Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Weekend ** September 2-4, 2011 ** Check-In

I'll probably report back after I've used it, lol. Glad to hear recommendations though. Now I hope it wont take too long to get here. I did find a hip pack for a digital camera of mine that will do well enough for now I supposed. Or I'll just keep it in my hand until the Spibelt gets here.

Last year I carried my camera in my SPIbelt but when I did the 1/2 in SD I carried my iphone instead.

I have yet to decide if I'm bringing a camera for the 5K or just sticking with my iPhone. I dunno. The camera takes better photos and we all know I'm a photo snob. Besides, it's only 3+change miles ... But right now I'm kind of using that camera pack as an impromptu holder for my iPhone! :rotfl:

Question for anyone who has done this in the past: how did they work MM because of the events over the weekend? I don't want to assume anything but do they still fit them on Sat/Sun somehow, do they do they add Monday or whatnot, or do they just scratch it all together? The Park calendar should be updated over the next couple of days but thought I would ask here!

So my question is slowly being answered according to the calendar on the Park's website. It's updated through Saturday and MM is offered on Thursday like normal, on Friday, and not on Saturday. So I may just be in luck and that they wont offer it on Sunday but they will on Monday. :cool1: Just have to wait patiently two more days.

I have finally had the nerve to ask for the time off for the race (yes, I registered back in March for a race I didn't have permission yet to take :sad2:) and I got not only Friday but Thursdays as well! I'm excited to finally say that I'm going to DL for my first time as well as for my first DL 1/2!!!

So glad to hear that you're going to make it. Looking forward to meeting you!

OK, I'm trying to remember where someone had mentioned some good prices on some waist packs or something for running. I'm looking for somehting to carry some stuff in when I run. Now that I'm using my iPhone to track my progress I have to hold it for now (crossing my fingers I don't drop it before I can find something to use) it's too bulky for my tastes to strap on my arm like I did with my iPod nano. I just can't for the life of me remember what I was looking at beforehand.

Any suggestions?

DH and I used to use Arm Pockets for our ipod/iphone, keys, and a few small items. When running our first 1/2 marathon this past January, we upgraded to ifitness running belts. I purchased them at the WDW marathon expo. Spi Belt also makes a running belt. My iFitness belt holds my iphone, id, key, and it I can pin ry running bib to it. I also safety pin my GU to it so I can just tear it off mid run. I love the belt vs the Arm Pocket! So much easier, and I don't feel it at all.

Me too, Mary! It's going to be great! I went out last night and picked up a few travel books. I've been to Florida so many times that planning it was a matter of picking my favourite resort and restaurants. Here it's going to a new state, a new park, and learning all about Anaheim. Very, very, exciting!

Thanks for the response! I did end up ordering the Spibelt so we'll see how that works for me! Maybe I'll upgrade while I'm training for the Tinkerbell Half.

Did you see you get a MM on Sunday? Are you going to be able to go that morning?

Pretrip report hopefully will start to get up today. I was typing stuff out on word so I could just paste it and not have to sign back in.

So random, non-race question for anyone. I just got an iTouch yesterday, I've always just had the shuffle for running. But can you upload pictures you took to the threads through imageshack or does it have to be a digital camera?

I did see. But honestly, I was hoping for it to be on Monday instead because of the 1/2. Phooey. But it'll all work out in the end. I wont get the actual MM because I have an AP and wont be staying on-site but we're going to do the Minnie & Friends character meal during the MM hour instead. I was just hoping to do it on Monday.

I will definitely keep an eye out for your PTR! Mine will be updated tomorrow with planning details and an update on how my first week of training with Jeff Galloway's Ultimate 5K went. It's not going to end on a high note though. Today was supposed to be my first "long run" but 1/2mi in the muscles around my knee tightened up and I couldn't go on. So I'm sitting at home now and bummed out. I was doing so well this week too. I'm hoping it's just a case of me needing to add more stretching into the mix before I go out and possibly increasing the time on my warm-up walk. But I'm taking tomorrow off, that's for sure.

