Disney World without kids?

Thanks everyone for the great advice. We're definately going to do it soon!! We've decided not to bring up Disney World to the kids - let them approach us if they decide they need a Disney Fix!!

Everyone's reports of kidless trips are getting me psyched! My DH and I are planning our first alone trip for a week in August. It will be our 10th trip but the first time alone. It's for our 20th anniversary so I'm hoping for a relaxing romantic week. We'll be staying at the Boardwalk so I'm planning on a lot of time in Epcot. I'm also planning on at least the Keys to the Kingdom Tour and maybe one other.

I bought the Birnbaum WDW without Kid's book. I've read the Birnbaum books before and it really didn't have anything I didn't already know about from these boards, but I knew it would get me excited to do my planning. Well, I picked it up from the coffee table one day and my joker 16 year old DS had used a Sharpie pen to cross off the "without kids" and write "sans BJ". It cracked me up. He's actually a big a Disney nut as me and DH but he's ok with us going without him. He just go back from a 9 day trip where he went with a family to help with their 3 small children. We also have a trip booked with him in February and we think we'll be going again in December.

We had originally planned the February/December combination to buy AP's to save money since we are new DVC members. Then when DH and I started talking about our 20th anniversary I of course said "You know we'll have AP's....". Some smart person on the DVC board had warned me I'd do that.

We don't have children, but WDW has always been our "happy place." We absolutely love it, and are happy to be heading there over the New Year holiday. We've been to WDW with family and children, and it's a whole different experience. When the two of you take the trip as a couple, you'll be surprised at how "free" your time is.

My sister (single, no kids) has made 2 trips to WDW by herself. The first one was just after 9/11. We couldn't get to the mainland to meet her, so she decided to go it alone. After that trip, she realized it was easy to be there on your own because she felt safe being a single at WDW, and went again earlier this year. She had no trouble finding people to chat with, etc.

I hope you have a terrific time. When you're there, take a look around. I think you'll be surprised at the number of childless couples you'll see.
