My boss informed me that he wants me to attend a conference next week in Disney!!! :Pinkbounc  :rotfl:  :Pinkbounc

It was all I could do to keep from jumping up and down and hugging him and giggling like a little kid. But, I kept my composure and said that I would go if he thought it was necessary! Then when I got back to my office I closed the door like a professional and then jumped up and down :woohoo: and did a little dance as I whispered, "I'm going to Disney World!!!"

The kids can't miss school so this leaves DH to stay at home to take care of them and that means that I am going all by myself!

I will have to attend the conference on Monday thru Thursday of next week but we will get out from noon to 5:00pm depending on the day of the week. I will have half a day on Sunday as well. I'm staying on property and will be able to use the EMH. I also have an AP so, it's not a big deal if I only get to go for a couple of hours on some days.

I have actually fantasized about going to Disney World by myself from the age of 12. I am so excited that I am just about to bust! I can't wait! DH loves Disney as much as I do and I really have to tone it down at home to keep from making it too painful for him to have to stay home.

Of course, the kids can't get too upset, we have been 3 times in the last 7 months so they aren't exactly deprived kids!

Anyone else fantasize about going to Disney without the kids? If so, what would be your top 3 things to do by your self in Disney?

My DW and I recently celebrated our 25th anniversary at WDW... without kids. DW has said on multiple occassions that she enjoyed WDW more than any other time that we've gone. I love my wife and kids, but I would not be able to contain my joy if my boss told me that I had to go to WDW by myself.

My wife LOVED Soarin, but based on the number of times that you've been at WDW recently you've probably already experienced it. I would take in some of the tours. IE: Keys to the Kingdom, Segway Tour in Epcot.

Well, I am going to WDW with my mom next week without my kids (I am feeling alittle guilty! :guilty: )

The first thing that I can think of is that we will be able to go at a slower pace--no commando touring this time! No rushing from ride to ride.

Second, we will be able to see alot of shows and parades (my kids are older now and it's really hard to get them to sit and enjoy the shows or parades)

And third, I think we will be able to eat in alot of restaurants that don't have to have hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken nuggets on the menu! :teeth:

I'm really looking forward to my trip with my mom--but I will miss my kids! ;)

So, I'm sitting here thinking about this while DH watches the Superbowl.

The first one that comes to mind for me is:

To buy a Dole Whip Float and not have to share any of it!!!

If I was ever to go alone........ ahhhhh... what a fantasy!

I would...
1. Tour the entire World Showcase... for a whole day! I would go in each country, see the films, explore the shops, eat the food etc. I have always wanted to do this, but the kids are usually to bored etc... so we always seem to fly through it.
2. Do the Keys to the Kingdom tour again... or similar behind the scenes tour.
and lastly.. I would
3. BREATHE! Take it all in..... listen to the music, check out the architecture, look for details in the design ... and take in the "little things".
Enjoy it, I am jealous!

Oh Wow, that is so cool!!! I can just see the grin on your face now as your trying to hide your planning from DH and the kids!!! :)

My top 3:
1) Do World Showcase without stopping at any KidCot stations and really being able to take my time in the shops and see the entertainment.

2) JellyRolls, the dueling piano bar on the Boardwalk. It's a fun night out.

3) DTD shopping at the stores I want to see!!! :)

Have fun and enjoy your working conference!!!! :teeth:

#1- Do a Segway Tour! *see pic below

#2- Dine at a fancy restaurant.

#3- Pleasure Island.

What a fun idea just to think about! I think if I was going alone that I actually would not plan. (I'm a sincere commando tourist so this would be a big departure).

I'd chat up the cast members - especially the World Showcase folks who must have great information and inside personal facts about their countries.

I'd hug characters without worrying about photos or autographs...just for the joy of it.

I'd try to find folks to give magic to!

Have a ball!

You need to get a massage and have tea at the GF!

I like the idea seeing the characters with no autographs! Maybe I will go to the rope drop to Mickey's Toon Town Fair one day!

Keep those suggestions coming, I know there must be some more great ones that I haven't thought about!

