In a couple of years, your kids could sleep next to Nemo, Simba, or Ariel when you visit Walt Disney World.

Disney today announced plans for its new Art of Animation resort featuring almost 2,000 themed rooms based on Finding Nemo, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Cars.

The resort will be built next to the Pop Century Resort on the southeast side of the Disney property.

Disney says the building will feature "larger-than-life" icons from the films in its courtyards along with themed exteriors and interiors.

The Art of Animation Resort is expected to be ready by the end of 2012, and the company estimates it will create more than 800 constructions jobs right away.

It will use the two empty buildings that had originally been planned for a Pop Century expansion. The buildings were abandoned in 2001 when business declined.

The new resort will be the same size as Pop Century, but will offer 1,120 suites that will hold six guests and 864 regular rooms. Suites have proven to be a popular choice by families, who often request the suites at the All Star Music Resort. The buildings will be themed around four of Disney's most popular animated movies - The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Cars, and Finding Nemo.

Each of the four wings will have a courtyard that is designed to look like scenes from the movies. "The hope is you walk into this courtyard and you're kind of like seeing it as a character in the movie," said Frank Paris, a senior project manager with Walt Disney Imagineering.

Wow!! This is so exciting!!! Although it will not be open when we are planning on going in Spring 2011, it sounds awesome. I can't wait to hear reviews on it, maybe we can stay there next time!

It's about time. Been hearing this rumor for years. Stayed at the POP one year and absolutely loved it. Our family is a little bigger now, so it'll be nice to stay at the suites in the future. Also, gotta love the ICEE refill machines in the food court (the only ones on Disney property, I think)

I will kinda miss the creepy factor of those half finished buildings. There's a youtube video off someone exploring them - check it out, it's kinda cool.

The icee machines were removed last year. Probably because they broke down more often than they worked.

Say it ain't so. Is there something new in there place? Maybe they're just out being repaired. I guess this is just another example how little by little Disney finds ways to give us less and less. I loved the fact that I was on vacation and could have an ICEE for breakfast if I wanted. That's what vacations are all about, throwing caution to the wind and doing things you normally wouldn't do. Disney, if you're listening, "BRING BACK MY ICEE MACHINES!!"

Nope sorry nothing was put in its place. They just removed the icee machines. You can no longer get apple juice from the fountain either.
