Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Weekend ** September 2-4, 2011 ** Check-In

Great thread everyone! My DH and DS ran in the WDW 1/2 Marathon in January and my DS' dream is to do the Coast to Coast Challenge~ so he doesn't know it yet, but for his 16th birthday gift (I guess guys miss out on a Sweet 16;)) my DH is taking him to run in the DL 1/2 for the weekend so he can get the Coast to Coast medal. It will just be a father/son weekend so my DH is looking forward to it!

I'm looking forward to going back and reading the TRs :goodvibes

Kim3339, those are amazing pictures!! Thank you for posting them. I'm kinda upset I'm not running the 5k. Those medals are pretty neat!! I especially love the Buzz and Woody one. The POC one would be pretty awesome!!!

Just an FYI, I went to make another reservation through Disney for DLH that weekend and was told the 3rd is now sold out.

Thanks!! If you're running the 1/2 you get to go backstage as well! I can't remember if you see the train depot, but you go behind mainstreet through to tomorrowland as well as b/w toontown and the mountains. Of course the course could change again, but even still you get to go backstage.

Check online. I was just on the Disney website, not the travel company through the race and they still had rooms available. I think the starting for the DLH was $315.

I just reserved my room!! :yay: I'm at the Travelodge. I wish I could stay at the DLH again, but it was so pricey from last year. Plus, I decided I'm flying down this year. Nice and relaxing, no driving through LA morning traffic! :goodvibes

I officially pulled out the credit card and registered this week! :woohoo: Gotta thank Belle Ella for reminding me about the price hike to get my rear in gear! :thumbsup2 Seems like it gets a little more expensive every year.

Not sure where we're staying yet. Probably Desert Inn or Del Sol, our old standbys. :) Going w/ my parents (my dad is also doing the 1/2.) and most likely my sister (also doing the 1/2, I believe) and bro-in-law. Also hoping to convince my other sister to bring her fam and do the 5k or family run.

bumpage

As mentioned in the WISH DL 1/2 marathon thread, I am in and ready for C2C. I put a deposit down for two nights at the hojo Anaheim today and plan on adding more days here and there once I get some more info with days off of work, friends coming out to run with me, other itinerary etc. etc.

Unfortunately I didn't see anyone from the boards in Orlando last month but I hope that changes this time around.

Half Marathon: 70% Full
5K: 60% Full

Thanks for the update! I'm hoping my DH will have a change in heart and let me and my 2 girls come with him and my DS who are running the 1/2. We want to do the 5K, and have to work my magic before it's full. :goodvibes

We registered a few weeks back, reserved the hotel, and as of today, we have our flights booked. Based on oil prices, and seeing that Southwest cheapest fares from Orlando to Orange County (and LAX) jump $10 per person each way since a few days ago, I just booked them this morning. A lot fewer times to choose from at the cheapest fare, so we didn't get our 1st pick of flight times, but at least we are booked before the flights go up even more. We have not flown into SNA before, but happy that it's cheaper and closer to Disneyland.

I signed up for the DL 1/2 Marathon - it will be my first race of any kind. I truly am NOT a runner. I hated it my whole life, blamed it on my asthma when I was in school, but I really just hated it.

A co-worker convinced me I could do it, so we signed up together. I just had a baby in September and figure this will help motivate me to get in shape. My co-worker also put a Tiara from the WDW Princess half on my desk as added motivation princess:

I've had some set-backs in my training the last few weeks, since I was sick twice - first a cold that had me so congested I couldn't breathe, then the stomach flu. I'm finally feeling better, and went running in my hotel gym after work today (I'm on a business trip right now).

I'm really starting to get excited about this - especially after reading some of the stories from people who participated last year! :yay:

Now to figure out what hotel to stay at.....I would love to stay in one of the DL hotels, but $300+ per night is not in my budget. :sad2:

You can do this! I did the WDW half marathon in January. I never considered myself a runner. I followed the Jeff Galloway method. He is the official trainer and coach for Run Disney. I had setbacks last year-both my parents passed away from cancer. I was my dad's caregiver after my mom passed away. My training was almost non-esistant. DH and I ran 12 races last year (our goal). My longest race or even training run was 6.2 miles (a 10k). I followed Jeff's advice after talking with him at the expo, and did a 20:40 interval, then moved to a 30:30 ratio. I was so excited to finish my 1st half in 3:19:07. Now this year, I need to work my endurance up and my goal is to beat my WDW time.

DH, myself, another friend from Orlando, and someone else we know from the midwest, are all staying at the Hojo Plaza. It has great reviews on DISboards. It is about an 8 minute walk to the front gate.

I grew up in SoCal, but moved to MN when I was 14. DH, DD, and I made a trip to DL 6 years ago, my first trip back. I can't wait to return again to do the half. I only wish DD was joining us. She will be in 2nd grade, and school starts mid August here in Orlando. She will stay with my in-laws, since we already have booked the Disney Dream for a Halloween cruise this year, and she will miss school for that.

Last year's 1/2 was my first race of any kind too! I started training 12 weeks before using a program I found online and I finished in 2:48. I jogged some/walked some. Plus I stopped for pictures along the way.

They updated reg %s from the Princess Expo regs ~ 1/2 is at 87% and the 5k is at 67%. I can't believe how fast the 1/2 is selling out this year!! It's crazy!!

I've already checked in for this event but I wanted to report that last weekend I was at WDW for the Princess Half Marathon and I had a fabulous time with the event and my friends. This was my first ever half marathon and I am so excited for the DL half.

Plus you get the cool Coast to Coast medal! I hope one day I am able to get one. :)

Wow, that's a really great time for your first race! Right now my goal is just to cross the finish line and not get picked up by the sweepers. I'll work on speed if I do another race.

When I signed up for this race, I had major anxiety about the sweepers! So I ran the PF Chang Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 marathon in Phoenix this past January. It helped me know that I could finish the race way ahead of the sweepers. My time was 3:11:37. My strategy is the first 3 miles of the race will be kind of slow for me since it'll be through the park and I'll definitely take pictures. I can make up for loss time when we get out on the streets of Anaheim!

I'm so excited for this race!!!
