Yes, absolutely! They just want an adult available for the young kids if needed.

Has anyone done the Animation Magic class, or know where any reviews of it are? It is one of the few classes that spans my kids age range...Is it inside/outside? i just don't want them to be bored -I don't think they would be interested in teh Captivating mments class (which is also their age range) because they are not that in to photography. Any info is appreciated!

If my kids do this class the older 3 can go and the younges will have alone time with daddy or mommy

If they do wild by nature, that the younger 3 go and the 16 year old hangs out with mom or dad.

Which would you choose?

We did the Animation Class at Hollywood Studios in September. We all loved the class. I think it is a great class for the whole family.

We started off with a brief walk "behind the scenes" to save a few steps (so no pictures there but you could everywhere else). We sat at some picnic tables and did a mini-lesson and activity. Then we walked over to an indoor location, had another mini-lesson and a group activity, next was the animation class where you draw a character, and then we finished up with One Man's Dream. Time flew by! It was great for all ages.

There was not enough space for me to do the drawing class (which was fine) so when the park opened I asked our cast member if I could run get TSM fast passes for the family. She said sure. So I did that and came back to class. I believe class was over around 11am (we met at flag pole at 7:30am).

I have read good things about the wild by nature class here as well though. So I would go with what suits your family and schedule best.

I just want to thank you all here for such great information! I officially booked a YES program for my daughters for our upcoming trip and saved a boatload of money. It's crazy the savings you get (over $600 for our family of five!) and the program is something we'd love to do anyway so it's such a perfect opportunity.

I went ahead and booked myself and only two of my DD's and then I booked for my DH and my other DD. That way we're all able to go together as a family. The way it is currently set up, they would only allow one chaperone for us. So by splitting it up, now we're technically two reservations for the program so that both DH and I can accompany our three girls.

Thanks again for this thread, it was very helpful!:goodvibes

I have been reading this thread but I think it would be easier to just ask my questions:

Trip: August '12
Attending: me (single parent), my girlfriend, my 2 daughters 16 and 13 and my daughter's friend who is also 16. I would like to get YES tix for all three kids who all would like to attend a class and for my girlfriend as her AP will expire before the trip. My AP will still be active.

My Questions: I assume I can buy each of my daughters YES tix no problem as they both plan to attend a class. Can I buy one for the friend too as she will be attending a class as well? Can I get one for my girlfriend and she would be considered the guardian? Or can/should she do a seperate registration and buy one for the firend and be considered her guardian? I am thrown off by the "immediate family" as obviously our family is not typical. Finally, I have an annual pass, but I would like to attend one of the classes with my youngest daughter, is that OK or do I need to purchase a YES ticket too?

TIA

Just want to clarify, would all three girls be taking the same class? It seemed that way since they were so close in age, but then you mentioned about you wanting to attend a class with the youngest.

Unfortunately you cannot attend/chaperone that class without purchasing the YES tickets, so it really doensn't work with having an AP.

What would be the cheapest option to get everyone in your party tickets would be to register the three girls to all take one class with your friend as a chaperone. Since your girls are all over 13, your friend does not actually need to attend the class with them. She just has to check them in and remain in the park. You could meet up with her and have a few hours in the park together while the kids are doing the class.

ETA: I think the "immediate family" thing just pertains to purchasing tickets for people who will not be attending the classes so it wouldn't apply to the above scenario. You would only be purchasing tickets for the kids actually attending the class and one chaperone.

Ideally, they would be in separate classes. There is only 1 class the older girls can take and they would be together but there are many choices for the 13 year old and on many different days. So then the only way it could work is for all to go to one class? Or could my girlfriend escort the older girls to one class on one day and my younger daughter on a separate day?

I'm pretty sure that would be fine. (You'd have to double check with a phone call or email to the program.)

I would think it would only be a problem if they wanted to take separate classes the same day, since one chaperone couldn't be in two parks at once.

Also, some of the classes are before park opening so you would have to consider that your friend would have to accompany the kids to classes without the rest of you being able to enter the park more than one day of your trip.

Is it just a scavenger hunt? I have two teens who loved the book, but are thinking that the YES program about it might be nothing more than a scavenger hunt.

If you have gone, could you please describe more about what you did? Thank you!

My confirmation says tickets will be valid thru June 30th. So does that actually mean that I can use my 8 days anytime between June 9-30?