I don't have an iPod Touch, but you should be able to upload them to an image host, they are photos after all. I know when I take photos from my iPhone it works exactly the way I would with my cameras.

It appears that MM is not on Saturday, but on Friday. It will still be on Sunday though. This is on DL's website. The S and T rule is out the window for race weekend, it seems.

I am running the 1/2 for my third time! It will be half marathon #7 for me! You can add me to the list of participants!

Which we've just been discussing ;) I was hoping they would not do it on Sunday as well but on Monday but no dice.

I went out for a 7 mile run this morning...left the house at 7am, and I had to fight for each mile. I will start at 630am or earlier next week when I go out for 8 miles! It was 80 and beyond humid. Drinking lots of extra water today! I am thinking it's time to buy myself a Garmin watch like DH...my iphone running ap hiccuped this am, again, grrrr!

54 days until my next half marathon, which means DH and I will be at Disneyland in 51 days! Almost 8 weeks to add on an additional 6.1 miles. My goal, like for the WDW half marathon in January is to finish with a smile, standing up, and wanting to do another...Kinda have to as we are doing the Wine & Dine half marathon on 10/1, and WDW half marathon 1/7/12. Hopefully these extra 35 pounds start coming off!

Wondering why I decided DL half was a great idea...must train through the summer living in Florida...oh yea, C2C this year!

Stephanie, Nice job on the 7 mile run. I don't know what plan you're training with. Most of them recommend slowing down the pace of your long run as the weather increases. Jeff Galloway I know, recommends a 30 sec. slow down per mile for each 5 degrees above 65. Good luck on your 8 miler next week. I have an 11 on tap for this Friday, or Saturday.

Great job on 7 miles Stephanie! And good luck for 8 miles next week :wizard:

Jeremy, good luck with your 11 miles at the end of this week!

Sounds like training is moving along for us all. I had a small hiccup yesterday during my first "long run". I use the term loosely since it was only 1 mile, lol. My right leg tightened up like crazy and it just wasn't going to happen. Feeling better today and I think I'm going to do some yoga instead of my walk today and then see how I'm feeling tomorrow.

I ran a little over 4 miles yesterday after not running for the past few weeks. It's just too hot! But I know I need to step up my training.

Good luck Sarah! What time of the day have you been running?

I go around 6:00pm. I like to make sure I'm back before dark because I live in a rural area and there's no street lights and I get scared out there in the dark. :scared1: :rotfl:

Good Job Stephanie - running in the heat is really tough. Ohio weather has been hot and humid too. Got lucky on Sat morning for a local 5k I ran. It was only 72 when we started.

As I mentioned before I am using the run/walk with only 30 sec intervals cause that seems to work best for me. Well, it really paid off in this race. I cut 2 and 1/2 minutes off my 5k PR for a 36:57! :cool1: I am really slow compared to some of you, but for me this is flying!

I continue to be amazed at how much faster I am getting, but at the same time seem to be a great "happy" place with my body. I really pushed hard the last mile in this race and did that in 11:50. Actually I ran the whole race with negative splits. I love how strong I am feeling at the end of my runs and how quickly I am recovering. :yay:

Makes getting the mileage in a lot easier mentally when I can continue to feel good and see improvements in my performance. I am seriuosly considering do the Columbus Half in Oct to see if I can break 3 hours :rolleyes1

Tough to decide since I am already signed up for the WDW half in Jan - afraid it might be pushing too much to do 3 halfs in 4 months. I don't plan on doing eithe Disney race for time, but rather for fun. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Thanks
Kathy

Congrats on shaving the 2+ minutes from your 5K Kathy!!

Sarah, I don't blame you!! Right now we're heading out at about 7pm for my long walks and so far we're back in plenty of light but I know that wont last forever. I want to try and run in the mornings on the days that I don't work but we'll see how that goes.
