Disney YES Program Open to non-groups

We did the class where you visit the ballroom scene and it did happen during operating hours. You are under the moving cars and the children are just told they need to be very quiet.

I image that does not clarify anything for you. We did it two years ago in Jan during the open enrollment.

Here's my question:

How long before a class can you use tickets and how long are the tickets good for? My sister is going and her kids are going to participate in the class. We are going a week before them and there will not be a class my kids can participate in - we will be overlapping some of the trip with them and our parents. Can she get the tickets for all of us and then we use ours before she arrives and with her as well? Can you even get tickets for 6 adults and 4 kids if only 2 kids are in the class? My kids really want to do the class but they have a huge gap the week we are planning on going...leaving us in a dilemma.

ETA: I am asking what is allowed within the rules of the program...I would do the class if we could but we can't so now I am trying to figure out what would work for us or see if we need to buy seperate tickets.

Maybe you cups just switch dates so that your children can participate without skirting the system.

The PP was just asking a question and never said she would break the rules. Truth is, the rules are kind of gray, depending on how you define immediate family. I have already bought my tickets, but may be in the same situation if they don't let my 16 year old attend the 11-15 class. It let me sign all three boys up(12, 15(nephews) and 16(DS)), but now I am reading that ages are strictly enforced. If they say he can't come, there is no class he qualifies for. I say my sister and her boys are my immediate family anyway, so it is a non-issue.

I realize that. My point was that the poster seems to get that it is a gray area. Usually gray means that it really isn't something someone is comfortable with. Change the dates by a week, put her kids into a class...and all is well. She is following the rules stated.

I definitely agree.:) I guess I interpret the rules a little more literally....I'm definitely not going to interpret the immediate family thing for anyone else but me, but my mom and dad, brother, sister, nephews, nieces etc. are immediate to me. If there was a class for one of my girls and not for the other, then we would still get the discount. If my daughter was in a class and my brothers' family was arriving the last days we're there, I'd probably ask the YES office what their take is on the situation. It's a scenario that could probably be taken advantage of, but that's where people make their own choice. And to be clear, by no means do I in anyway think that the pp is doing that. The class gap is out of her hands Their arrival/departure times are so close to each other you'd hope that they could have all the kids take part if they're the right ages. But I know trip planning can be less than flexible even that close together.

I don't think the class gap is out of their hands. If I want the discount, I plan our trip around the dates that the classes are available for our kids. Problem solved.

As much as I didn't want to hear this, I needed to. Sigh..... Thank you! Do you by any chance recall if the class started before park opening or at park opening? You know, I would think starting at park opening would be hectic with everybody rushing in.

Anybody have any suggests about the adult vs child registration considering that there are 2 listed for the 8-11 class and none listed for the 12-17 class? Should I just take my chance that one of them will get me into the one with DD13?

The statement was made that everyone should use their own judgement. A question was asked about what the program rules are and everyone can interpret them as they wish. What I am trying to understand is why any one person thinks that they need to be the moral compass for every/any person asking a question about the rules. You plan your trip around the class available. Great. Can we go back to where a person can ask a question/express an opinion and get the info they need without the grief?

Thank you....changing dates isn't as easy as everyone thinks...we have school testing and DVC points that need to be used. So I was asking what the rules were b/c this thread is really long and I didn't see it on the website. If I can't get tickets with my sister that affects my budgeting and planning which is why I asked.

So for those of you that asked - I CAN'T change my dates and I am trying to figure out if it can work or not...and no one needs to get all worked up b/c right now my DH isn't even working and we only plan on going if he finds a job before class registration opens up...so there are a zillion ifs before I do anything.

I just want to post the information that I have since there are a lot of questions about who you can by the tickets for. We did this class last year as a group. We were told that tickets are only for the child taking the class, the parents of that child (or responsible person) and other siblings.
You may get a different answer if you call. That's what I would do. Go right to the source and get the correct answers. :)
Plus I wouldn' t want to try to do somthing out of what is allowed in fear of getting there and having my tickets voided.:scared1:
Disney is always so helpful and nice when I call with my many questions.

Thank you!! I was hoping it would be clear cut from somebody else's confirmation but I guess not. I figure it HAS to be before park opening with them going behind the scenes at Haunted Mansion (it would be pretty disturbing for other guests to see people in the ballroom scene LOL) so it must be the 7:15 start time, or so I'm telling myself. I also saw that this class is offered another time over the summer (not our dates) and that one's at 7:15. OK, I feel better about that part of my problem. Phew!

I'm just not sure about the registration part for the adults. Do you think that if I put one adult in each of the two 8-11 options that we'll be able to have one of us go with DD13? I'd love for some reassurance on this point. DD13 NEEDS an adult with her (she has a high functioning form of autism so while intellectually she's very capable and in fact quite advanced and will love the class, she needs somebody there who she knows to head off any early signs of a meltdown before it happens).

Thanks again!!

If you cant put it in the class with the 13 year old write it in the special request at the bottom I am sure under the circumstance it wont be a problem I don't understand why it is not offering you that option because it did when i did mine. You will still put in the total number of tickets you need.

Yes the program started at 8:30 but there was a second one that started at 11 am. I think we went in the breakfast line or the cast member one. In February we did one at Epcot where we went in at park openning and it was crazy. We had to wait in line with the mass of a crowd.

Does anyone know the likelyhood of a YES individual program happening around the same time as the 2012 marathon (Sunday, 1/8/12)? Has anyone ever been able to do both? I want to run the marathon next year, but also want to give my son the opportunity for a program and get the discounted tickets. I know the 2012 dates arent out yet, but anyway to see what the Jan. 2010 and Jan. 2011 dates were to see the likelihood in the future? Thanx for the help.

My sis did the '10 marathon. She was able to get YES tickets for her, her DH, her DD, and my mom & our baby sis. All with the one student registration for my niece at Wild by Nature

Kind of a fine line there. It says the tickets are for immediate family of the kid(s) participating. I consider aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents part of my immediate family, but I don't know what Disney's definition is.

According to Ashley, who coordinates the individual enrollment classes, immediate family means the kids, their siblings, parents, and grandparents. We have 4 kids doing the program and my mom and my brother are both traveling with us. She specifically told me that we could get tickets for my mom(the kids grandmother), but not for my brother (the kids uncle).

It would be nice if the rules were made more clear on the website and during registration, because it sounds to me like lots of people have bought the discounted tickets for aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.

I asked for clarification as to who additional tickets can be purchased for. The answer I received was that it is the immediate family of the attending child, not the parent. In that case, it would be siblings, parents, and grandparents. No cousins, aunts/uncles etc. Of course, if Disney doesn't enforce it; there are going to be people that do not adhere to that. Not really that grey of an area.

BTW, the legal definition is:

Immediate family members, according to the law, include one's spouse, children, parents, grandparents, siblings, as well as one's in-laws. It also includes adopted children and stepchildren also are usually included in the definition.

Our 11yo and 13yo are now officially registered for the 8/22 Disney's World of Physics: Energy and Waves class. Woo Hoo!!!

Just to let others who may be interested in the class know, the class will start at 9:00am and the website has been updated to reflect this time. Also, the Adult class selection still wrongly shows two options for 8-11 enrollement and none for 12-17 enrollment but when I entered 1 adult for each, the confirmation page showed 1 adult in the 12-17 class and 1 in the 8-11 class. Phew!!

I can't wait!!!
