Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Weekend ** September 2-4, 2011 ** Check-In

Nice job Kathy. My 5K record is 38:40, so there are several of us slower people here, but that was in 85+ degree weather about a month ago I think I have a 36:xx in me if the weather cooperates. The Columbus half is a nice course. I ran it last year in 3:08. I was doing run 1/walk 2 at the time. Given your 5K time, I think going sub 3 is very doable. I did 2:51 in Xenia in April doing run 1/walk 1.

I'm looking at doing the State fair 5K the end of July. But, I'm waiting on the weather forecast before signing up. My nephew is in the Choir so I know I'll go at least 1 day.

So got back to running today. I'm only in the second week of this program so I'm still barely doing 1 mile, but so far so good and I was able to stick with the 1min intervals. But man is that Half in January looking mighty intimidating from where I'm standing right now.

Stephanie, Nice job on the 7 mile run. I don't know what plan you're training with. Most of them recommend slowing down the pace of your long run as the weather increases. Jeff Galloway I know, recommends a 30 sec. slow down per mile for each 5 degrees above 65. Good luck on your 8 miler next week. I have an 11 on tap for this Friday, or Saturday.

I follow the Galloway method! Trust me, the heat and humidity out there, I couldn't have gone any faster than I did. I was at 14:55 per mile, and that was tough to maintain.

Good luck on 11 miles this weekend!

Short run today :-) 30 minutes seems like a breeze after 7 (actual 7.4) that I did the other day!

Good Job Stephanie - running in the heat is really tough. Ohio weather has been hot and humid too. Got lucky on Sat morning for a local 5k I ran. It was only 72 when we started.

As I mentioned before I am using the run/walk with only 30 sec intervals cause that seems to work best for me. Well, it really paid off in this race. I cut 2 and 1/2 minutes off my 5k PR for a 36:57! :cool1: I am really slow compared to some of you, but for me this is flying!

I continue to be amazed at how much faster I am getting, but at the same time seem to be a great "happy" place with my body. I really pushed hard the last mile in this race and did that in 11:50. Actually I ran the whole race with negative splits. I love how strong I am feeling at the end of my runs and how quickly I am recovering. :yay:

Makes getting the mileage in a lot easier mentally when I can continue to feel good and see improvements in my performance. I am seriuosly considering do the Columbus Half in Oct to see if I can break 3 hours :rolleyes1

Tough to decide since I am already signed up for the WDW half in Jan - afraid it might be pushing too much to do 3 halfs in 4 months. I don't plan on doing eithe Disney race for time, but rather for fun. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Thanks
Kathy

Congrats on shaving off that much time! I am also a slower interval runner. I am training at a 30:40 right now with the heat and humidity. I'm hoping these outside runs, and long runs I have to really push hard to get through will allow me to shave time off my half marathon time...I was happy to finish in 3:19:07 at WDW in Jan...but that was with almost no training...here's hoping DL I'm at least a few minutes faster. Although, I will be happy with myself if I maintain the pace to not get picked up!

Here, here! That's really what I'll be shooting for come January. I just want to finish!! I'll set other time goals after I can get that under my belt.

I have never done the State Fair 5k _ cool that your nephew is in the Choir. Gotta love the Fair!

I think I will see how DL goes and then decide if I want to enter Columbus. So many races, so little time :goodvibes

I wonder if she did. We should pass it along to her ;)

Today is another running day. I'm doing about 3 1/2 miles on my walking days right now and still only about 1 mile or so for my training runs, but they are increasing that's for sure! So far this week is going very good!

Stopped by Michael's at lunch today for inspiration/spark of an idea for the race. I'm not really a creative person, but I was hoping for something.

Last year, I got a foam sheet and cut out a Mickey Head to pin on my hat, so that's where my thinking is. So I found a lime green duck tape sheet, green ribbon, little tiny green sticker rhinestones and these lime green sheer, "girly" shoelaces. I was thinking the DIS color is lime green and Tink is green so at the very least I could hang on to stuff until Jan. I also found a woman online who makes nail decals for you, so she's making me some w/ the DL 1/2 Logo, the Running Mickey logo and the Tink 1/2 logo(for Jan.) So I'm going to match up the Mickey/DL 1/2 decals w/ the rhinestones.

As for the other stuff, no idea but there's still time to play around. W/ the tape sheet, I can cut out designs and stick on me somewhere and the ribbon can go on my hat, but no idea yet. And the laces I'm thinking of looping through the shoes race day w/ my regular laces to spice up my running shoes.

Hope everyone's training is going well!

My mom and I are up to running longer mileage now during the week. we run seperately most of the time, but try to run at least 1 long run together each week. I run every other day- I usually do a short 3-4 miles on monday, wed I do a 8-10 miler, friday I run a short run again and sunday we do 13-15...I am training to run a full marathon, so want to be able to keep those sunday runs getting longer...

So I'm still trucking along. I feel so slow though, ugh. I had to be really lame and do a 1 minute run/3 minute walk for my long run the other day otherwise I never would have survived - and that wasn't even 2 1/2 miles! I'm starting to get really intimidated by the Half in January but I really sould keep my focus on the 5K right now otherwise I'll just freak myself out.

In Disneyland news though, the Entertainment schedule has been posted (still waiting for DCA) so here you go:

They put up the link on the website for the race instructions and bib numbers for the races!!!:banana::banana:

 It's not finding me when I try to verify my registration. Is anyone else having this problem?

:rotfl: Well I believe I just found out my problem. I totally didn't notice that there was an error with my registration and it has the wrong birthdate. Gosh darnit. Gotta go take care of that now.

Can someone clarify for me...I know it's probably been asked a million times...but do I have 3.5 hours from when the race starts to finish? Or is that 3.5 hours from when the last runner crosses the start line?

3.5 hours from when the last person crosses the starting line. :)

3.5 hours from when the last person crosses the starting line. :)

I noticed you changed your picture to, hopefully, the logo on the shirt! The more I see that picture, the more I love it!! I really hope it's on the shirt or at least on shirts that you can buy.
