I am watching the parade right now..First let me say that it is terrific. But, if I could count how many times Magical Gatherings has been referenced so far by the hosts, it would be quite a number. I do understand that it is a terrific oppurtunity for Disney (a for profit company) to promote their latest event, but they are working it in at EVERY SINGLE CHANCE..Anyone else see this differently????

Have to agree with you. I am also watching and said to my wife "boy you think they want people to know about Magical Gatherings"

But also on a good note once again the parade and show are great!!!!

DD and I are just enjoying the best parts of the parade anyways! Getting in the mood before we head out to see Disney on Ice!

Merry Christmas!

It's nothing new.

I remember when Disney first became affiliated with Premier Cruise lines and cruising on the Big Red Boat.

I'm not sure the parade that year had any commercials other than for the cruise line. I seem to remeber there even was a 5-10 minute infomercial about the cruising in the middle of the broadcast.

Have to agree!!! Enough already.

Actually, the DW and I were joking that if we were playing one of those drinking games, you know - the kind where you take a drink every time you hear "Magical Gathering", well..........I suppose we'd have been comatose by the time Santa came down Main St. USA .

Ack! It got so bad we had to turn it off! It was worse than a Ron Popeil informercial...

I've been wondering about this and hope some of you might can shed some light. What exactly is the deal with this parade? When it began, there was a message from Eisner with a graphic that says "recorded." Was that referring to the Eisner message, the parade itself or both? The entire parade appears to be "edited" together. In some spots, it appeared to be filmed on a different days. At one point, the sun is out and shining, but in another segment, it looked overcast. Plus, there were times the park appeared surprisingly uncrowded from everything I have heard about WDW at Christmas.

So, is the parade really done on Christmas Day, or is it all filmed in advance? If so, how and when do they film it in advance?

Thanks for any information,

Pierce

1) duh
2) The parade is a big commercial
3) By your comment, I think they succeeded.
4) The parade was recorded (mainly) on Dec 6-7.
5) There were other days, but this was the biggest part.

PS - Just in case you didn't hear it - - Magical Gatherings (LOL)

ROFLMAO!

I've survived the Bob Newhart game, but I'm pretty sure the Magical Gatherings game would have put me out of commission for good!

They have been "magicaly gathering" my money for years now. They are just now admitting it.

I can't wait for the "magical refunding" celebration.

Now that was hilarious!!!!!!!

The parade is taped in the beginning of December, and not in order. I watched last year as they taped the grand finale, then the middle, then all the commercials for the parade, and then the beginning. If you ever watch Regis & Kelly, they're quite open about discuccing their trips to WDW to tape the parade on their show, I'm surprised ABC lets them mention it, in the interest of making it appear live and spontaneous. As for this year, I guess they needed a few weeks of editing to cut it down into one straight hour of "magical gatherings"...

PS- I'm also ready for that magical refunding celebration!

:teeth: I love it! Gotta pass that one on to my son-in-law - he'll get a good laugh out of it.. He's one of those odd-ball human beings that doesn't "get" Disney - begrudges every penny he has to spend there..

I'm working on converting him though.. Should have tied him to a chair and made him watch all that warm, fuzzy "Magical Gathering" stuff - huh?;)

Woooowho Mr.C ,let me know when this begins...Lord knows Disney won't go out of their way to let us know about this special! :p

DisneyKidds...ROTFLMAO!!! I taped the parade because I was cooking so just saw bits and pieces.I think I have a new "game" to play on New Years Eve this year!!!:teeth:

The part with Starr Jones and her family and their Magical Gathering

was taped Thanksgiving weekend.

"Ack! It got so bad we had to turn it off! It was worse than a Ron Popeil informercial..."

I AGREE what a load of Disney garbage!

Boring boring boring......

My four year old daughter watched it for about five minutes and walked away. I lasted a bit longer until my wife and I look at each other and said, "This may be the WORST thing I ever saw on TV".

Too bad, they ruined the meaning of Christmas AND Disney... great job guys!!

Because of the comments made by the astute people here i always tape the parade and wathc it later so i can fast forward the commericals i dont want to see and the lousy performers like clay aiken!!!!

Friends of ours from England went out to the MK two Saturdays before XMAS thinking it would be real quiet. Were they wrong. The actual parade took over 2 hours to film as their were takes and retakes, fliming of families extending greetings and a host of small delays. Mostly due to timing and camera angles. They claimed the park was so packed that security pleaded with people to calm down along Main Street. Apparently those fists were flying in some cases and ruining the filming of " all that holiday joy "....

By 2 Pm they had enough and struggled through to a point in Fastasy landwhere security helped them get through the back of several shops to the main gate and Guest Services. GS gave them 4 return tickets. The friends said couldn't handle that type of crowd and had no plans to return over these particular holidays.

All looks calm and XMAS like on television.

I'm a former parade performer at Magic Kingdom and I sure do miss the days of the parade really truly being "Live." It was filmed live several years ago, if you where one of the lucky ones to perform in the first half of the parde you could do your dance down Main Street and once you came off the parade route you could run down stairs to the main street breakroom and watch your friends on TV doing the rest of the parade. It was a nice bonding experiance with my fellow cast members. Those where the days.