Yes, 8 days any time during that period.

Ok...I'm trying to wrap my head around this, because I was struggling to try to figure out how to make our days work......I thought it was that the tickets are good for 7 days before your YES class and 7 days after class? Are you saying it's not based on the YES class date, but on your arrival/departure dates?

We're flying to Florida on August 8...we're flying home August 31. Besides Disney we're also doing Kennedy Space Center and Star Wars Convention so to get 8 days at Disney we'd have to spread them out over the whole 23 days we're in Florida....but I was trying to figure out how to get a YES class in there that was 7 days before and after when we wanted to be in the parks. Ideally we want to do our 8 days on August 9, 10, 13, 14, 21, 28, 29 and 30. The YES classes we were considering is August 20. Will that even work?

Thank you!

Yes you sure can! I have 2 kids and I was able to with no problem at all.:thumbsup2

Yes, 8/20 would work. Now, a PP did say that this year the tickets can't be used until your arrival day, so I would put your arrival day a few days earlier, if you want to pick them up earlier. If you are flying home August 31, put that on the registration. Your tickets should be good from your arrival date until 8/31 and you can use the 8 days anytime during that period. They don't expire 14 days after first use like regular Disney tickets.

I checked our confirmation...it doesn't mention 7 days before/after. It says we can pick them up the day we arrive specifically, and the last valid date is the 13th day after that (as if the 14-day clock starts running on our arrival day, picked up/used or not).

I put on our dates as 7/6-7/16 and my receipt says I can pick them up on arrival day and they are good through 7/23, which is longer than 14 days and exactly one week after my listed departure date. So, it does seem that tickets are not good until listed arrival date, but at least mine are good until 7 days after listed departure date. Of course, if anyone has any doubts, they can call the YES people and ask. It seems like several things have changed and I would hate to give bad advice based on the last two years.

It does state on the YES ticket page...

"Each admission ticket includes one (1) Disney Youth Education Series program plus theme park admission for the number of days indicated. To experience more than one program during your visit, please add $26 per program, per participant to the ticket package price listed below. As a special thank you to the group leaders, two (2) complimentary identical Chaperone ticket packages for will be provided with your order. In addition, for each ticket package purchased, one (1) additional Guest ticket package may be purchased at the student price.*

A $12 premium program fee will be added to each ticket package to participate in The Science of Disney Imagineering: The Experience. See total Ticket Package Pricing for this program here.

*A minimum of 10 students is required and a maximum of one (1) adult may attend the Program per every five (5) students. The number of Group Leaders and Additional Guests (i.e. chaperones, parents, siblings, etc.) may not exceed the number of students.

Theme Park admission is required and all participants must purchase a Disney Youth Education Series Ticket Package to attend any Disney Youth Education Series program. Use of an admission is required for entrance into the park on the date of your program. Tickets are valid for 7 days prior to your arrival date and after departure date. Tickets are only available to residents of the Domestic U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. Annual passes, complimentary admission, and regular front-gate admission cannot be applied to the cost of a program."

It is pretty confusing.

The Individual Enrollment page has slightly different verbage, but the 7-day thing is the same:

Theme Park admission is required and all participants must purchase a Disney Youth Education Series – Individual Enrollment Ticket Package to attend any Disney Youth Education Series – Individual Enrollment program. Use of an admission is required for entrance into the park on the date of your program. Tickets are valid for 7 days prior to your arrival date and after departure date. Tickets are only available to residents of the Domestic U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. Annual passes, complimentary admission, and regular front-gate admission cannot be applied to the cost of a program.

I checked the calendar again, and the last valid date also corresponds to an additional seven days beyond our departure date. Ours just happens to fall on what would have been the MYW 14-day window. :)

If you do a class on the 20th that will count as one of your park admission days. Otherwise, your plan should work fine.

The wording on the website does still say the 7 days prior to arrival date and after departure date. However, my confirmation states that my tickets may be picked up beginning on the date I put in as my arrival date. The date that it states the tickets will be valid through is 7 days past the date I put in as my departure date (which is in fact 21 days that the tickets could be valid for). I don't know why the wording on the website is different than the wording on the confirmation...

It will not let you enter more than 30 days between your arrival and departure dates

Just booked our class/tickets. We are doing the Wild by Nature class on Oct 16th. We can't wait!
