Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Weekend ** September 2-4, 2011 ** Check-In

Just found this post.
I have been on the WISH sites posting about DL 1/2 marathon. I am looking forward to going to DL since we spend all the time at DW.

My DH and I have been WALKING and this sunday we will do 7 miles. Set back a little bit since he had a bicycle accident in April and broke his collarbone and c6 fracture in his neck. We think he will be getting out of the neck brace on Tuesday. He still dois well by walking a 11 min mile while I am finally getting into a 15 min mile.

Can not wait to get out fo DL.

Kathy

It's been two and a half weeks since the doctor cleared me for training, and I've only run intervals (2 min. on, 2 min. off). I'm scheduled to do 7 km tomorrow. It's unbelievable how much discipline it takes to limit myself to prevent re-injuring my foot.

I'm also doing a bit of cross-training. My work has a gym so I've taken a bunch of plyometrics, abs classes, and I have now started yoga. I will also start dodgeball on Thursday. Fun times leading up to the DL weekend!

3 of us running the Disneyland half, only one of us(me) doing any serious training at this time. My SIL injured her knee training too hard too fast, and aggravated it further tryingot run a half marathon last month. She is now ordered not to run, so has been walking on the treadmill in hopes of being able to at least walk the DL half. My Mom has not ran much lately, at least not since our half last month. I have made it a point to get up every morning and run- I have driven multiple loops in my area so depending on which loop I run I am running up to 2 hours per day.The shortest loop is a 4 mile, and the longest is just under 9miles. This week I have done the 4mile loop 3 times and a 6mile loop twice. Disneyland will be my 2nd half marathon, and i can not wait! I hope to do it faster than my first one which was 3:14:11.....

My training had completely fallen off the wagon :rotfl: I just haven't had the motivation to run when I get off work. We've been going through a remodel at my store and getting up at 4a every day on very little sleep just has me exhausted. I have been doing 3 mile walks twice a week, but that's about it. I'm hoping to start back up again tomorrow now that I'm going back to my normal schedule. I'm tired of feeling lazy. Kind of glad I'm only doing the 5K in September.

I did start my PTR for this trip though. Very excited. Will anyone else be reporting on their experiences?

I fell on Saturday while camping with my DD and her family. Hit the side of the camper door where the hinge sticks out. Don't think I broke anything, but even bending over hurts, so no run for me this morning. At least I got my long run in for the week that morning before the fall, but probably won't try to do a short run again until at least Thurs. Going to see my chiropractor tomorrow, so if I did jerk my spine, he should be able to put it right.

Yikes! I hope it's nothing serious and you're feeling better real soon! I worked 11 hours yesterday, and took it easy last week, as my knee was sore. Short run today, and should be doing my long run of 6.5 on Thursday :-)

Great job on your training. DL will also be my 2nd half marathon. I did WDW in Jan and my time was 3:19:07. I too want to beat my time. Of course, this is the 2nd part of my Coast to Coast journey this year, so as long as I finish with a medal, I will be happy! I had almost no training at all for the first half as I had gone through a lot last year, and I still managed to finish in time...with actually training for this one, I am hoping I can at least come in under my time.

Good luck with getting back in. I an an interval runner, but I am training at a 1:1 right now. I actually talked with Jeff Galloway before my 1st half in Jan, and he told me to go out slow for that race, 3-5 miles at 20:40, and then switch to 30:30. Well, I listened to him as my training had been almost non-existant...worked out great...finished standing up, with a smile, time of 3:19:07, wanting to do it again. I wasn't even that sore after or the next day...I was surprised I could walk at all!

Yikes, you have been through a lot...11 min mile walking? That's great! Much better than my run/walk of 13.5-14.5 min/mile. As long as I am under 16 min/mile I am happy for DL half! Good luck with continued healing and training.

Ooohhh. Sorry about the early mornings w/ the store. Hopefully that won't last too long for you.

I was thinking about a TR. I've never done one before so it's tempting me. Have you already started the thread in the TR thread or are you waiting until closer to the race?

Hope you get better too! Hope it wasn't too bad of an injury.

So is anyone thinking about doing costumes or some sort of decoration for the races? I always go back and forth whether I want to do something or not. I wouldn't do a full costume, I'd get too hot, but I would do decorations. I was in Party City over the weekend and popped over to the disney area to look for stuff. Didn't find anything for Sept., but did find some Tinkerbell stuff! They had these little gold and green headband thing w/ Tink in the center. I picked it up, I'm thinking I could lay in on my hat where the hat part meets the bill and probably won't even feel it. I have 3 extra is anyone wants one for Tink or DL. Just let me know!

