I was lucky enough to go to Disneyland 90's Nite on Thursday.
Here is a mini Review and pros and Cons of these events
If you like getting pictures with Characters this event can kinda be for you but also because of how its run might also be hard to get more then a few photos with characters. My advice is for sure find where the must see character is you want to get a photo with and at the latest 8:30 PM get in line for them. Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers line was already filled up by 8:45 an you could wait but it would be almost an hour and a half to meet them because of character breaks.
The first thing I did for the event was around 6 PM, I was lucky enough to want to come and see the area and.....it was open. No one told us the area would be open at 6 PM (event starts at 9 PM) but I got lucky and got to see the characters I wanted but also had to wait in line 3 times. The First time Darkwing Duck left and the Ducktales characters came out, so I got back in line and then took a photo op with the Begal boys but this was an "exit" only so I had to get back in line for a third time and got my picture with Darkwing Duck.
So this is where I will both praise Disney and also wish they could do better. You have this area open early for the event, great love it....please for the love of god tell people its open and next if you have a photo op in the area don't make it an exit only people want to take pictures why would you make a photo op an exit only?
Took about 90 mins to get through the line 3 times. I then headed over to Toontown and the line for Chip and Dale was full, you could wait but it would be around 90mins plus to meet them because the characters were not out yet and they took 30 min breaks between sets. So I waited for Fatcat and was in and out of there within 25 mins but most the time was waiting for 9 PM when the characters came out.
I then got in line for the Tailspin photo op, this was kinda a mistake by the time I was done there were wayyyy less parade spots. I did find one but I was solo, so most groups would have just worst spots. So you need to line up for the parades like 30 mins early still even at these events for a front row view.
The Parade features 4 movies, Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan and Hercules. It was cool see the old school costumes and some old props, my only notes here besides having more floats would be if your going to stop to do little musical dances it should be two floats at a time not 4 because there is no way to see all the cute dances when you have all 4 floats stopped and each one does a little dance, its just too large of an area to see it all.
Headed over to the Golden Horseshoe for the Singalong event but because of the Rain they had the dance show first which was fun buttttt then they cleared everyone out...so if you wanted to see the singing event...you were out of luck because the line wrapped around to the Riverbelle Restaurant near by.
Tried to meet Meeko but there were on break and also even if I got in line it would not be to meet them next but the rotation after that another 90+ min wait.
I was lucky enough to be the last person to meet Indy but the Fantasmic Monkey line was too long, so just looked at them and left.
I was lucky and was the second to last person to see Filk in Atta before they went on break. I tried to see the Goofy and Max dance show but it was too crowded so left after the first song, there is just not enough room here for the crowds...wish they did this on the Rivers of America more then enough room to have them dance on the island and more standing room for people to watch. I
While I did see Louie from talespin earlier walking around, I did not see Baloo when I went to check out the area later, so left and got a ride on Dumbo (walk on) and then saw the parade again from main street and went to the Sing Along area, now it was wayyyy less packed. They had the Ragtime dance show again and watched people sing after that inclusiding on guy Singing Hellfire, from hunchback.
I was about to see Esméralda and Phoebus leaving for the night and then enjoyed the 90s vibe in main street until they turned the music off. Also want to note at 1 AM they had all the parade characters come out and wave goodbye for 15 mins.
At 1:30 AM the music went back to normal so I left
So I enjoyed most the entertainment, the issue was communication most of the time. Letting people into the sing along area for the dance show is smart because of the rain but ZERO communication on them kicking you out until the show is done, so if you wanted to sing or hear people sing you were out of luck. Also opening the area to meet Darkwing early was great but zero...nothing on telling guests it was happening.
So what I see them needing to do is use bigger area's for shows, i know the fantasyland theater is cool for photo ops but should have been where the Goofy and Max dance show should have been or on Rivers of America the Tomorrowland stage is too small for the crowds. Also they need to double up on characters, use mickeys house and split people up last min so you can have two Darkwing ducks and the line will move sooo much quicker, also if characters need breaks great but you need to have a backup in that area during the 30 mins they are gone. Stopping a line for 30 mins in a 4 hours event is insane and I'm not again breaks its just you need to have a second costume and person ready to go to fill in for them, this can be done I see it at Universal Studios all the time, one character goes in and the same one comes out 3 mins later.
So while the event had great moments its the glue holding it all togeather that needs some work. Fan Fest is coming up at USH and its 70 bucks a ticket and runs from 7PM-2AM and I will be going all night to that as well. So I hope if USH has even better flow then this that Disney can copy that and make 2026 events even better because as for now...maybe I would go back to one but I feel the events need to be longer, use bigger areas for shows and be none stop on characters to be worth the 150+ bucks for these events. Because I can tell you at fan fest you should be able to do it all if you want but here...its not possible and its not because there is too much to do its because of the self made restrictions on Disney part.
