Can you get credit for the airfare so you can at least use that at another time?
You are in a tough situation. Put yourself in your son's place. Would you have wanted your wife to choose her family over you?
It's unfortunate that she and the GF are in a battle of who is going to win the trip battle. Your wife is the more mature (I guess) and should bow out gracefully-if she does, maybe the trip situation will change. After all,if it is a battle of wills, then the GF will see it as her victory and may turn into a gracious winner-but probably not.I promise your son will choose his girlfriend. He's young,he's male, and one thing is predominate in his mind and unfortunately, this need is being met by a willful, and apparently not very nice girl.
I have 2 sons and the younger was in a similar type of relationship. Thank God,she never got pregnant.
* I'm editing this to say do not turn yourself into a pretzel trying to make this work. If she's the type of person it sounds like she is,you will spend your life as a miserable pretzel because nothing you or your wife can do will ever be enough.
