Disneyland Resort has announced that the Hungry Bear Restaurant in Critter Country at Disneyland Park will soon become the Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree!

On the menu will be regional barbecue dishes that the Country Bears discovered while they were on tour. Guests will be able to dine “while foot-stompin’ and finger-snappin’ to the Country Bears’ greatest hits!”

Disneyland says more details about the restaurant’s transformation — including an opening date — are coming soon.

What do you all think about this?

Kind of mixed. I loved the burgers and chicken sandwich there. Disneyland does not have the Country Bears anymore...over 20 years it has been gone. I will have to see the menu. The BBQ dishes were served last at the River Belle and those dishes are now gone.

I haven't eaten at the Hungry Bear since 1999 because the burgers were pretty gross. This might give me incentive to try it again.

Wish they would install a audio-animatronic show there as well. I miss the Hungry Bears and always thought that if they updated it it would rejuvenate for a new generation. I guess they technically did this in WDW MK but my idea would have been to use modern day country songs.

I'm reserving judgement for now. But if this is going to turn into another 'all you can eat' $70 pp dining 'experience' (ie a 'character meal') I'm going to be upset. It's getting to the point where it's hard to find a 'regular' place with an a la carte menu.

I'm also going to be upset if they do away with any of the gluten free/allergy friendly options and not provide equal replacement offerings. Again, it's getting harder and harder to find good choices for those options at DLR. HB had excellent fresh cooked burgers and fries that were GF. And as any Celiac knows, GF fries are a real treat!

If they're going to change to BBQ and just pipe in music, I'm good with that. BTRBBQ was and Woody's Roundup (WDW) is all pretty much GF. I can still get a good burger & fries at Smokejumpers.

I hope it is an a la carte menu. The burgers were great there. I love Smokejumpers too. Hopefully they will keep the burgers and chicken sandwich on the menu.

I too, thought of Big Thunder Ranch when I saw mention of BBQ. Something like that would be great.

Great…another place I can’t eat at Disneyland! I loved the burgers and they had the best fries in the park…always hot, never ever greasy.

God, whatever happens…please don’t let them take my Mickey beignets!!!!! I’ll be left with nothing!

"BBQ" doesn't just mean ribs and chicken. Hot dogs and hamburgers are often part of barbecue meal. So unless Disney has said they're dropping the burgers at Hungry Bear, I wouldn't panic yet.

Uhhh...not in the South! If you say "barbecue" you mean slow-cooked, smoked meats, typically pork ribs or shoulder, or briskit, and maybe also smoked sausage or even bologna. Hamburgers and hot dogs do not a barbecue make.

I hope the restaurant though remains a quick service, maybe something like Cosmic Rays at WDW with a simple animatronic show. It'd be great if the Country Bears show was still there.

Agreed but in most places in America, a barbecue means hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken. I suspect the new menu will be a mix and a compromise of the "bbq" definitions

I was thinking the same thing. How does BBQ not include hamburgers? I'm thinking they will add things like pulled pork and brisket sandwiches and maybe start putting coleslaw & beans as sides.

I wonder if they are going to keep calling the area Critter Country or if they are going to integrate it with NOS. Southern BBQ would fit into NOS.

A BBQ and barbecue mean different things when I hear them. Someone having a BBQ means hamburgers & hot dogs. Having barbeque, to me a least, I am thinking grilled/smoked meat with some type of sauce.
