I personally pick Disneyland just purely from a park quality aspect. As far as WDW it is better for a longer vacation, more to do. But from a park and resort perspective, DL Hotel and the parks reign supreme!

I think the better question is "Do you prefer the Magic Kingdom, or Disneyland?" I prefer Disneyland, hands down! However I love the rest of WDW.

I've only been to Disneyand... :D So Disneyland it is for me.

After visiting both, I like them about the same.

I agree. It's hard to compare all of WDW with DL.

For the OP's question, I vote for WDW.

Between the MK and DL, I would vote for the MK. But I really like, and am very fond of, DL as well.

I'm with ChrisnSteph and debloco on this one: it's not fair comparing apples and oranges. With one, it's Disneyland and California Adventure, with the other it's the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM, Disney-MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, the water parks and Downtown Disney. (And throw in a few golf courses while you're at it.)

At the most you can compare Anaheim's Disneyland with the Magic Kingdom in Orlando. Although I have a strong attachment to Disneyland - having been a visitor just about since it opened way back when - I prefer the Magic Kingdom, simply because it comes packaged with all the other alternatives.

Since WDW is easier and cheaper for us to get to and since we own DVC there we spend most of our time there and love it.

However I also love the charm of Disneyland and that fact that it is the original.

There are definately things that are done better out in Disneyland, but there are also things that WDW has and offers that Disneyland doesn't.
We were lucky in 2005 to be able to do both.

I like both so I can't vote. I am glad I live near WDW since there is more to do but we go to DL every summer and enjoy that also.

So true!! I did vote for WDW because of the whole "World", but Magic Kingdom vs. Disneyland... Disneyland wins by far!

I've only been to WDW so I guess that's my vote :)

Been to both... went to both as a child and as an adult. WDW wins for me hands down. I don't see the charm in DL that many do... I actually wind up seeing why it was a bit of a disappointment to Walt Disney. I feel like I am in a whole new world at WDW and at DL, I am not as "taken away" there. I also feel far more cramped at DL (even compared to just MK). Both are nice though, and I'd probably go back to DL again some day, but for now it's WDW for me!

I've never been to Disneyland, but have been to WDW multiple times.

I'd like to go to Disneyland one day though. :)

I like them both.
They make for different kinds of vacations.
If I had to pick one, it would be DL.....but that is a sentimental favorite.
And I agree you can't compare DL with WDW.....DL with MK..... and then DL wins hands down.
But we love Epcot too ::yes::

OK, I've seen this mentioned a few times here. Disneyland was NOT a disappointment to Walt! The outside development - all the seedy non-Disney establishments that sprung up around the park - choked the magic illusion and threatened the artistic and commercial essence of the park. The park also had the disadvantage of land constraints, so he couldn't expand like he wanted to. His mistake was location - not the park itself. Walt also said this:

"I don't believe there is a challenge anywhere in the world that is more important to people everywhere than finding the solution to the problems of our cities. But where do we begin? Well, we're convinced we must start with the public need. And the need is not just for curing the old ills of old cities. We think the need is for starting from scratch on virgin land and building a community that will become a prototype for the future."

As Walt's empire grew bigger, so did his ideas and concepts. And so WDW was born. As for DL, it will always have my heart! I still feel all warm and fuzzy everytime I walk by Walt's apartment on Main Street, or visit the Golden Horseshoe where Walt and Lillian celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Nostalgia is the charm of Disneyland!

Having been been to both twice in recent years (DL 02 & 05, WDW 03 & 04) we prefer WDW by a mile. Better food, better hotels, better theming.

DL has a few attractions that are better (Indy, HM, PotC, JC) but WDW's versions are still great. California has better weather IMO too, but that is going to be totally based on what the person is used to as the weather norm.

Definitely DW. DH and I were at DL for the first time this past October. And while we enjoyed our visit there, it sure wasn't the world.