Well, I'm back to my "normal" schedule which still has me starting at 6a, but it's a heck of a lot better than 5a. Something about that 1 hour was just killing me. Just got a text from a friend and we'll go for a nice long walk tonight - Probably about 3 miles. It's a good start for getting back on track. She even said she might be up for a jog.

I love writing TR's and all that. You should do it ;) I'm all for enabling when it comes to TR's. I have started my next pre-Trip Report and I'm hoping to weekly updates until the trip with planning details, and probably details on my training. Mines an all-encompassing never-ending TR so pretty much once one ends another begins so I'm hoping for a good PTR transition for the Tinkerbell Half in January. The link to mine is in my signature if you want to check it out. I always keep the OP updated with links to make it easier but the next chapter begins on p.64 I believe. I also believe in starting PTR's very early! It helps to have somewhere to talk planning when you can't do it with people you see day to day or they would think you were crazy.

I don't know if your last question was directed at the Half runners only, but I may have a Team Starkid mini costume for the 5K since I'm not much a fan of Star Tours. It works, haha. I want to get a Starship t-shirt for the 5K or at least to wear o Saturday and I need my blue headband. I'm a dork.

Do you have any photos of the Tink headbands you got? They sound cute and perfect for January.

Thanks for everyones concerns. John did get his neckbrace off today:cool1: and the doctor said see you in a month. He now just has to build up those neck muscles.

Bumpity-bump! I was on the website yesterday and finally noticed that they have the Official Program Guide posted. I hope that hasn't been there for ages and I've just missed it somehow. I downloaded it and read through it last night and I am so excited! It means I get to start finalizing more plans and whatnot. Plus it will come in handy for my PTR.

I'm hoping maybe this week I can start getting images from it to add some information to the OP!

I saw the schedule about a week ago. Training started back up for me after taking a week off to finish healing. Did 3 miles Monday and 4 miles today. Haven't decided on 5 or 6 for my long run of the week.

Question for anyone who has done this in the past: how did they work MM because of the events over the weekend? I don't want to assume anything but do they still fit them on Sat/Sun somehow, do they do they add Monday or whatnot, or do they just scratch it all together? The Park calendar should be updated over the next couple of days but thought I would ask here!

I re-started training yesterday with a walk for day 1. Ended up doing a little shy of 4 miles. Today I'm jogging/walking but probably wont do too much. I've decided to give Jeff Galoway's 5K training plan a go and we'll see how this one works!

Just to give everyone a visual representation here, I'm posting the race maps!

:woohoo: I updated the OP! It's a lot more organized now, with more information. Still more to come but it's an improvement I think.

Ok, I'll do a TR! I'll try to get it up later this week/weekend.

Question about the costumes was for everybody. Last year at the 5K, I saw a bunch of new costumes I hadn't seen on runners before. There was an all out full costumed Pinocchio and a Mom/Dad/Kids who were dresses as the 7 Dwarves, they were the cutest thing ever!

I'll post the pic of the headband in a little bit. The camera died so I had to recharge the battery, so it'll be up shortly.

Not sure about the MM, but I would lean more towards them not having it on Sat/Sun. I know w/ the 5K last year, it was a kinda messy. Course was the same as this year where you end near the Little Mermaid and the exit once you're done is by Soarin. The problem came b/c they weren't opeining security on either side to make sure the race course and DL were cleared out before they opened it up. So the DTD side was totally crowded b/c runners were coming out and if you stayed on Harbor you were stuck along w/ all the people trying to go to the park. I know it was well after 8 before security opened up, so that wasn't too fun. As for Sunday... it's a slight possibility, but I think also no. The time limit is 16:30/mile and you're still in DL at Mile4. Race starts at 6:00, but it'll be at least 40 minutes before the last of the runners cross, so that would be at least 7:30/8 and they have to pick up some cones. Not only that, but we cross from DCA to DL at Soarin again and enter through the main gates on the left side in a gate b/w the turnstyles. So it'll be longer for the DTD people than the Harbor people again if it opens. But who knows?:goodvibes They could still have it, but I would lean towards Sun more than Sat. Hope that helps you a little bit!

Congrats on the training! You're going to have an awesome run it sounds like!