Just wanted to say hello to fellow penn-stater mickey0216! I'm an alum from 1997, what an Orange Bowl, eh?--alrighty then, wow--a solo trip is such an interesting perspective. My DH attends a conference every spring and I have tagged along almost every year. I spend the whole week in the parks (must mention we are tot-less at the present time) while poor hubby is in his conference (but we meet up afterwards). It's hard to pick a top three, but I really enjoy grabbing a snack along with a cool drink while searching for a rocking chair to kick back and relax on. It's so neat to watch the action. My DH and I tend to do the commando thing when we visit--just can't help it, so it is nice to not have a particular schedule--except to have fun and enjoy whatever, whenever!

Didn't have to think too long about this!

1. Spend a whole night in the Adventurer's Club at PI.

2. Do a night at Jellyrolls until closing.

3. Do the 'Drink Around the World' in World Showcase in one day.

My wife and adult kids enjoy these things but they wouldn't stay in the AC or Jellyrolls all evening and my better half couldn't do the DATW in one streach, we spread that out over 2 days.

This is a great post!! My sister and I are going to Disneyworld the first week of May by ourselves and I am keeping it a secret from my daughter. I feel guilty doing this but she can't miss any more school either. Here are our top 3 things:

Segway Tour in Epcot
Half day at Grand Floridian Spa
Spending several days relaxing by the pool

So funny! I am going to Orlando for a conference next week, and I have all day Sunday, Monday and most of Tuesday for myself! I am so glad you posted this, as reading the replies reminded me of the Tours! Probably too late, but I will call and see if I can get into any of them tonite! That is great for a solo traveler (I think, as I have always done WDW with my wife and/or my kids). Have fun! :)

I'm not telling DS2, he wouldn't understand why he couldn't go. But for DD10 and DH, I'm taking a shopping list of all of the things that they want me to bring back for them!

If your daughter is young enough to slip it by her then I wouldn't worry but, if she is old enough to understand if someone accidentally says something in front of her... You might be better off to tell the truth and bribe her heavily to keep her from being mad at you!!! It might be worse on her if she finds out after the fact or from someone else. But, of course, I don't know what your situation is and keeping it from her may be the best option (like me with DS!!!).

I love the Segway idea that several have mentioned, I may have to look into doing that!!

Funny, I wonder if it is the same conference?? I actually signed up for extra workshops that are on Monday!

If you look at doing the tours make sure you check to see if you qualify for any discounts. AAA, APs, and DVC all have discounts. If you are not a AAA member it might be worth it to go ahead and sign up.

Last time I was there I saw that there is a AAA lounge in Magic Kingdom (near Space Mountain). I asked someone about it and they said that it is air conditioned and they provide free refreshments!!! That alone is worth the membership fee!! I plan on checking it out next week!

While I can't wait to get a beer in Germany, I doubt that I could make it even a third of the way around DATW before Security would be escorting me out of the park and revoking my AP. Not that I would get wild but, I would be near dead and very sick!!! Maybe I will have to plan to go to Epcot each night to sample the drinks around the world (one at a time). Other than the German beer, what do you recommend?

I'm wth them. Jellyrolls is fun with a group or by yourself!

If you're going without young kids 3 things you have to do is:

1.) Enjoy nightlife! One of my favorite things to do in Disney with my adult friends and my DH is go to JELLYROLLS!

2.) Take advantage of the not-so-kid-friendly attractions like Rock n Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror

3.) Stroll and spend alot of time in the World Showcase. Since this probably bores the bejesus out of little kids, you should do it with a friend or a significant other. I don't have children so the past few times I went were either with my twin sister or my DH and all times we found strolling the WS one of our favorite things to do. You stop and get a different drink from each country and enjoy it while browsing the shops and the culture.

Oh yeah, and one more thing (if I may) to do without kids- Take advantage of the Value seasons when kids are in school and the parks aren't as crowded!

:tink:

Can I have your boss? Please?

That's one of those "did I really hear you correctly?" moments.

I second the shopping, tour, and spa suggestions. I had a great time at SAB alone while DH was at a conference. Go figure.

Again, can I have your boss?
