You could also check out your local library for guidebooks so you can save some money for your trip. :)

Has anyone seen the new official guide yet? I know it's only been available for a few days.

I watch a lot of Adam Rucker's (ajruck) Disneyland videos on YouTube. His Carsland preview was awesome! I'm super excited for RSR--more than I already was!
